A new Pixel 9 Pro XL leak has revealed lots of important specs | Digital Trends
We are about three weeks away from Google announcing its new smartphone lineup -- the Google Pixel 9 series. As a result, numerous rumors are circulating about these new handsets. Recently, someone posted photos on the XDA Forums claiming to be of the Pixel 9 Pro XL. According to the leaked photos by user Pourelle, the Pixel 9 Pro XL will have at least 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Until now, no Pixel phone has been shipped with more than 12GB of RAM. Recommended Videos Furthermore, the leak suggests that the Pixel 9 Pro XL will be equipped with a Samsung Exynos 5400 modem, unlike the Exynos 5300 modem found on the Pixel 8 series. Samsung had announced the new modem earlier this year, claiming it could deliver data throughput speeds of 14.79Gbps. The Exynos 5400 is built on the same 4nm process as Google's Tensor G4, which is expected to be featured in the Pixel 9 series. The upcoming Pixel 9 Pro XL will be the first "XL" Pixel phone since the Google Pixel 4 XL launch in 2019. The new handset is expected to have many of the same features as the incoming Pixel 9 Pro but with a larger display. We anticipate a 6.5-inch display compared to the smaller phone's 6.1-inch display. Like the Pixel 9 Pro, the Pixel 9 Pro XL is expected to feature primary, ultrawide, and telephoto cameras -- and perhaps a new camera visor. At a Made by Google event, Google will announce the two phones, along with the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, on Tuesday, August 13. Last week, Google teased the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold on YouTube. Both videos didn't give much away except noting that they will each feature Google Gemini, one of the company's AI tools. A new video tease highlighting the Pixel 9 Pro XL is almost certain set to arrive anytime before August 13.

New Pixel 9 Pro XL leak hints at the specs of the third Pixel 9 model
As well as the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, we think there's going to be a Pro XL model this time around. It could be the most expensive phone of the trio, and photos supposedly showing the handset have been posted to the XDA forums (via 9to5Google). Google has already shown us what the Pixel 9 Pro is going to look like, and it seems that this phone is the same, but bigger, and thanks to information printed on the screen of the device, some of its specs may have been revealed alongside its appearance. The Pixel 9 Pro XL will apparently come with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, at least in one of its configurations. The Samsung Exynos 5400 modem is also listed, which happens to support satellite connectivity - a feature that's rumored to be arriving with Android 15. It's likely that this modem will be fitted inside the other Pixel 9 models too. For comparison, the Google Pixel 8 offers 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. The Pixel 8 Pro, meanwhile, ups the RAM to 12GB, and is available with up to 1TB of storage inside. The Pixel 9 Pro XL, if this leak is accurate, would be the first phone in the Pixel series to come with 16GB of RAM - perhaps to enable some extra AI trickery. It's not clear if the other Pixel 9 phones will be available with 16GB of RAM as well. All four Pixel models due next month - including the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which is the successor to the Google Pixel Fold - have already shown up in regulatory filings, so at this stage there's not all that much left for Google to reveal on August 13. We will of course bring you all the announcements as they arrive, and Google will be livestreaming the event too. We might also see the Google Pixel Watch 3 show up at the same event, which is taking place earlier in the year than normal - the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel Watch 2 were unveiled in October of last year.

Google Pixel 9: how it may differ from Pixel 8 based on what we know so far
In August, Google is expected to announce its lineup of new Pixel 9 phones, starting with the base variant Pixel 9 and ending with an upgraded foldable smartphone. While the company is yet to formally confirm or deny any technical specifications, numerous leaks from multiple sources -- including a Taiwanese regulator, allegedly -- have helped viewers put together a rough picture of what the new Pixel 9 might look like and what features it could offer. In addition to this, a look at the Google Pixel 8 could help users better understand what upgrades might be in store for future phones. With these factors in mind, let's take a look at how the technical specifications, features, and prices for both phones could compare, based on the information that has been reported by leakers and gadget analysts. Based on leaked photos, the Pixel 9 also appears to have flat sides versus the Pixel 8's curved sides, raising questions about its purported similarity to Apple iPhones. The Pixel 9 series will undoubtedly see a hike in price as the phones belong to the premium segment, while the foldable phone will likely come under the ultra premium segment. The Google Pixel 8 comes in the Hazel, Mint, Obsidian, and Rose colours, while leaks for the Google Pixel 9 show a black device, a bright pink device, and a sky blue device so far. Read Comments

Leaked Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro renders show one distinct design change
More claimed renders of the Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro have popped up on X, pretty much cementing the idea that the next Google-designed flagship phones will look similar to their predecessors. Posted by fairly reliable tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore, the Pixel 9 render shows what's purported to be that phone in a pastel pink color, complete with a pill-shaped camera bar; the latter would mark a departure from the sharper rectangular camera bar, though the Pixel design DNA is still apparent. It's much the same deal with the Pixel 9 Pro render, which shows what's claimed to be that handset in a creamy white color, and features three cameras in the bar. Going by previous Pixel Pro phones, this camera array would likely comprise a main sensor, ultra-wide, and a telephoto camera. Aside from that, the renders don't give much away, as all that's shown are the backs of the phones. But there have been plenty of rumors and tips to give us an idea of what to expect from the next pair of Google phones. In short, the main upgrades are likely to be a new Tensor chip to power snappy AI tools and responses to queries; improved cameras - though more on the software side than with new sensors; and the potential for titanium to be adopted into the design in order to make the phones stronger and lighter, for the Pixel 9 Pro if not for the standard Pixel 9. Flatter sides for the phones have also been tipped, but we're not so sure about that one, as such a design is very iPhone-like and tends not to be adopted by the best Android phones. Overall, it looks like Google will be leaning more on the software and AI tools to deliver the upgrades in its next Pixel phones, rather than making big changes on the hardware side. That said, the search giant could still surprise us. A Pixel-themed showcase is set for August 13, so we can expect to see the new phones then, potentially alongside a second-generation Pixel Fold.

Leak Showcases Pixel 9 And Pixel 9 Pro XL In Pink and Porcelain Color, Highlights Protruding Camera, And More
While the Pixel 9 series was majorly unveiled in several leaks before its official release on August 13th, Google decided to pause the glimpses dropped every now and then by showcasing the upcoming Pro model in detail officially before its launch. The company even mentioned Gemini AI being a significant addition to the device in a video released. This did not stop the reports from coming in, and fresh leaked renders of the series give away the design and tease other elements, making their way to the new models. With the Made by Google event 2024 hardly a month away, the tech community is focused on the big release of the Pixel 9 series at the event. Even though no mystery is left about the upcoming models, speculations are not slowing down and leaving less for the imagination. The new renders showcase the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro in Pink and Porcelain colors and some noticeable hardware changes. Google even took it upon itself to reveal the series before its launch by showcasing the Pro model in a video released by the company. Now, a tipster, Sudhanshu Ambhore, posted two images on X, formerly Twitter, that showcase the Pixel 9 and the Pixel 9 Pro XL. The Pixel 9 render displayed the already given out Pink color scheme coming to the model, and the color is interesting, giving the base model a unique look compared to the previous standard color tones. On the other hand, the Pixel 9 Pro XL is shown sporting the Porcelain color, which does justice to the cleaner, more premium look opted for the XL version. The images show the backs of both Pixel devices, which have updated camera modules for the upcoming Pixel lineup. The Pixel 9 is shown with a dual-camera setup, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL sports a triple-camera setup. Previous leaked reports have given the hardware upgrade for the series as well. The Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL would feature a 50MP IMX858 ultrawide, telephoto, and selfie camera. The prominent protruding camera design of the Pixel Pro XL gives it the capacity to house larger sensors for the rear camera that help deliver high-quality images and selfies. The XL model is expected to have 16GB of RAM storage and a new modem, Samsung Exynos Modem 5400, and the upgraded modem might solve the previous connectivity concerns with the Pixel series. The camera upgrades and the fresh colors coming to the series make us excited for the upcoming Pixel 9 lineup and the enhancements it would bring.

Pixel 9 Pro XL leak shows 16GB RAM, 256GB storage, new Samsung modem [Gallery]
Ahead of its launch in less than a month, Google's Pixel 9 series is being unveiled, and a new hands-on leak shows off the Pixel 9 Pro XL with its new Samsung modem as well as a heaping helping of memory. Back in April, we learned two new details about the Pixel 9 Pro series. For one, a hands-on leak showed off the bootloader with the device packing 128GB of storage, but an upgraded 16GB of RAM. Prior to this, no Google Pixel device has offered more than 12GB of memory. Alongside that, reports also claimed the device would be using an updated Samsung modem, the Exynos 5400 which Samsung had unveiled that same month. Now, we're getting further confirmation on both of those. Another hands-on leak posted to XDA forums shows what appears to be an early version of the Pixel 9 Pro XL (as seen by the codename "komodo") which is equipped with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. There's no way to know if this is Google's base model, but it's very interesting that we've now seen both 128GB and 256GB variations. It somewhat implies that Google might be equipping all versions with this much memory. That wouldn't be all that unbelievable, though, as AI continues to be an increasing focus for Google, and on-device AI tends to be very memory-intensive. Beyond that, this leak also directly shows proof that the device is using an Exynos 5400 modem. That's visible under the "baseband" section, with "5400" shown in place of "5300" on the Pixel 8 series, which used the Exynos 5300 modem. The Exynos 5400, as Samsung explains, is based on the latest 3GPP Release 17 standard with maximum data throughput of 14.79Gbps. You'll surely never see those speeds in real life, but something we are expected to see Google use is the 5400's satellite support. The new modem is also based on a 4nm process just like Tensor G4. This same modem is expected to be used across Google's entire Pixel 9 series. Google is set to officially launch the Pixel 9 series on August 13, with the company dropping official images of the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold at the end of this past week.

Leak confirms the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL will get a big RAM and connectivity upgrade
Summary Pixel 9 Pro XL hands-on images have leaked, confirming it will ship with 16GB of RAM and a new Exynos modem. The 16GB RAM could help the phone to run Gemini and other AI tasks locally. The Pixel 9 lineup may feature an upgraded Exynos 5400 modem for better connectivity and power efficiency. Since Google announced its surprise August 13 Made by Google event in late June, its upcoming Pixel phones have frequently popped up online. Instead of taking down the leaks and going after the leakers, Google did the next best thing: it officially teased the design of the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. But this is not stopping pre-production units of the new Pixels from leaking and spilling the beans on their internals. This time, a Pixel 9 Pro XL unit has popped up online, confirming its switch to a new Exynos modem and packing 16GB of RAM. Related Google drums up excitement for Pixel 9 Pro pre-orders with a mystery collectible This one isn't coming stateside though 1 In an XDA thread, member pourelle shared some hands-on images of the Pixel 9 Pro XL shared by his friend. The photos appear to be a pre-production unit of "komodo" with 16GB of Samsung-manufactured RAM and 256GB storage. They also show off the phone's rear panel and its rounded corners in all their glory. Close While the pictures show the phone using LPDDR5 RAM, it might not be accurate. The Pixel 8 Pro uses faster and more efficient LPDDR5X RAM, which the Pixel 9 series should also use. Almost all of our favorite flagship Android phones feature 12GB RAM, so it seems Google will surpass its competition with the Pixel 9 Pro and its XL sibling this year. The Pixel 8 Pro and the Google Pixel Fold also ship with 12GB of RAM. The smaller Pixel 9 could ship with 12GB of RAM, but we must wait for more leaks to confirm this. While this would be lower than its other 2024 Pixel siblings, it will still be a nice bump from the 8GB of RAM on the Pixel 8. A previous leak indicated that Google's 2024 Pixel lineup will again start with 128GB of base storage. The entry-level Pixel 9 Pro XL may pack 256GB storage to live up to its 'XL' moniker. Pixel 9 could use an upgraded Exynos modem Source: YouTube/Google More importantly, the pre-production unit points to the Pixel 9 Pro XL using an Exynos 5400 modem. Samsung's latest 5G modem is fabricated on its 4nm EUV node and based on 3GPP Release 17 with satellite connectivity support. Google uses an Exynos 5300 modem on the Pixel 8 series. Despite all of its claimed improvements, it provides sub-par connectivity and uses a lot of power. Hopefully, the Exynos 5400 will bring some notable improvements in these aspects. Google should use the same modem across its entire Pixel 9 lineup. The additional RAM could help the Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL efficiently run certain Gemini tasks locally for better performance. With three weeks to go until Google's event, we won't have to wait long to learn more about all the improvements the Pixel 9 series offers.

Pixel 9 Pro XL Photo Confirms Two Major Spec Upgrades
As we inch closer to August 13 and the official announcement for Google's upcoming Pixel 9 lineup, we continue to learn more and more about these devices. For example, the latest leak shows a reported Pixel 9 Pro XL sporting its new Samsung modem and a whopping 16GB RAM. That would indeed be a first for the Pixel lineup. In a photo of the device at FastBoot, we can see a few general specs, such as 16GB RAM, 256GB storage, plus that Komodo codename. Where "Baseband Rev" is listed, we also see 5400, referencing the new Exynos modem inside. For those who keep track of these leaks, none of this information is new, but it is the first time we've seen it via photo and not just benchmark figures and reports. With Google's push for more on-device AI, it makes sense that we would eventually see the amount of RAM go from 12GB up to 16GB. It's believed that 16GB may be the base option for the Pixel 9 Pro lineup and not just an upgrade for 256GB+ storage configurations, which would be incredible. While the design seems to have Pixel fans torn, there's no doubt that Google is addressing a issues that users have with past generations. That Samsung modem is a major one. Should the Pixel 9 lineup deliver with much improved modem performance, we think plenty of people will be pleased.

Google will shake the very foundation of the tech world with its 'Made by Google' event slated for August 13. Confirmed by the company, the highly-anticipated Pixel 9 series is coming out, though rumors and leaks suggest it could be even much more. Groundbreaking AI advancements to new hardware innovations, Google is all set to rewrite the chapters for smartphones and wearables. At the very core of this event is the Pixel 9 series, based on what its predecessors set in terms of benchmarking. Given that trajectory, a new line will most likely push pretty far advanced camera tech, powered by AI capabilities courtesy of Google. The Gemini chip could be something analogous to OpenAI's GPT-4, this might be what powers the next order of computational photography features from Magic Eraser to Astrophotography, and real-time video enhancements. Besides improving the camera technology, it is likely that the Pixel 9 series will come with huge performance upgrades; these are courtesy of a brand-new chipset. That will help people multitask more fluently and launch apps faster, too, it will be easier to game smoothly. Expected design overhauls include a sleeker look and enhanced build quality. The Pixel 9 series will most probably sport better designs, with curved glass backs and prominent camera bars. While the standard Pixel 9 could measure 6.3 inches with an OLED, the Pixel 9 Pro may be fitted with a larger 6.7" QHD+ LTPO AMOLED panel for an ever-improving refresh rate. Water and dust resistance could be improved in both models. With a new Tensor G3 chip, fabricated using a 4nm process, major performance gains over its predecessor will come as no surprise. Teamed up with ample RAM and storage options, this means that the Pixel 9 series is sure to be smooth and efficient for use. Cameras will be the main attraction, as the Pixel 9 Pro will feature a triple camera system with a primary sensor, an ultra-wide lens, and a telephoto lens, the Pixel 9 will most likely retain its dual camera setup but still deliver better optical zoom capabilities. Gemini will power a host of next-generation computational photography capabilities on both devices, which also comprises advanced portrait mode, enhanced low-light performance, and groundbreaking video stabilization.

AI is going to Google's big play with the Pixel 9 series and the early launch is likely to steal Apple's own AI thunder this year. Google has relied on AI tech to power its cameras for years, now it is time to show more value for its AI innovations and pass them down to the consumers. Having said that, Google will need to give another big reason for people to buy the new Pixel 9 phones and that is linked to the pricing of these devices, especially in markets like India where its value has been pushed due to varying reasons.
