This LED smart light panel uses AI to turn your room into a canvas
Smart lights are cool, but they should be a little more personal. While you can change things like the brightness and color of smart lights, what if you could change them to offer an image completely unique to your preferences? That's the idea behind Govee's newest smart lights, which, yes, use AI to create images using LED pixel lights. The new device is called the Gaming Pixel Light. It consists of a series of LED lights that can be illuminated in different colors, creating pixel art as they do so. The light will even accompany the art with 8-bit music, making for a more retro experience. So, what's AI about it? Well, the light connects to an app that lets you use natural language to tell the light what image you want displayed. You could tell it to show a picture of a dog, or, in my infinite creativity, I looked at my camera and asked it to make a camera. It's not the most perfect image ever, but it's a neat idea that makes for a customizable experience you can change. The app worked relatively quickly and seemed to understand my input easily. When I asked it to create an image of a camera, it created the image on the app for my approval before sending it to the device itself. You'll talk with a chatbot to create the image, prompting it to create what you want. The design of the Gaming Pixel Light is essentially a light panel similar in size to a picture frame. And, of course, there's only so much actual light you can get from something that size, and it remains to be seen if it's something you would want to use to light up your room. That said, it's a neat way to add more personality to your space. Having seen it in person, I can safely say it gets relatively bright. It's a bit gimmicky, but that doesn't make it any less cool. It can also become more versatile than just showing AI art directed by you. It can also show little animations and data from various sources, including the price of Bitcoin. The Govee Gaming Pixel Light will be available in May or June. It is available in two sizes at two price points: $99.99 and $129.99.

I tried Govee's new AI-powered gaming pixel light, and I finally see a reason to bring generative AI into my home
Govee has come out swinging at CES this year, launching a litany of exciting new products - including some of the industry's first AI-powered smart pixel lights. In addition to its new Mini Panel lights and the Table Lamp 2 Pro x Sound by JBL, Govee also unveiled its new AI-powered Gaming Pixel Light, and I'm obsessed. From real-time weather updates and time displays to AI-generated images, the Gaming Pixel Light brings all the retro fun of pixel lighting to the modern age, and it'll even accompany its pixel art with 8-bit music for the ultimate retro experience. By design, it leans heavily on the gamer aesthetic; the light slate is surrounded by a metallic frame that nods to gaming component design and will look right at home on one of the best gaming desks or next to the best consoles on a TV stand. It also offers design parity with some of Govee's other recently released products, including the Gaming Wall Light and the upcoming Gaming Light Bar Pro, which might be a little offputting for some. Still, it's right up my alley as a gamer. Using the Govee app, you can interact with the brand's AI chatbot and give it prompts, which will be applied to the Gaming Pixel Light for a personalized lighting touch. Plus, you can layer up to ten images on your original prompt, allowing you to create your own customized masterpieces. It works in both wall-mounted and tabletop modes, and through Govee's DreamView technology, you can also synchronize it with your wider smart lighting ecosystem. Most exciting of all for me, however, was its Gaming Sync Box integration, which a Govee representative told me will allow for reactive displays that will respond to in-game events for up to 40 games at launch, and it's easy to imagine that list will grow. Govee had one of my all-time favorite video games hooked up to the Gaming Pixel Light: Mario Kart 8. As the karts whipped around the track at PG-13 speeds, the Pixel Light showed various in-game items like banana skins and red shells as the player collected them. Is it gimmicky? Absolutely, but it's the kind of joyful tech nonsense I'm all for integrating into my gamer set-up, and I'm fairly confident that I'm not alone in my tolerance for fun-first tech. The Govee Gaming Pixel Light and Govee Table Lamp 2 Pro x Sound by JBL will be available in late Q2 2025, while the Govee Mini Panel Lights are currently available on the Govee website and Amazon, retailing for $99.99.

Govee's new desktop display is reserved for pixel art
The Gaming Pixel Light also has a built-in speaker for 8-bit tunes. Smart lighting company Govee has a new product that creates a quirky new product category. The Gaming Pixel Light displays still or animated pixel art set to 8-bit soundtracks. It can also show you weather updates, sports schedules and Bitcoin prices on its retro display. But it wouldn't be a CES 2025 gizmo without AI something or other stuffed inside, so you won't be surprised to learn that its companion app lets you generate AI pixel art from text prompts. As the product name suggests, the Gaming Pixel Light is marketed as a (desktop or wall-mounted) lighting companion for gamers. But it could work for anyone who wants a groovy ambiance or fun conversation piece in their home. The light has over 150 preset scenes, or you can create your own -- manually or with the app's AI chatbot. You can also control it with Alexa or Google Assistant. You can use it for still or animated pixel art, and it supports image and GIF uploads to give you more options to play with. Its animations run at 30fps, and you can build or edit your own multi-layer ones in the app. Govee claims the app's creation tools are easy to use, but we haven't tried them yet. It has a built-in speaker that can sync the lights to the rhythm of 8-bit soundtracks. And if you're willing to throw down an extra $240 (yikes) for Govee's HDMI sync box, the company says the Gaming Pixel Light will sync with game visuals in real time. The Gaming Pixel Light will be available in Q2 2025. Although Govee's press materials don't mention pricing, the company's CES 2025 website lists it as coming soon for $100. Also on display at CES is a crossover collab with JBL: the (deep breath) "Table Lamp 2 Pro x Sound by JBL." This speaker syncs its curved lighting surface to your music, a feature we've seen in many other products. It has 16 music modes, ranging from pumped-up party lighting to "calming, soothing effects for relaxing moments." The speaker-light hybrid has 240 independently controlled LED beads and over 100 preset scenes. Like the Pixel Light, it lets you go the DIY route if that's your jam. The Govee Table Lamp 2 Pro x Sound by JBL is expected to launch in late Q2 2025. There's no pricing info yet for this model.

Add a Little Nostalgia to Your Desk With These Customizable Pixel Art Lights
The Govee Gaming Pixel Light can use AI or audio to create custom pixel art and GIFs. It may even stream your games in pseudo 2D. Has all the RGB lights and excessive gaming gear on your desktop made you yearn for a simpler, more pixelated gaming experience? Govee’s latest lighting products, its Gaming Pixel Light and Mini Panel Lights, offer the best (or potentially worst) of both worlds. Its Pixel Light especially comes with a modern, spaceship-like aesthetic while containing all the faux LED pixels to remind you of the 8-bit era. Govee’s latest lighting product is tuned explicitly for gamers with its wide frame and decals. Although the Govee frame includes a 32 by 32-pixel count, it isâ€"thanks to the modern capability of LEDsâ€"able to depict images with a far more varied color palette than a traditional NES game ever could. It has over 150 preset “scenes,†including a clock or weather display. The frame supports static images and GIFs up to 30 FPS, which you can create and edit through an app. If you’ve ever seen Divoom’s slate of pixel art speakers and wall art, you’re likely feeling some deja vu. Divoom’s products, like the Timebox Evo and the non-speaker 64 by 64-pixel wall panel, include creating your own pixel art and animations and then setting them to music. What separates the Govee box is the sci-fi-aesthetic frame that may be more at home with some desktop setups than others. You can also use Govee’s in-app AI to generate pixel art with a prompt, though it takes so little effort to create 32-by-32-pixel art that you might as well ignore the AI capabilities entirely. Better yet, you can connect the frame to a Govee HDMI 2.1 Sync Box and the Govee app. This lets you stream your on-screen game visuals to the Gaming Pixel Light, showing off your detailed 3D game in a pseudo-2D pixel art fashion. Govee said its Gaming Pixel Light will also recognize music played through its speakers and change the visuals based on the beat and rhythm of the music. Govee said the Gaming Pixel Light will be available sometime in Q2 this year.

Govee's Retro Gaming Screen Combines Pixel Art With 8-Bit Music
This Security Camera Gave Me Crystal-Clear 24/7 Recording (Even at Night) Today at CES 2025, Govee announced Gaming Pixel Light, a Wi-Fi-connected accessory that brings a pixel art experience to gaming room tabletops with "more precise, vibrant displays." Govee designs and sells a myriad of creative lighting products for personalized spaces, and Gaming Pixel Light is no exception. This Wi-Fi-connected lighting solution brings a pixel art experience to your gaming room tabletop setups with "more precise, vibrant displays." ✕ Remove Ads It's basically a miniature, highly customizable display featuring an industrial design. You have a plethora of options at your disposal in terms of what to show on its LED screen in retro-style pixelated form. For example, you may choose to display anything from real-time weather updates or the current date and time to NBA schedules and Bitcoin information. If you can't find anything you like from more than 150 built-in scene modes, you can upload your images to display in the pixelated style, create your own static pixel art, use dynamic GIFs, or even create multi-layered animations at 30 frames per second. An artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm can produce various pixel lighting effects and synchronize lighting to music or game events. All you need to do is describe an atmosphere you'd like to create with a voice or text prompt such as "rainbow" or "sun." ✕ Remove Ads "The AI Lighting Bot employs Govee self-trained large-scale AI model and proprietary algorithm, ensuring industry-first text-to-light AI-generated lighting effects," the company said. "It can also seamlessly sync with other Govee devices to create immersive AI-driven lighting effects using AI Dreamview." Govee recommends connecting this thing to its HDMI 2.1 Sync Box in the app to capture game visuals in real time. Even the built-in speaker oozes retro vibes, producing 8-bit music! If you're a fan of pixel art, then Gaming Pixel Light should be right up your alley. Govee promises effortless installation as you can rest this thing on any flat surface like a tabletop or hang it on the wall, pinboard, etc. Some folks may question the utility of Gaming Pixel Light, but we need more whimsical, fun products like this. ✕ Remove Ads Govee also unveiled Gaming Light Bar Pro, which looks similar to Gaming Pixel Light but lets you customize the front, back, and bottom lighting. It features a transparent base, and works with the Matter protocol, so you can easily integrate Gaming Light Bar Pro into your existing smart home setup and use it in custom scenes and automations. Govee offers a range of smart lighting solutions that dynamically sync with and react to gameplay visuals and sounds, creating an immersive experience with pre-set scenes for gaming, viewing movies, relaxing, and more. All Govee products are easily managed and customized through its mobile app and can be integrated into smart home setups. ✕ Remove Ads The latest announcement came hot on the heels of the products Goveen introduced at the 2024 IFA show in September, including its Strip Light 2 Pro and COB Strip Light Pro, a ceiling projector, and others. We tested Govee's Strip Light 2 Pro and were impressed with its beautifully blended tones, plenty of customization options, excellent color reproduction, and broad smart home support compatibility via Matter support. Govee has announced other products at CES 2025, some of which don't seem to be new. For example, its Lamp 2 and Mini Panel Lights are available to purchase already. As for Gaming Pixel Light, Govee says it and other featured products it unveiled will be available to buy late in the second quarter of 2025, probably in the fall. The price is yet to be determined.
