The makeup options include eyeshadow, lipstick, blush, and eyeliner enhancements, ranging from light pinks and reds to natural oranges and browns. Google said the AI-powered makeup looks remain natural-looking throughout your meeting, even when you move your head around, touch your face, or take a sip from a drink. Google also noted that the makeup looks match your unique facial features, contributing to a seamless appearance. This feature builds on Google Meet's Portrait touch-up functionality, which allows you to gently adjust your appearance with features such as complexion smoothing, under-eye lightening, and eye whitening. Google Meet adds a new trick for when you're not camera-ready

The feature expands on the Touch-up tool with more realistic AI styling. Working remotely has a bunch of perks, until you have a video call to make on short notice and realize you're not presentable. Google Meet just added a new time-saver for just such an occasion: AI-powered makeup. Google announced the update today, expanding on last year's "Touch-up" feature that let you smooth skin or tweak lighting before hopping on camera. The new makeup option takes things a step further, letting you apply touches like virtual foundation and lipstick that stay in place even as you move around or sip your coffee. There are 12 studio-style presets to choose from, ranging from subtle, professional finishes to more creative flourishes. According to Google, the AI-driven system adapts each look to your individual features, aiming to appear natural rather than like a filter. It's available on both the web and mobile versions of Meet. The rollout began on October 8 and is expected to reach all supported accounts within about two weeks. It's available to Workspace Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Starter, Standard, and Plus, Education Plus, Teaching and Learning add-on, Enterprise Essentials, and to paying Google One and Workspace Individual subscribers. The feature is off by default, but you can toggle it on before or during a call. Your chosen look is saved for your next meeting, so if you've been experimenting with bold colors during a casual catch-up, it might be worth switching back before that big budget meeting with the CEO.

New appearance option in Google Meet adds convincing makeup filters

As filters in video call platforms go, Google Meet is taking a more subtle and convenient approach with AI-powered makeup options. Google announced that a new makeup option will be available in the appearance tab in the mobile app and web client. The option will offer 12 styles, ranging from intense and dark to light and minimal. The new feature operates much like a deepfake since it uses Google's AI models to alter the appearance of the user's face - it's just a little less scary. In a demo video, one of Google's Product Managers shows off one style. The impressive part is the filter's seamless appearance. Hovering a coffee mug in front of your face or covering it partially with your hands doesn't seem to phase the modifier. Makeup options appear in the Appearance tab under the existing touch-up options launched in 2023. Since then, Google has extended those options to Google Meet on web. Both web and mobile users can use the portrait lighting options in that tab, which does some heavy, but convincing, lifting. This comes as Google recently added Gemini to Meet for Workspace customers. The feature allows users to get summaries of ongoing discussions and catch up if part of the meeting was missed. The feature uses captions recorded through the Take Notes for Me feature. The new makeup option will similarly be available, though it'll be off by default. Google notes the feature will gradually roll out to Google Workspace and Google One members.
