Amazon Web Services (AWS) is launching an AI agent marketplace next week and Anthropic is one of its partners, TechCrunch has exclusively learned. The AWS agent marketplace launch will take place at the AWS Summit in New York City on July 15, two people familiar with the development told TechCrunch. AWS and Anthropic did not respond to requests for comments. AI agents are ubiquitous nowadays. And every single investor in Silicon Valley is bullish on startups building them -- even if there is some disagreement on exactly what defines an AI agent. The term is somewhat ambiguous and is loosely used to describe computer programs that can make decisions and perform tasks independently, such as interacting with software, by using an AI model at the backend. AI behemoths such as OpenAI and Anthropic are promoting it as the next big thing in tech. However, the distribution of AI agents poses a challenge, as most companies offer them in silos. AWS appears to be taking a step to address this with its new move. The company's dedicated agent marketplace will allow startups to directly offer their AI agents to AWS customers. The marketplace will also allow enterprise customers to browse, install, and look for AI agents based on their requirements from a single location, a source said. That could give Anthropic -- and other AWS agent marketplace partners -- a considerable boost. Anthropic, which already has Amazon's backing and is reportedly in line for another multibillion-dollar investment from the e-commerce company, views AI's future primarily in terms of agents -- at least for the coming years. Anthropic builds AI agents in-house and enables developers to create them using its API. AWS' marketplace would help Anthropic reach more customers, including those who may already use AI agents from its rivals, such as OpenAI. Anthropic's involvement in the marketplace could also attract more developers to use its API to create more agents, and eventually increase its revenues. The company already hit $3 billion in annualized revenue in late May. Like any other online marketplace, AWS will take a cut of the revenue that startups earn from agent installations. However, this share will be minimal compared to the marketplace's potential to unlock new revenue streams and attract customers. The marketplace model will allow startups to charge customers for agents. The structure is similar to how a marketplace might price SaaS offerings rather than bundling them into broader services, one of the sources said. Amazon is not the first tech giant to offer a marketplace for agents. In April, Google Cloud introduced an AI Agent Marketplace to help developers and businesses list, buy, and sell AI agents. Microsoft also introduced a similar offering, called Agent Store, within Microsoft 365 Copilot a month later. Similarly, enterprise software providers, including Salesforce and ServiceNow have their own agent marketplaces. That said, we have yet to see how successful these marketplaces are for smaller AI startups and enterprises seeking specific AI agents.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) wants to be the go-to marketplace for businesses looking to buy and implement AI agents. At the annual AWS Summit in New York City on Wednesday, Amazon announced the launch of AI agents and Tools, a new virtual store within AWS Marketplace where enterprise customers can search through agents from Anthropic, IBM, Perplexity, Salesforce, and other vendors. Also: How agentic AI is transforming the very foundations of business strategy Crucially, in addition to offering the agents themselves, the store also offers the various components of digital infrastructure required to deploy the agents safely and effectively, including relevant databases, third-party governance software solutions, IT support for implementation, and deployment options to ensure that the agents mesh with the various systems already running within the company. As part of the launch, AWS has introduced a new feature -- currently available in preview -- called AgentCore designed to facilitate the implementation process for new agents "With this launch, AWS Marketplace becomes a single destination where customers can find everything needed for successful AI agent implementations," Matt Yanchyshyn, vice president of AWS Marketplace and Partner Services, wrote in a blog post. "[This] includes not just agents themselves, but also the critical components that make agents truly valuable." To make it easier for customers to find the right agents and supporting software for their particular needs, AWS has also launched an AI-powered search tool within AI Agents and Tools. Powered by Amazon Bedrock, the search feature allows users to describe the functions that they're looking to automate in natural language prompts, and the system will recommend specific agents and accompanying solutions for implementation and support. Growing pressure The rise of generative AI tools like ChatGPT starting in late 2022 prompted a surge of corporate interest in generative AI, though it quickly became clear that the technology didn't offer any clear, practical applications for the majority of businesses, beyond, say, launching a customer service chatbot or using AI-generated video in ads. That's when tech developers started pushing agents, which are essentially more capable and dynamic chatbots, to enterprise customers. The trend quickly took off, with research firm Gartner recently predicting that as much as half of all business decisions will be at least partially automated by agents by 2027. It isn't exactly clear to what degree individual workers are currently using agents on a day-to-day basis, but their employers do seem to be eagerly onboarding the technology, driven by a wide-scale pressure not to be left behind in this latest technological wave. Report: AWS set to launch agentic AI marketplace with Anthropic next week Amazon Web Services Inc. is set to follow in the footsteps of Microsoft Corp. and Google Cloud and launch a dedicated marketplace for artificial intelligence agents, and its favorite AI developer Anthropic PBC is set to be one of its launch partners, according to a report in TechCrunch. The report, which cites two anonymous sources familiar with AWS's plans, said the company is expected to make an announcement at next week's AWS Summit in New York City, a two-day event that kicks off on July 15. AI agents are the biggest buzzword in the technology industry right now, representing the next step up from generative AI. Although there's no widely accepted definition of the term, AI agents are systems that are designed to work autonomously and proactively, completing tasks on behalf of human users with minimal supervision. They're powered by large language models such as Anthropic's Claude and OpenAI's GPT-4o, and can use logic to make decisions independently, while taking into account the context of the situation they're operating in. Some examples of AI agents include those that operate self-driving cars, using sensors to navigate roads and traffic safely, or call center agents that can communicate with customers and process refunds on their behalf, without needing to involve a human agent. Although AI agents only really became a thing last year, they have generated tremendous excitement, and almost every AI developer is laser-focused on their development. OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman has made it clear on more than one occasion that agentic AI is the next "big thing" for AI, and so has just about every other personality in the industry. That said, most AI companies today sell their AI agents and related services in silos, and that causes a lot of fragmentation, preventing their widespread adoption. By creating a dedicated marketplace through which multiple AI firms can advertise their AI agents, AWS will make it much easier for its customers to browse through what's on offer, find the agents they need, and deploy them in their cloud computing environments. Anthropic and other partners will be able to charge for access to their AI agents. According to one of the sources, AWS intends to operate the marketplace on a software-as-a-service model, giving developers the flexibility to choose from subscription-based or usage-based pricing. Of course, AWS will want a cut of the profits generated by these AI agents, but TechCrunch's source said its fees will be somewhat "minimal" considering the amount of revenue they can potentially unlock. The partnership makes a lot of sense for Anthropic, because AWS is the world's most popular cloud infrastructure platform. It can help the company to put its agentic AI offerings in front of thousands of new customers, including many that currently use its rivals' services. In turn, its exposure there may also tempt more developers to explore its application programming interface, which allows them to create their own AI agents. It's a good move for AWS too, not only because Anthropic's models are considered among the best in the business, but because it also happens to be one of the startup's main investors, having thrown an eye-watering $13.8 billion at it so far. It's likely to invest even more in the company soon - just yesterday, SiliconANGLE reported that Amazon executives were holding further discussions with Anthropic, though no exact numbers were mentioned. AWS is also Anthropic's primary cloud provider, giving it access to hundreds of thousands of graphics processing units to train and run its AI models. Amazon's proposed AI agent marketplace will compete with similar offerings from Google Cloud and Microsoft. In April, Google launched an AI Agent Marketplace for businesses to list, buy and sell AI agents, and one month later Microsoft followed up with the Microsoft 365 Copilot Agent Store. The likes of Salesforce Inc. and ServiceNow Inc. also operate agentic AI marketplaces.

Today's enterprise landscape is no longer about monolithic models. Organizations are shifting toward composable, multi-agent architectures that emphasize productivity, trust and orchestration. "Lyzr is an enterprise agent platform with built-in responsibility guardrails," he explained. "We had a chief marketing officer of a Fortune 500 company reach out and said, 'I have a 10-member marketing team and I would like to just use agents to improve the productivity of my whole team.' Fast forward [to] today, they have 18 marketing agents that's running on Lyzr. What our platform does is to allow organizations to build skills. When more of these organizations build skills, we are able to take those skills to other organizations." This approach demands not just flexibility, but also trust. IBM has responded by integrating tools such as watsonx Orchestrate and API Connect into the agent Marketplace, making it easier for enterprises to discover and deploy reliable agentic solutions. With a flood of new entrants, curation and validation have become essential, Otto explained. "As a customer, they're all overwhelmed," he added. "They're looking at all of these different people reaching out to them with lots of different capabilities and type of filter that we can put onto our customers ... it's all about making it easier for the customer." That customer-first mindset extends to infrastructure and governance. AWS has built the agent Marketplace to support multi-agent networks, which Grusz says offer dramatically higher accuracy than early single-agent designs. This architecture is not just about functionality -- it's about establishing a foundation of security, identity and performance evaluation at scale. "The multi-agent architectures are really becoming the more prevalent way on these things coming together," Grusz said. "That's why we're really excited about the AWS Marketplace launch that we just came out with yesterday for agents and tools." The marketplace will aim to facilitate the distribution of AI agents by allowing startups like Anthropic to offer them directly to AWS customers, and by enabling enterprises to shop for AI agents in a single location, according to the report. Its launch will follow the introduction of other marketplaces for AI agents, such as the Google Cloud Marketplace's AI Agent Marketplace, Microsoft's Agent Store, Salesforce's AgentExchange and the ServiceNow Store, per the report. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said during a May 1 earnings call that AWS already commands a "multibillion-dollar annual revenue run rate" in generative AI services and that it has positioned itself as "the infrastructure for agentic AI." In March, it was reported that AWS formed a new group focused on agentic AI and that AWS CEO Matt Garman said the technology could be "the next multibillion business for AWS." "We have the opportunity to help our customers innovate even faster and unlock more possibilities, and I firmly believe that AI agents are core to this next wave of innovation," Garman said at the time in an internal email, according to a Reuters report. When Microsoft unveiled its Agent Store in May, it said this centralized marketplace would serve both developers and non-technical users and enable these customers to shop for AI agents tailored for specific tasks. The marketplace allows shoppers to browse, install and try agents from Microsoft, its partners and its customers. At launch, it offered more than 70 agents, with the company saying that the number would grow over time. In March, OpenAI launched a new set of application programing interfaces (APIs) and tools designed to help developers and enterprises build, deploy and scale AI agents. The company said these new tools complemented its existing AI model capabilities that can support AI agents by providing an easier way to turn these capabilities into AI agents.

But a July 2025 PYMNTS Intelligence report shows that CFOs worry that AI agents can go "off-script, exposing firms to cascading payment errors, sanctions screening failures and headline-grabbing compliance fines." The result is that enterprises are not "racing to deploy it," the report said. Only 15% of executives surveyed are thinking of deploying AI agents, and most are still in the early evaluation stage. However, companies that have successfully adopted generative AI are more likely to trust in AI agents. AWS said more than 99% of its top 1,000 customers had an active Marketplace subscription in 2024. With the agentic AI launch, users can now also browse AI agents in the AWS Marketplace as well -- along with adjacent tools such as pre-built knowledge bases, third-party guardrails for governance and implementation services. They can also deploy these solutions through various pricing models including pay-as-you-go, subscriptions and custom enterprise pricing. For companies concerned that agentic AI would be more expensive than traditional generative AI, Yanchyshyn said developers are given controls over usage. (Every prompt and response carries a cost, but when agents work behind the scenes with each other to do a task, it's harder for users to assess how much compute is being used.) Many of the AI agents are already integrated into Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, a new suite of tools for building, deploying and securing AI agents at scale. The integration lets users avoid lengthy custom development and get agents into production more quickly. Early partners offering AgentCore-compatible listings include AllCloud, Accenture, Brave and CircleCI. These vendors are expected to help customers accelerate implementations and reduce integration costs. AWS also emphasized the marketplace's benefits for sellers. Vendors can list their AI agents and tools using standardized legal templates, create private offers for enterprise client and offer free trials -- all within the AWS console.
