AI-Focused Apple Music Reboot Said to Be in the Works
Apple is working on an Apple Music reboot focused around AI, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The reporter made the comments during a Discord chat over the weekend. Gurman didn't eleborate, except to say that Apple has no release ETA for the reboot, suggesting Apple won't mention it at WWDC this week. Turning to rivals like Spotify for inspiration, AI features could potentially include AI-produced playlists or an "AI DJ," but that's just speculation. What it is expected to be previewed for the Apple Music app this week is support for full screen animated art on the Lock Screen. The current Now Playing view tints the Lock Screen based on album art, but in iOS 26, album art could be even larger. For all the other things we're expecting from iOS 26 and Apple's other software platforms, check out our comprehensive WWDC preview guide.

AI-powered Apple Music renovation will probably generate playlists for you | AppleInsider
Future updates to Apple Music are said to feature artificial intelligence, with the service likely to get AI-generated playlists down the road. Apple is in the midst of an artificial intelligence push, with Apple Intelligence features slowly rolling out to users since its introduction one year ago. However, a reporter claims that a well-used Apple app will get AI changes at some point in the future. Speaking on Discord, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg participated in a live "Stage" talk on Sunday, the night before WWDC. As part of the conversation, he was asked questions about upcoming features, including if AI was to be introduced to Apple Music at some point. Gurman responded that it would, but stopped short of saying what exactly would change. A reworking of Apple Music is planned, but Gurman said there wasn't any set schedule for its release. This latter phrasing indicates he doubts Apple Music's changes will be brought up during WWDC. Gurman's answer is fairly obvious, as Apple is keen to bring AI to all of its creations, like the rest of the tech industry. AI will arrive in Apple Music, but it has yet to be determined how it will do so. The most obvious possibility is in using AI to recommend songs to users. Apple already has an algorithmic system for this, but AI could shake up what is offered. It is also plausible that AI could be used to build playlists for users based on themes and topics. Doing so could replace the existing human teams that compile recommendations into playlists. This would follow in the footsteps of main rival Spotify, which already uses AI to generate playlists for users.

The AI-powered renovation of Apple Music is expected to introduce several new features, although the specifics are yet to be confirmed. Some possibilities include:
AI-Generated Playlists: Following in the footsteps of competitors like Spotify, Apple Music might leverage AI to create personalized playlists based on user preferences, listening history, and even themes or topics 2.
AI DJ: An AI-powered DJ feature could potentially curate and present music in a more engaging and interactive manner 1.
Enhanced Recommendations: The existing algorithmic system for song recommendations could be significantly improved with AI, offering more accurate and diverse suggestions to users 2.
Despite the excitement surrounding these potential AI enhancements, Apple has not provided a specific release date for the Apple Music reboot. Gurman suggests that the company has no set ETA for the update, indicating that it's unlikely to be announced at this year's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 1.
While the AI-powered overhaul may not be imminent, Apple Music users can expect some visual enhancements in the near future. The upcoming iOS 26 update is set to introduce support for full-screen animated art on the Lock Screen, expanding on the current Now Playing view that tints the Lock Screen based on album art 1.
