Tech giant Apple has taken a massive dive into the world of artificial intelligence (AI) with the launch of its next-generation iPhone - the iPhone 16 series. The newest iPhones will come equipped with what Apple calls 'Apple Intelligence'. According to Apple CEO, the iPhone 16 "has been designed for Apple Intelligence from the ground up." CREDIT: APPLE First revealed at WWDC, Apple Intelligence is a large language model (LLM) that can improve existing apps and features on iPhones. According to Apple, Apple Intelligence marks a new era for its personal assistant, Siri, which will now be able to understand requests that are less than eloquently delivered, walk users through specific tasks within the iPhone, and gain on-screen awareness of actions taking place on the phone. iPhone 16 is getting Apple Intelligence -- and it's free
Apple Intelligence is now coming to the iPhone 16 series -- and it's free. There was some debate about whether Apple's new suite of AI tools would cost a subscription fee. Is Apple Intelligence Coming to iPhone 14? Answered
The much-awaited iPhone 16 series is here, and it boasts a bunch of new Apple Intelligence features that you will be able to use pretty soon. So, if you can't make up your mind whether to upgrade or to stick with your old and trusty iPhone 14, hoping these AI-powered features will come to your device as well, then I have some news for you. We answer whether the iPhone 14 models will get the Apple Intelligence features or not in this guide. The answer is no. None of the iPhone 14 models will get Apple Intelligence features. This includes the base iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Don't be disheartened by this news as Apple is restricting its AI features to select models. Even on the iPhone 15 series, only the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max models get Apple Intelligence due to the most latest A-series chip. The reason for this omission is the lesser amount of RAM and older A-series chipset in the entire iPhone 14 lineup. Apple Intelligence requires more RAM to perform the computational tasks, which take place on the device. These are resource-intensive operations, so at least a minimum of 8 GB RAM is required to run the AI tasks hand-in-hand with other processes on your iPhone without compromising on the overall experience. As mentioned above, Apple Intelligence requires a minimum of 8 GB of RAM, so it will only arrive on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max models with the iOS 18 update. Along with these two models, all the new iPhone 16 models that have just launched will support these AI features, including the new Siri, Writing tools, Notification summary, and more. If you want to check which other iPhone models support Apple Intelligence, then check out the complete list here. Apple Intelligence is a massive upgrade but not to the extent that it will make your current iPhone redundant. There's still a lot to look into with iOS 18, such as new home screen customizations, app lock, and control center changes. And if you are still unsure, check out my colleague Kanika's write-up, where she discusses whether Apple Intelligence is reason enough to upgrade from your current iPhone. What do you think about Apple Intelligence, and will you upgrade to iPhone 16 for it? Let us know in the comments section below.

iPhone 16 series to help Apple touch record 8% share in 2024 in India, say market trackers
Apple has unveiled the iPhone 16 series at its Glowtime event, featuring Apple Intelligence for enhanced AI capabilities. The new models are expected to attract users upgrading from older versions. Despite unchanged prices, the launch is seen as crucial for Apple's market share in India, particularly in the premium segment. The iPhone 16 models will invoke a lot of interest from upgrading consumers from previous models, driven by Apple Intelligence although a lack of pent-up demand for generative AI features among consumers may keep Apple from enjoying a super cycle of upgrades globally, according to market trackers. The iPhone 16 series was unveiled at Apple's Glowtime event on Monday night. All four models are built from the ground up for Apple Intelligence, chief executive Tim Cook said at the launch. "iPhone 16 models will certainly invoke a lot of interest from upgrading consumers from 12,13,14 model users with its Apple Intelligence now finally available on iphones. Apple Intelligence now also gives iphones a much needed feature to match AI in Samsung Galaxy line-up," said Navkendar Singh, associate vice president, IDC India. Apple Intelligence on the iPhone 16 lineup harnesses the power of Apple silicon and Apple-built generative models to understand and create language and images, take action across apps, and draw from personal context to simplify and accelerate everyday tasks, the company said. IDC expects Apple to ship around 12.5-13 million iPhones in India in 2024, possibly helping Apple reach over 8% volume market share in India, with almost three times the market average selling prices (ASP). The launch may also help cement its position in the premium end of the market, Singh said. The iPhone 16 series launched in India with their prices unchanged from the previous version. The base iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models start at Rs 79,900 and Rs 89,900 in India respectively, while the iPhone 16 Pro and the Pro Max start at Rs 1,19,900 and Rs 1,49,900 respectively. Singh, though, said that older iPhone models -- the iPhone 14 and 15 -- do very well with price drops and affordability offers in the coming months of the festive season. "The iPhone 16 is coming at a very important time for Apple especially when Apple showcased its foray into GenAI, creating a positive initial excitement. The launch is also critical against the backdrop of lengthening iPhone holding periods," said senior analyst, Varun Mishra, Counterpoint Research. The research firm, though, does not expect the AI features to trigger a super cycle of upgrades in the near term, as in the current state, the use cases offered by Apple may not be so compelling as to get a large section of users to upgrade their devices earlier than expected. "The launch of Apple Intelligence in terms of both features and regions is also expected to be staggered hence its full impact is likely to be seen over time," Mishra said, adding that the company's AI features will drive an iPhone revenue step cycle rather than a single upgrade drive. IDC's Singh believes that Apple's unmatched storytelling ability will help drive the GenAI message home with the consumers. "Gen AI has been here for a while, but consumers are still largely unclear about its potential and real life changing use cases. Apple can possibly help integrate Gen AI tech in a new user experience and bring a consumer focussed story," Singh said.
