Currently, response times to these situations can surpass an hour, leading to substantial delays and inconvenience for motorists. The Mumbai-Pune Expressway, a vital transportation artery, experiences an average daily traffic volume of up to 40,000 vehicles, surging to 60,000 on weekends. To effectively monitor and manage this substantial traffic flow, the ITMS will deploy more than 200 AI-enabled CCTV cameras mounted on gantries strategically positioned along the 95-kilometer stretch of the Expressway. These sophisticated cameras possess the capability to detect up to 17 different types of traffic violations, ensuring comprehensive surveillance and enforcement. The implementation of the AI-powered ITMS on the Pune Expressway comes in the wake of a tragic accident earlier this week, where at least five individuals lost their lives, and 42 others sustained injuries when a bus carrying pilgrims collided with a tractor.
