Apple may release a 'mostly glass, curved iPhone' in 2027
Wes Davis is a weekend editor who covers the latest in tech and entertainment. He has written news, reviews, and more as a tech journalist since 2020. This morning, while summarizing an Apple "product blitz" he expects for 2027, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman writes in his Power On newsletter that Apple is planning a "mostly glass, curved iPhone" with no display cutouts for that year, which happens to be the iPhone's 20th anniversary. That follows a report last weekend from The Information, which said that "at least one 2027 iPhone model that will place the front-facing camera underneath the screen to enable a truly edge-to-edge display." Late last year, a report from The Elec said Apple is working with its display partners to create a bezel-less iPhone, but not one that curves the display down the side of the phone -- a trick companies like Samsung and Vivo have employed in the past. But the "mostly glass, curved" part of Gurman's prediction is more interesting to me, because what the heck does that mean? After all, I'd describe the iPhone 15 Pro sitting on my desk right now as "mostly glass," with the only exterior metal being around the camera lenses and in its titanium edge, which the front and back curve down to. Assuming he's not describing a banana-shaped iPhone, the closest hints are probably in Apple patents revealed over the years, like one from 2019 that describes a phone encased in glass that "forms a continuous loop" around the device. Apart from a changing iPhone, Gurman describes what sounds like a big year for Apple. He reiterates past reports that the first foldable iPhone should be out by 2027, and that the company's first smart glasses competitor to Meta Ray-Bans will be along that year. So will those rumored camera-equipped AirPods and Apple Watches, he says. Gurman also suggests that Apple's home robot -- a tabletop robot that features "an AI assistant with its own personality" -- will come in 2027. On that "personality" mention, it's hard not to think about the adorable robotic lamp Apple's internal researchers have been tinkering with. Finally, Gurman writes that by 2027 Apple could finally ship an LLM-powered Siri and may have created new chips for its server-side AI processing. A December report from The Information covered such a development and suggested that the team handling Apple's new AI chips is the same Israel-based silicon design group that was "instrumental in designing" the Apple silicon chips that let the company ditch Intel chips for its Macs in 2020.

Apple reportedly has a 'product renaissance' planned for 2027, here's what's coming - 9to5Mac
Apple has a number of exciting products in the pipeline for 2027, per Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Despite recent Apple releases feeling somewhat stagnant, Apple has a plan to freshen things up. Gurman describes this product road map as a "product renaissance," and it's set to take place around two years from now. First things first, this 'product renaissance' will start off with a big one: Apple's first foldable iPhone. This product is set to launch at the tail end of 2026, alongside the iPhone 18 lineup. It'll have a number of unique features to set it apart from the rest of the foldable phone industry, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 6, though Apple's foldable will be priced at a premium. Apple plans to go all out with this phone, including a crease-free display and a durable titanium frame. You can learn more about the foldable iPhone in our latest roundup. After the foldable, Apple is going to launch a new 20th anniversary iPhone. We don't know a ton about this model, though we do know it's set to be a relatively massive redesign. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman describes the phone as "a mostly glass, curved iPhone - without any cutouts in the display." Apple is also planning a plethora of new hardware product categories that utilize some of its Apple Intelligence developments. First things first, the company aims to a ship a product to compete with Meta's Ray-Ban glasses by 2027. Apple is working on all-new silicon to set this product up to succeed. The glasses will have cameras, speakers, and microphones, allowing it to be aware of your environment. Features like iPhone's Visual Intelligence will come into play here, per Gurman. On the subject of AI, Apple is also planning new AirPods models and Apple Watch models with cameras, allowing the company to push Visual Intelligence tech into more places. By 2027, Siri should finally live up to all of the AI hype, according to Gurman. There'll be two key developments that make that possible: new Apple Silicon-based AI server chips, and a freshly-rewritten Siri that uses LLMs as its basis. Siri's conversational user interface will also arrive in iOS 20, after reportedly being delayed from the initial launch of iOS 19. Last but not least, Apple has been working on developing all-new robotics products. Those will finally take the stage by 2027, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. This product relies on the launch of the much smaller Apple smart home hub, which was supposed to take place this year but has faced numerous delays. Gurman describes the first robotics product as a "tabletop machine with a robotic arm", and says it'll feature an "AI assistant with its own personality." After 2027, Apple aims to ship a new product category that crosses "a foldable iPad with a touch-screen Mac", though Gurman notes that's a 2028 thing at the earliest. And, as always, timelines for all of these products can change. Gurman describes the timing as "fluid." What do you think of Apple's product revamp set to take place in 2027? Let us know in the comments.

I'm saving for Apple's game-changing 2027 products and you should, too
Table of Contents Table of Contents A foldable iPhone cometh A special anniversary iPhone Apple smart glasses, at last Cameras for your ears, and wrists Apple makes terrific hardware, and serves an astoundingly refined software to go with it. The company, unfortunately, also follows a strategy where it repeats the same fundamental design and innovation stack for years. In a nutshell, you get to see a remarkably new hardware from Apple once or twice in a decade. The year 2027 is shaping up to be one such year, and it seems buyers will be spoiled for choice with the sheer diversity of upgraded products in two years from now. Recommended Videos Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has just given an outlook of Apple's 2027 roadmap, and it looks like a massive revision is on the horizon. As a customer, I am inclined to skip the intermittent product releases and will save up until the 2027 lineup is here and dent my wallet. A foldable iPhone cometh The mythical will get real in 2027, it seems. As per Bloomberg, the foldable iPhone could arrive in 2027, at last, following years of rumors and speculations. Apple missed the foldable train by a healthy few years, but it seems the long wait will be well worth it. Apple has reportedly managed to remove the foldable display crease almost entirely on its upcoming phone. The vertical crease is one of the long-standing hardware challenges that is yet to be fully addressed. Oppo's Find N5 got the closest to offering a crease-less display, but hasn't fully eliminated the vertical ridge. If Apple has indeed managed to solve the crease problem, the foldable iPhone will herald a new era for the entire category. Rumors also suggest that Samsung has snagged the display orders from Apple and created an in-cell panel that is thinner, brighter, and offers better color reproduction than an average flexible panel. Samsung hasn't served this next-gen flexible panel on its own foldable phones, yet. Apple will reportedly charge north of $2,000 for its next. A thinner display assembly also means Apple will chase the same kind of chassis slimming that it is currently eyeing for the iPhone 17 Air. A special anniversary iPhone The tenth-anniversary iPhone, dubbed the X, was a special one. It was a radical design shift for Apple, and kick-started an aesthetic trend that we continue to see on iPhones to date. The 20th anniversary iPhone, set to arrive in 2027, could stir a similar change. In the latest edition of his PowerOn newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman writes that for 2017. Apple is planning "a mostly glass, curved iPhone -- without any cutouts in the display." Other reports suggest that this particular model will embrace an edge-to-edge, all-screen design without any cutouts on the front. The front camera and Face ID module will reportedly move beneath the display panel. Now, Apple won't be the first to use under-display camera modules. From Samsung to niche Chinese brands such as Nubia, a healthy few brands have experimented with the idea. The biggest problem, so far, has been the sub-par quality as the camera sensor is fed light data passing through a layer of spaced-out pixels. In addition to an all-glass look, we also came across reports that Apple was considering a port-less iPhone that would skip on other physical inlets, such as a SIM slot, too. It could also employ one of Apple's in-house network modems. Overall, the 20th anniversary iPhone looks primed to emerge as the next big shift for Apple. Apple smart glasses, at last Apple's smart glasses project has been a bit of an enigma so far. But it seems the company has finally set the course. According to Bloomberg, Apple's immediate goal is to tackle the dominance of Meta with a pair of smart glasses armed with cameras, but no internal display unit. These glasses will reportedly open the doors for Visual Intelligence, a feature that relies on generative AI to make sense of the world around, as seen by the camera. "Apple is currently exploring non-AR glasses that use cameras to scan the surrounding environment and rely on AI to assist users," reports Bloomberg. Google has already rolled out a similar capability called Gemini Live (with Project Astra), and Meta is on course with a similar upgrade with its hit smart glasses made in collaboration with Ray-Ban. Apple's next major milestone would be true AR glasses, though they are still a bit further into the future. In that time frame, Apple is also rumored to introduce a more affordable version of the Vision Pro headset that will also be lighter and more comfortable. These will be followed by a full-fledged top-end successor that is said to work in tethered mode, hooked via a wired connection to a Mac for processing duties. Cameras for your ears, and wrists Apple's next big bet with wearable devices is apparently arming them with a camera. Apple is reportedly eyeing smartwatches and wireless earbuds fitted with a camera sensor. Meta, surprisingly, reached the prototyping stage for this idea years ago, but ultimately canned the project. Apple will reportedly put a camera on the mainline Apple Watch as well as the pricier Ultra model. On the former, the camera lens will be positioned as part of the display kit, but on the Ultra variant, the camera sensor will be positioned on the side, closer to the rotating crown. In addition to Visual Intelligence, the camera could also lend a hand with wellness capabilities such as fall detection, assisting with workouts, and communication with emergency responders in case of a mishap. Apple is also eyeing a similar camera upgrade for the AirPods, alongside a real-time translation facility. Once again, cameras on the earbuds should open the doors for better AI-based world analysis chops and enable more health-centric capabilities. We have already seen some pretty useful implementations of AI on headphones. Earlier this month, a team at the University of Washington showcased AI headphones that can translate multiple speakers at the same time. Interestingly, the project was driven by Apple's M2 silicon. So far, it seems as if the year 2027 will mark a true return to form for Apple. In addition to exciting designs and remarkable hardware innovations, the company is also expected to serve a souped-up generative AI stack. A revamped Siri, with more advanced natural language capabilities, could just be the cherry on top.

Apple's 20th iPhone Anniversary May Witness Several New Product Launches
The company plans to unveil smart glasses with built-in cameras Apple is said to have several products in development that may debut just in time for the 20th anniversary of the iPhone. A seasoned journalist claims that the Cupertino-based tech giant will introduce the first-ever foldable iPhone around that time. The product has been in development for years now and it could finally let Apple catch up with competitors like Samsung and Xiaomi in the foldable smartphone space. Further, smart glasses rivalling Meta Ray-Ban Glasses and others are also expected to see the light of day, in addition to several other new devices. In the latest edition of the Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that Apple will mark the two-decade anniversary of the iPhone by introducing its highly anticipated foldable iPhone. It is said to be considered "one of the two major initiatives" the company is planning for the 20th iPhone anniversary and may hit the market by 2027. While much is kept under wraps, the journalist believes that the foldable iPhone could have a "nearly invisible" display crease. It will be followed up by another new product -- a curved iPhone. As per the report, this device is also slated for a 2027 launch and may feature a screen without any cutouts, potentially hinting at an under-display front camera and the Face ID sensor for biometric authentication. The curved iPhone will also commemorate the 10th anniversary of the iPhone X, a landmark product in Apple's history which earmarked the company's transition from a phone with a home button to an all-screen glass-focused handset. As per Gurman, the company could also introduce its first-ever smart glasses. It plans to manufacture a dedicated chip for the said device and it may have a similar operation as the Meta Ray-Ban Glasses. Apple is reported to take advantage of its authority in audio, design, and miniaturisation of components which may aid the development of its smart glasses. Powered by Apple Intelligence -- the company's AI suite -- the smart glasses are tipped to leverage cameras to deliver a Visual Intelligence-like functionality by accumulating details about the surrounding environment. In addition to the foldable iPhone, a curved iPhone, and smart glasses, Apple may also launch new AirPods and Apple Watch models by 2027, equipped with cameras which offer similar functionality as the smart glasses. Another product in line for launch at the iPhone's 20th anniversary is said to be a tabletop device with a robotic arm. Past reports suggest it may essentially be an iPad with AI features that will be attached to a robotic arm. The purported device could have actuators that can tilt the display and even rotate it 360 degrees. While plenty of consumer hardware products are slated to debut, the Cupertino-based tech giant also plans to introduce several other solutions. One of them is touted to be new chips for its AI services for improving the experience. Further, it may also integrate Siri, its voice-based assistant, with large language models (LLMs), in line with the requirements for delivering generative AI capabilities, giving it a more "conversational" user interface. As per Gurman, Apple also has other products in its roadmap, such as a new device offering the functionality of both a foldable iPad and a touch screen Mac, although it isn't likely to arrive until 2028.

Apple Working on a Curved iPhone, But It's Not the Way You Think
The company is also developing smart glasses, AirPods, and Apple Watch with camera and AI features built-in. We are already aware that Apple is planning to release a slim phone in the form of the iPhone 17 Air later this year. Recently, we learned that the company is working on smart glasses with multiple cameras. It now appears that Apple also has plans to make a curved iPhone, among other new products set to come out in the next couple of years. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is working on refreshing its iPhone lineup for the iPhone's 20-year anniversary in 2027. The biggest takeaway from the report is the company's plans to make a "mostly glass, curved iPhone". But it's probably not the way you're thinking of. This curved iPhone won't be anything like curved displays that we see on monitors. That's because Apple's intensions are to make a truly bezel-less device, "without any cutouts". This could mean an iPhone that's entirely wrapped in glass in a way that the display appears seamless. Perhaps, something similar to Samsung's Galaxy S20. Besides a curved iPhone, we might also see the foldable iPhone from Apple by 2027. Gurman adds that Apple's foldable device will feature a titanium frame and a display crease that will be "nearly invisible". Another product that's also in the works are smart glasses. The company is already developing a chip based on Apple Watch processors. These glasses will feature Apple Intelligence and Visual Intelligence to capture your surroundings and respond to relevant queries. The company is also reportedly working on integrating cameras on the AirPods and Apple Watch in a move to push AI to more devices. There's hope that Siri could get the much anticipated AI upgrade. It will potentially rely on LLMs for generative and a "more conversational" experience. This could be made possible with the upcoming development of new AI server chips that will be based on Apple Silicon. Lastly, the potential road map also suggest a tabletop Apple robot could feature a robotic arm and an AI assistant. What do you think about Apple's curved iPhone idea and the upcoming devices? Let us know in the comments.
