Broadcom Expands VMware Cloud Foundation Capabilities

Broadcom Inc. has announced significant enhancements to its VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) platform at VMware Explore 2024 Barcelona. These updates aim to address critical business needs in artificial intelligence adoption, national digital sovereignty, and cyber resilience 123.

New Advanced Services for AI and Data Management

A key addition to VCF is the new VMware Tanzu Data Services, designed to streamline deployment and management of critical data services. This Advanced Service will integrate natively with VCF to provide automated lifecycle management for open-source data services such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, RabbitMQ, and Valkey 134.

Krish Prasad, senior vice president and general manager of the VCF Division at Broadcom, stated, "Through a private cloud platform and portfolio of Advanced Services that are ubiquitous, flexible and secure, we are unlocking the promise of AI in the enterprise" 123.

Enhanced Cyber Resilience and Security Features

Broadcom is expanding VCF's cyber resilience capabilities by announcing that VMware Live Recovery will now support Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE) as a target Isolated Recovery Environment for VCF workloads 123. This enhancement builds on existing protection for GCVE sites and provides a consistent, secure experience for protecting VMware workloads both on-premises and in the cloud 4.

Additionally, the vDefend Advanced Service for VCF now offers GenAI-based intelligent assistance to help IT security teams proactively triage sophisticated threat campaigns and recommend remediation options 1.

Support for Digital Sovereignty Initiatives

The VCF platform's flexibility is demonstrated by its adoption for critical national infrastructure projects. Paolo Bazzica, CIO of IPZS (Italian Mint and Printing Institute), highlighted how VCF enabled the creation of a modern Digital Application Platform for Italy's European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet initiative 1234.

Expanded Partnerships and Ecosystem Support

Broadcom is strengthening its partnerships to enhance VCF's capabilities. Mark Lohmeyer, VP & GM of Compute and AI Infrastructure at Google Cloud, emphasized the collaboration between Broadcom and Google Cloud to offer expanded services for cyber and disaster recovery needs 1234.

Private Cloud Modernization and Certification

To support the adoption of VCF, Broadcom has revamped its certification program. The new VMware Certified Professional - VCF Architect track validates expertise in building VCF-based applications with high standards of availability, manageability, performance, recoverability, and security 5.

VeloCloud Portfolio Updates

In a parallel announcement, Broadcom unveiled updates to its VeloCloud portfolio, introducing VeloRAIN (Robust AI Networking) and new high-end edge appliances. These enhancements aim to improve network performance and security, particularly for AI workloads that have different network usage patterns compared to traditional applications 5.

As organizations increasingly adopt AI and face evolving cybersecurity challenges, Broadcom's enhancements to VMware Cloud Foundation position it as a comprehensive private cloud platform capable of supporting diverse enterprise needs across AI development, data sovereignty, and security.
