A slew of new HP OmniBooks includes chip bumps and a featherweight Aero
HP is revving its line of consumer-focused OmniBook productivity laptops with a whopping 18 new models and refreshes. These fall across various sizes and form factors in its OmniBook 3, 5, 7, and top-end X lines -- including some foldable two-in-ones with stylus support. Chip-wise, there's a smattering of models using various AMD and Intel CPUs, including some with Strix Point and Lunar Lake. Price-wise, HP isn't really disclosing that information just yet. When I saw a selection of the new offerings at an in-person early preview, there were no confirmed prices. Interest-wise, the most compelling new model I saw was the HP OmniBook 7 Aero. It's a 13.3-inch laptop that weighs just 2.2 pounds -- which is half a pound less than the 13-inch MacBook Air and close to the super-light Asus Zenbook A14 shown at CES. But unlike the Snapdragon X-equipped Zenbook, the OmniBook 7 Aero is configurable, with up to an AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 (Krackan Point) chip and maxing out at 1TB SSD and 32GB of RAM. For ports, it has quite the offering considering its size: two USB-C (10Gbps) with Power Delivery and DisplayPort 2.1, one 10Gbps USB-A and one slower 5Gbps USB-A, a 3.5mm audio jack, and an HDMI 2.1. Its 13.3-inch display configurations include IPS panels with 400 nits of brightness and either 1920 x 1200 or 2560 x 1600 resolution. Powering all of this is a 43Wh battery, which sounds a little small compared to the 70Wh battery in the Zenbook A14 and the 52.6Wh cell in the MacBook Air. I suppose all those ports may have some slight tradeoffs. While the 7 Aero uses a typical chiclet-style keyboard with some sizable keycaps (those are some big, easy-to-read legends), I was surprised to see HP is adopting lattice-less keyboard designs in some of its other OmniBooks. Lattice-less keyboards have much smaller gaps between the keys, with the most extreme example found on the gapless Dell XPS 13. I personally loathe the typing feel on a lattice-less keyboard, but HP's implementation may be passable since there's still a tiny bit of spacing between the keys. An HP rep at the event mentioned the keyboards have been positively received by EliteBook users since it allows for slightly larger keycaps, so the company is testing them with more models. Speaking of EliteBooks, HP is also refreshing 20 of its commercial and enterprise-focused laptops in the EliteBook 6 and 8 series. Some highlights include the EliteBook 8, which allows for on-device local AI if you configure it with 32GB of RAM or more. It can use its local, on-device AI for simpler tasks that require lower latency or increased privacy, and throw it up to larger cloud-based models for bigger undertakings. The EliteBook 8 is HP's bread-and-butter high-volume corporate seller, so it's unsurprising to hear an even bigger emphasis on AI. Like HP's new Omen 16 Slim, we'll have to wait and see just how much all these new HP OmniBooks and EliteBooks are going to cost.

HP updates its OmniBook X line with a lattice-free keyboard, processors from AMD and Intel
HP is refreshing its premium consumer laptop lineup, the OmniBook X, with a swath of new convertibles and a large clamshell design. The updates, shown at HP's Amplify partner conference, include new lattice-free keyboards and feature chips from both Intel and AMD. The new machines are 14-inch and 16-inch convertible 2-in-1s and a 17.3-inch standard laptop. The 14-incher, the HP OmniBook X Flip 14 2-in-1, starts with an Intel Core Ultra 5 226V and goes up to a Core Ultra 7 258V, or on the AMD side, a Ryzen AI 5 340 up to a Ryzen AI 7 350. Those Ryzen chips all have 50 TOPS NPUs, while the Intel chips range from 40 to 47 TOPS. All of them hit the minimum NPU requirement to be Copilot+ PCs. The Intel models will have 16 or 32GB LPDDR5x-8533 RAM options, while the AMD models also feature a 24GB version and run at a slower LPDDR5x-7500. Intel's storage goes higher, too, at 2TB, while the AMD version tops out at 1TB. Either way, you get a 14-inch, OLED touch display with resolutions up to 2880 x 1800, as well as either Wi-Fi 6E or 7 support. The 16-inch 2-in-1 laptop has the same chip options as the 14-incher, but with a larger OLED screen. In addition, though, there's one extra configuration -- the only one not labeled as an AI PC -- with an AMD Ryzen 5 220, which doesn't feature an NPU. That one has other basic specifications including just 8GB of RAM and a 1920 x 1200 display. It's likely to be an affordable option in this high-end chassis, but HP hasn't announced any pricing for any of these systems. If you're looking for more of a workstation, the HP OmniBook X 17.3 pairs either an Intel Core Ultra 7 256V or 258V with either integrated Arc graphics or an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 Laptop GPU. This system has either 16 or 32GB of RAM and up to 2TB of storage. HP is listing a standard, 1920 x 1080 display. Across the board with these new models, HP has adopted a lattice-free keyboard, without any space between the keys; It's a design similar to what Dell was using on its XPS line - perhaps the Dell Premium line now? This allows for larger keys and, an HP rep suggested, softer typing. The standard chiclet keys will remain on the OmniBook 7 lineup and below. It seems that the blue highlights on the function keys on last year's OmniBooks have gone, which is a shame because that slight pop of color was fun. Each of these laptops has a solid selection of ports, including HDMI 2.1, USB Type-C (Thunderbolt 4 on most Intel systems), USB-A (2 ports on the 14 or 16-inch Flip, 3 ports on the 17.3-inch clamshell), and a headphone jack. They all also feature a 5MP camera with infrared for Windows Hello facial recognition. While HP is pushing these laptops as being AI-focused, demos shown to press relied primarily on image generation and other tasks that are table stakes at this point. Local AI still has a ways to go to become extremely useful on mainstream PCs. Beyond the OmniBook X series, HP is also updating its OmniBook ,. 5, and 3 series in a swathe of sizes and Intel and AMD chip options. No pricing has been announced, but HP expects to also launch these devices in the spring.

HP's new EliteStudio is a desktop PC and KVM monitor all in one
HP is holding its Amplify event this week, and with it come a lot of announcements, which include a range of new business PCs in the Elite and Pro series. The company has expanded its EliteBook and EliteDesk series to encompass more affordable options. One of the more interesting announcements, though, is the new EliteStudio 8 G1i AiO PC, which is the first desktop AiO with a KVM built-in. Related HP OmniBook Ultra Flip review: Literally everyone should buy this It's true to the Spectre x360 brand Posts 10 The expanded EliteBook series brings AI to everyone Close HP introduced the refreshed EliteBook lineup last year, but it was mostly limited to the two top tiers: EliteBook X and EliteBook Ultra. Now, the line-up is expanding down into the mid-range with the introduction of the EliteBook 8 and 6 series, along with the ProBook 4 series. As you might be able to tell by the names, these are replacements for the EliteBook 800 and 600 series of previous years, as well as the ProBook 400 series. The new HP EliteBook 8 Series comes in both AMD and Intel versions, and both options also come in 13-inch, 14-inch, and 16-inch size models. The AMD variants have chips starting with the AMD Ryzen Pro 200 series and going up to Ryzen AI 300 HX series models, while the Intel versions have Intel Core Ultra series 2 processors in the U and H series. Some models will have lower-end NPUs that don't support Copilot+, and those are called AI PCs, and others will have more powerful NPUs with Copilot+, and HP calls those Next-Gen AI PCs. All AMD models come in the three size options, but for Intel, the Next-Gen AI PCs are only available in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes. Plus, only the Intel models offer a convertible 13-inch option, while all other models are clamshell designs. Close The EliteBook 6 series is a bit more complex, with Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm models in tow. The Intel models are all labeled as just "AI PC", not "Next-Gen AI PC", meaning there's no Copilot+ support here, but they're still powered by Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processors, and they come in 13-inch, 14-inch, and 16-inch sizes. On the AMD side, there are both AI PCs with Ryzen 200 series processors and Next-Gen AI PCs with Ryzen AI 300 series chips that do support Copilot+ with up to a 50TOPS NPU. The Next-Gen AI PC models are exclusively available in 14-inch sizes, while the standard AI PCs also come in a 16-inch version. Finally, the Qualcomm models are exclusively Next-Gen AI PCs, all supporting Copilot+. You still have a range of options, though, from the base Snapdragon X up to a Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78-100, though you're limited to a 14-inch display configuration. Finally, there's the HP ProBook 4 series. This one has four main models, starting a Next-Gen AI PC powered by Qualcomm, featuring the entry-level Snapdragon X chipset, which still has a 45TOPS NPU and up to 32GB of RAM. This model only comes in a 14-inch version. Then there are standard AI PCs powered by both Intel and AMD, featuring either AMD Ryzen 200 series processors or Intel Core Ultra Series 2 U and H-series chips, and those come in either 14-inch or 16-inch versions. Finally, there's one model that has no NPU at all, the ProBook 4 G1iR, which is powered by Intel, with either Intel Core Ultra Series 1 U-series processors or an even older 13th-generation processor. The EliteStudio 8 is a PC and KVM monitor Render credit: HP Moving on to desktops, HP introduced both traditional desktops and a pair of all-in-one (AiO) PCs, the EliteStudio 8 and ProStudio 4, both powered by Intel. The EliteStudio 8 is a fairly interesting mode, too. This is an AiO that comes in both 24-inch and 27-inch versions, powered by Intel Core Ultra processors with up to a Core Ultra 9 and a 13 TOPS NPU, meaning Copilot+ isn't supported. You can also get them with optional discrete Nvidia graphics for extra performance. What makes this one particularly interesting, though, is that it's both a self-contained PC and a KVM monitor. You can use it by itself, but you can plug in a laptop using a Thunderbolt cable, and then you can use the larger screen (including touch support), speakers, and even your connected peripherals to control your laptop instead. This is designed for an office where someone might be carrying their own laptop with their data, and it allows the computer to be used in different scenarios by different people. It's also a solid PC in other ways, including up to a Quad HD display, a 5MP pop-up webcam, and solid connectivity overall. Image credit: HP Then there's the ProStudio 4, which is a much more modest 24-inch AiO. It's powered by up to an Intel Core Ultra 7 and it can be configured with optional AMD Radeon discrete graphics, plus it includes a 5MP webcam with option IR for facial recognition. It lacks the KVM feature, however, and the specs are less impressive overall. Close As for more traditional desktops, there's also the new EliteDesk 8 and the new ProDesk 4, both available in tower, SFF, and Mini form factors which have different specs. The tower and SFF form factors are the most similar, with both PCs featuring with the latest Intel Core desktop processors featuring up to a 13TOPS NPU, along with optional discrete graphics. In both cases, the SFF models can have up to an Nvidia A1000 GPU, while the tower models can be had with a wide range of options including an AMD Radeon RX 6300, Intel Arc A380, Nvidia A400, or Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050. The EliteSeries 8 can have up to 128GB of RAM, while the ProDesk 4 goes up to 64GB, plus the EliteDesk model also has one extra slot for SSD storage and better connectivity overall. As for the Mini models, it's a bit different. The EliteDesk 8 Mini is available in either AMD or Intel version, and the AMD model is the only one with the option for a Next-Gen AI PC, featuring Ryzen AI 300 series processors with up to 50TOPS of NPU performance. Both Intel and AMD also have a standard AI PC configuration, with either AMD Ryzen 200 series processors or Intel Core Ultra, but all models are similar otherwise, with up to 64GB of RAM and two M.2 slots for SSD storage. Meanwhile, the ProDesk 4 mini is only powered by 35W Intel Core Ultra processors, but it's fairly similar aside from sacrificing come of the connectivity options. If you need a new monitor to go along with these desktops, HP also introduced new Series 5 monitors in both 24-inch and 27-inch models. These are all fairly basic Full HD displays, but they should do the trick for basic office use. No word on pricing or availability If you're looking for information on pricing and availability for these products, HP's press release seems to make no mention of those details, but you can expect these products to be rolled out over the next few weeks and months.

HP's most exciting announcements this week weren't laptops
HP's new ZBook Fury G1i is the world's most powerful 18" workstation yet HP held its Amplify conference this week in Nashville, where it announced something in the range of 60 new laptops. Seriously, I can't even keep track. But while digging through press releases, I realized that the devices themselves are the least important part of the show. In attending the keynote (travel and accommodations sponsored by HP) and speaking to various HP reps, I realized that they really don't talk too much about the devices themselves. It's more about what they can do, and yes, we're talking a lot about AI. The new devices are solid, but they're not flagships. Aside from a high-end OmniBook X series that's new, everything from the Omni and Elite lines were mainstream. There was a range of OMEN and ZBook products as well. And while most of these laptops are interesting in their own right, here are three things that I thought were truly exciting. 3 HP Go 5G connectivity in laptops, but way easier Among the plethora of laptops released is the EliteBook 6 G1q, which is the Snapdragon variant of a mid-tier business laptop. It's the first product to include HP Go, a new solution for 5G in business laptops. Mostly, it's designed to make connecting to cellular way easier. eSIMs come preinstalled, and admins can configure your 5G plan with a click. More interestingly, this kind of makes HP into an MVNO, although technically it's running HP Go off of another MVNO. The company talked a bit about carrier switching, but there wasn't a whole lot of information about which carriers this unnamed MVNO is using. While the EliteBook 6 G1q is the first product to ship with HP Go, it's eventually going to come to all HP laptops that have 5G support. Related HP's new EliteStudio is a desktop PC and KVM monitor all in one HP's business lineup is nearly complete now Posts 2 Poly Camera features HP just keeps improving its webcam game Close Poly Camera Pro is an app you'll get on any new HP laptop, and it's pretty great. You can adjust all kinds of things about your webcam, from color tints and brightness to adding overlays to your view in a meeting. It shows up as a virtual webcam, so it works everywhere your your webcam works, as long as you choose it as the source. The app is getting some new features, which were announced this week. First of all, there's a new feature called AI Magic Background, which goes a bit deeper than just a prompt to use an AI-generated image as a virtual background. It checks the dimensions of the room you're in, and it makes an image based on that, right down to the height and angle of your camera. It's going to get built-in streaming, with support for YouTube and other platforms, and it's going to allow you to add yourself as an overlay on top of something that you're sharing. Poly Camera is just getting more powerful, while HP was already leading the pack in webcam quality by a fair margin. I've written in many a review that if you want the best webcam quality, you buy an HP, and it doesn't seem like the company is slowing down. These new features are coming some time this summer. Related HP's new OmniBooks are here to make you more productive on the go A range of devices for any use case. Posts 1 AI Companion is getting better HP's AI efforts are the only AI things I care about Close I think many of us have heard enough about AI. I know I have. I was just talking to someone about the recent mess around Apple Intelligence and how I simply don't care about how badly Apple has fumbled this. The only AI stuff I care about is coming from HP, or at least most of it. Hearing President of Personal Systems Alex Cho talk about HP's AI strategy is refreshing, and the messaging is simple. HP wants to talk about new things that you can do using AI PCs, rather than describe grand fantasies about what the future of AI might look like. Most other companies are doing the latter, and when it happens, I tune out. AI Companion is a tool that I use frequently, mainly for its 'Analyze' feature that lets you drop press kits a collection of PDFs in there and query it. When writing a review, it's way easier to ask it a question than dig through a press release or spec sheet. One new feature that AI Companion is getting is offline mode. HP has always said that your documents never leave the device, and I always joke with them that I don't care if they do because I'm testing it with their own confidential press materials. You do need to be online though, so now, there will be an option for everything to happen locally. If you look at some of the images above, you can see that AI Companion is distinguishing between online and offline with color themes. Speaking of themes, the whole app is getting a visual overhaul. That Analyze feature I was talking about is Libraries now, and everything is a little prettier. It's also getting voice prompts, so you'll be able to use it hands-free. I wasn't actually able to demo this, but I assume it works exactly like typing, except with speaking. The new AI Companion with offline mode is coming very soon, and voice prompts are coming this summer. You'll need a Copilot+ PC, or what HP is calling a next-gen AI PC. Don't sleep on OMEN AI OMEN AI is going to make your games perform better. It's going to analyze your hardware configuration, the game you're playing, the peripherals you're using, and resources available on your system to optimize your settings. This sounds really cool, and I'll have to run proper testing on it before I want to say I'm excited about it. For now, let's call it something to keep an eye on. OMEN AI is going to be coming to all HP gaming PCs through OMEN Command Center, which means that technically, you can use it on a non-HP PC if you want to.

HP's new OmniBooks are here to make you more productive on the go
Summary HP OmniBook X Flip 2-in-1 laptops are AI powerhouses with Intel and AMD processors up to 50 TOPS. HP OmniBook 3, 5, and 7 ranges offer laptops for all needs, from touchscreen capabilities to budget-friendly options. HP OmniBook X 17.3-inch laptop is great for those who prefer a larger screen and Nvidia GPU over the flipping feature. If you want to get more work done on the go and you're on the hunt for a new laptop, HP may have just revealed what you're looking for. The company pulled back the curtain on its new OmniBook range during the HP Amplify Conference 2025, and there's a lot to get through. So, let's hop into the range and see what was revealed. Related HP OmniBook Ultra Flip review: Literally everyone should buy this It's true to the Spectre x360 brand Posts 10 The HP OmniBook X Flip 2-in-1 laptops are an AI powerhouse First up, we have the HP OmniBook X Flip 2-in-1 laptop. This comes in both 14 and 16-inch variants and can flip around to become a tablet for even more portability. It's also great at handling AI tasks: AI-boosted brainpower has arrived, fueled by an Intel Core Ultra processor and a built-in NPU up to 48 TOPS, as well as AMD Ryzenâ„¢ AI 300 series processor and built-in NPU with up to 50 TOPS . Supported by a personalized AI assistant, like Copilot+ PC experiences, you have the power and speed to work more and play harder. If you're not bothered with the flipping feature, you can instead grab the HP OmniBook X 17.3-inch laptop. This scraps the tablet mode but comes with a larger screen and an Nvidia GPU. The HP OmniBook 3, 5, and 7 introduce laptops for all walks of life Next, we have the range of HP OmniBook 3, 5, and 7 laptops. At the top of the range is the OmniBook 7, which comes with 14, 16, and 17.3-inch options alongside a few flip variants. It doesn't seem to have the option for an AMD processor like the OmniBook X does, but you do get a bigger selection of Intel chips, including some that are more powerful than the X's. It also comes with up to 48 TOPS of AI processing. If AI isn't your thing, you can give the OmniBook 5 a try. These cut down on the NPUs without sacrificing too much base power, coming with either up to an Intel Core i7 150U or a Ryzen 7 8840U, depending on which brand you prefer. The OmniBook 5 comes in either a 16-inch version or a 14-inch flip variant. Finally, there's the OmniBook 3. This doesn't have the same touchscreen capabilities of the other models, and comes in a 14 and a 15.6-inch variant. However, this does make them the perfect pick for someone who doesn't want all the bells and whistles of the other models and just needs an affordable and reliable workmate to take to work or school.

HP just unveiled 60+ new laptops and PCs. Here are my favorites
From desktop PCs to ultra-light laptops. For work, leisure, and gaming. I saw them all in person and these are the ones that stood out. At HP Amplify 2025, the company's big annual conference for showcasing its latest products and services, HP unveiled nearly the entire set of its new PCs for the year. I lost count at some point, but HP claims over 60 new models of laptops and PCs. While technically true, it's a bit fudged -- the company counts some variants of the same computer as separate. For example, if the same laptop comes in Intel, AMD, and Snapdragon options, then each one is a distinct "model" even if everything else is the same. That also goes for screen sizes, 2-in-1 variants, and so on. Even so, there were a lot of computers. I was there in person, wandering around the showroom with everything on display, along with plenty of other innovations (especially for business customers), such as management systems, security and printing solutions, etc. But I was there for the computers, from neat little desktop PCs to mighty workstations to laptops of all kinds. There were so, so many laptops. It was hard to tell them apart, but HP aims to make them easier to distinguish than before. The older, confusing sub-brands -- Pavilion, Envy, and Spectre -- have been scrapped and replaced by OmniBook. HP ushered in that line with a few OmniBook laptops last year, but now everything will be OmniBook going forward. These OmniBooks are then divided by suffixes. For example, the OmniBook 3 is cheap and simple, the OmniBook 5 more "normal" and mid-range, the OmniBook 7 more luxurious and lighter, and the OmniBook X supposedly at the top... except for the OmniBook Ultra, which is really the high-performance tier. Are HP's laptops now easier to parse? Maybe. Maybe not. I'll have to come back in a year or two when all the older models have disappeared and OmniBook reigns alone. But to make matters a bit more confusing, there's also the new OmniDesk line of desktop PCs and OmniStudio line of all-in-one machines. HP's gaming PCs retain the names Omen and Victus (with only a single model launched in the latter). Business laptops are still called ProBook and EliteBook, but specialized model names are apparently being phased out here as well. (I didn't see any new "Dragonfly" ultra-light business laptops, for example, but some EliteBooks were really slim.) Finally, there's the Z series of powerful workstations for professionals, which get to keep their names. Plenty of new ZBook laptops and Z desktop PCs were also on show. It's no secret that HP is making a major investment in AI. Expect all new releases, starting with the OmniBook 5 and up, to be equipped with an NPU that can run local AI features. What about the budget-focused OmniBook 3? It's unclear whether that one will also come with AI capabilities. I didn't see any, but maybe with time. I couldn't quite figure out if there was Copilot+ certification across the board, but HP has added several of its own AI features to its machines, right down to the cheapest models. For example, there are Poly Studio (which adds webcam effects and controls, plus noise reduction for microphones) and AI Companion (HP's own AI app that indexes local documents and lets you do semantic searches via a chat interface). All of this happens locally on your computer's NPU to keep your data private and secure. HP Omen 16 Slim. The new gaming laptop that's barely 0.89 inches thick and only weighs 5.29 pounds but has a fast 16-inch display, massive cooling elements, and heavy performance under the hood with an Intel Core Ultra 9 285H processor and Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 graphics. Learn more about it in PCWorld's hands-on experience of it. HP OmniBook 7 Aero. A very stylish 13-inch laptop that weighs about 2 pounds and packs plenty of performance thanks to its AMD Ryzen AI 300 processor. It has decent graphics performance, 50 TOPS for AI, and low-power operation. I'm really looking forward to trying this one. HP OmniBook 5. This one comes in sizes from 14 to 16 inches and feels very stable, comfortable, and well-built for something that starts around $800. That's a great price for a quality laptop with AI performance, and it could be many people's first AI PC. HP Z2 G1a. When I tested Asus' monster ROG Flow Z13 tablet, I wondered what a compact desktop PC with the same processor (Ryzen AI Max Pro 395) could do with more cooling and higher power. The answer is here. HP has put it in a compact mini PC format and is selling it as an HP Z workstation. It really does go fast -- and it costs. The AMD rep I spoke to said it would be released globally, but couldn't say for sure if it was for all markets. I hope so because I want to test it. HP EliteStudio 8. This all-in-one computer seriously lives up to its "all in one" epithet. With a large, built-in Poly webcam that pops up, speakers built for clear voices, and AI-powered microphone management, along with Poly Studio software, this machine is perfect as a video conferencing workstation. With its last-gen Intel Core Ultra processor, AI performance isn't quite up to scratch, but it's good enough for most tasks. KVM functionality means you can also use it to dock your laptop. It certainly seems complete and very all-in-one. There could of course be more highlights in the deluge of computer news. If I were to ask HP, they'd say every single one was a highlight, so I was none the wiser. But these made my tester fingers itch and I hope all of them can be found and reviewed during the year.

I'm shocked by HP's new ultra-light, Ryzen AI-powered laptop
The OmniBook 7 Aero is under a kilogram -- but with an AMD Ryzen 7 AI 350 processor, it's no lightweight. If I had a nickel for every time I went to an NYC press event and got blown away by a super-light laptop, I'd have two nickels over the last four months. The first would be when Asus unveiled the Zenbook A14 before CES 2025. The second would be now, with HP doing something similar with its sub-1kg (2.2-pound) OmniBook 7 Aero. Two nickels isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice. Thin-and-light laptops are certainly desirable, and both of these designs are eye-catching. But there's an important distinction between them. The Asus design uses an Arm-based Snapdragon X processor for incredible battery life, which might not be a great trade-off for those who want a lot of extra oomph. The HP design goes with AMD's latest laptop processors, which makes it a powerhouse by comparison. With a white (or silver) exterior and keyboard deck but a black bezel around the screen (I think of it as a reverse Oreo), the OmniBook Aero 7 most resembles the OmniBook X 14, which shares the "AI" badge below the keyboard indicating it's a Copilot+ laptop. Sadly, the rather distinctive blue splash of a power button on that design is gone, not that the Aero 7 needs it to turn heads. The newer design is a brand-new magnesium alloy chassis with a 13.3-inch screen. Otherwise, the laptop's design doesn't seem all that remarkable. As someone who pays special attention to keyboards, I appreciate that the Delete key is placed correctly by nudging the power button to the side, though I wonder if that might cause frustration until you've adapted to those being so close to one another. Note the lack of a fingerprint reader, though there's a Windows Hello face scanner in the camera, which also has a physical privacy shutter. The IPS-LCD screen is generous at 2560×1600, but you'll have to splurge for that as the default screen is only 1200p. Sadly, there's no OLED option. The super-wide central hinge, another point of distinction from the other recent OmniBook designs, might specifically be for letting the lid raise without also pulling up the lightweight main body. On the left side you get a single USB-A port kept company with a headphone jack, with a much more crowded left side housing two USB-C ports, another USB-A, and a full-sized HDMI port. The big shocker is the weight, of course. A super-light laptop isn't unprecedented, as I said in the beginning. But a super-light laptop that doesn't compromise on power is, if not exactly mythical, then very hard to find. You're either looking at something of a splurge for aspiring C-suiters like the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon series or the aforementioned Zenbook and its lower power threshold. There are also laptops that go smaller than 13 inches, like the Surface Go Laptop or various Chuwi models (basically better versions of the old "netbook" category). This is something different. The OmniBook Aero 7 uses full-fat AMD Ryzen AI 300-series processors -- either an 8-core 350 or 6-core 340 -- and, according to HP's promo materials, can offer up to 32GB RAM and 1TB of storage. That puts it on par with, if not quite at the same level as, something like the EliteBook X G1a. Not only will it be able to handle all the usual browsing and office tasks with aplomb, it should have some of the best gaming options of any laptop on the market using integrated graphics, maybe even some light media production duties as well. HP's representatives gave a battery life quote of 15.75 hours, with the usual proviso that it's a video rundown test. The 12.25 hours of "mixed usage" claim raises my eyebrows a bit, especially considering the small-ish 43 watt-hour battery. But again, if you want a laptop that'll last for a day and change, you can find them out there; if you want one that you can carry around in a backpack for hours without noticing and one that packs a serious processor punch, this is it. I don't have a release date or pricing info for the OmniBook Aero 7 yet. Based on previous hardware in the OmniBook series, I'd guess somewhere in the $1,100 to $1,300 range... unless HP doesn't want to sell any. Presumably, it'll hit shelves sometime later this year. I'd be surprised to see it before August, though.

HP's new OmniBook lineup looks set to smash AI laptop price barriers -- that's a good thing if the company keeps up its end of the deal
Copilot+ PCs are the most effective weapon Microsoft has against the MacBook, but price has always been an obstacle. Every laptop company has jumped in on the hype, and none have managed to go lower than $900. Well, HP's latest OmniBook lineup looks primed to change that -- bringing a huge range of new laptops packing the latest from Intel and AMD. Let me take you through them. Sliding into the AI PC family with HP's current OmniBook Ultra laptops are the following three lineups. OmniBook 3: OmniBudget Available in both 14- and 15.6-inch display sizes, these are two of the laptops I'm very excited to try. Why? Well, the plan is to make these "perfectly priced," which means they could be the first Copilot+ PCs to jump on our best budget laptops list. These pack a 1080p panel, up to an FHD webcam with dual array digital microphones, and a decent array of I/O including USB-C and 2x USB-A. Powering these are AMD's lower-end AI 5 and AI 7 chipsets -- all of which pack that same NPU as the higher-end to process up to 50 trillion operations per second (TOPS). And following the Copilot+ rules, you're getting a minimum of 16GB of DDR5 RAM. With all of this packed into a plastic chassis, I'm not expecting this to feel like the most premium laptop in the hand. But provided there are good ergonomics (HP's pretty good at this) and an even better price (fingers crossed for a $500 base cost), then we're golden here. These are chalking up to be great laptops for education or your regular family computer. OmniBook 5: The mid-range I call this the mid-range, but in all honesty, it's a bit all over the place. There are some laptops in this range that are definitely on the lower end in terms of internals. For example, the OmniBook 5 Flip packs a U-series Intel notebook chip, and there is a version of the OmniBook 5 that comes with AMD's Ryzen 8040U series CPU. But let's move past these, move up the family and focus on the AI PC models of the 14- and 16-inch OmniBook 5 laptops. With these, you're getting a wider selection of NPU-armed silicon from the Intel Core Ultra 285H to the AMD Ryzen AI 7 H 350. And you'll find upgrades elsewhere -- including a 5MP IR camera for all your Windows Hello authentication needs, and up to a 2K OLED display, which are all packed into a part-plastic, part-aluminum chassis. My guess would be that these would start at roughly $700 given the specs, sizes and build quality available. OmniBook 7: All-in versatility These are for peak productivity -- a recycled aluminum chassis packs up to a 3K OLED panel, the latest and greatest from Intel and AMD, and even upgradeability to an RTX 4050 for a dedicated graphical push. There are 14-, 16- and 17-inch options on offer here, but chief among the lineup is the OmniBook 7 Aero, which looks set to put the Asus Zenbook A14 on blast by being the "world's lightest next gen AI PC," in the company's own words. You're getting all the usual specs of an AI PC here, including AMD Ryzen AI chip options, plenty of I/O, that 5MP IR camera and up to 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM, but it will weigh less than 2.2 pounds. OmniBook X: OmniBig So far, we've seen the 14-inch HP OmniBook X packing Snapdragon X Elite. Well, X is no longer a Qualcomm signifier, and no longer are we dealing with just a 14-inch model. There are now 16- and 17-inch models, too, along with a 2-in-1 AI PC -- each coming in either Intel or AMD flavors, and the 17-incher giving you an RTX 4050 option. And same as the current OmniBook X, you're getting a full metal shell, up to a 3K OLED panel, and that matte black finish as an option. Can the prices be low? When we talk about being budget-conscious, we've got to talk about the tariff situation. Because if there's one thing we've learned from speaking to experts, it's that cheaper laptops will be hit the hardest. Let me be clear -- this part of the puzzle is a little bit out of HP's control. At a time when we're all really feeling the squeeze, affordability is more crucial than ever. And outside of the M4 MacBook Air dropping by $100 (my theory is Apple's absorbed some of the profit margin here), most companies are either announcing price rises or sneakily upping costs without telling anyone. Acer's lineup is going up by 10%, Nvidia GPUs are rising to as much as $3,000 (part tariff-part scalping by retailers), and we're hearing rumblings of more price hikes coming (though nobody wants to say anything on the record yet). Copilot+ PCs have all hung out closer to that $1,000 mark, and I've been waiting for a company to finally bring the heat and undercut this expectation. Can HP be the one to do it? Could the company do a $500-$600 AI laptop? All we can do is wait and see. More from Tom's Guide

Five Cool AI PCs Unveiled At HP Amplify 2025
'We need to make sure that all of our portfolio takes advantage of AI at the edge, and that we're able to integrate and to run large language models locally, so customers don't need to upload all of their information to the cloud,' HP CEO Enrique Lores during remarks opening HP Amplify 2025. At HP Inc.'s Amplify event that kicked off Tuesday in Nashville, Tenn., the company announced AI PCs that it says give users and businesses dozens of reasons to upgrade their devices, with improvements to power and efficiency as well as the ability to run large language models locally for increased security. HP CEO Enrique Lores said the company brought a full lineup of PCs to the show and focused on making AI mainstream in the PC category. "We need to make sure that all of our portfolio takes advantage of AI at the edge, and that we're able to integrate and to run large language models locally, so customers don't need to upload all of their information to the cloud. They don't need to wait for the system to respond because of the latency and they can manage and use all their private information to take advantage of the models." [RELATED: HP Inc. Unleashes New AI PCs At CES 2025, Wins Three Innovation Awards] From the vendors that make them to the channel that sells them, the entirety of the PC market is banking on the aging installed base and Microsoft's Windows 10 end of support to fuel a surge in PC sales this year. Harry Zarek, president of HP partner Compugen - No. 60 on CRN's Solution Provider 500 based in Richmond Hill, Ontario - told CRN he sees a massive opportunity for HP's AI machines inside the modern office. "We're very optimistic about the advent of the AI PC because we believe it will demonstrate a very different experience the people who have three- and four-year-old PCs and are doing a lot of video calling, Teams or Zoom or Webex. Video and voice and graphics, all of that, that whole experience, we expect to change dramatically." Many customers bought PCs before they were capable of meeting the demands that video and audio streaming would eventually require, but the new generation not only meets those needs, it can exceed them with advances that give users the ability to edit the appearance of live streams. "People will be desirous of getting technology that has really been designed for collaboration, because if you bought a PC at the pandemic these machines were not designed to run high quality video, live video, live streaming and doing a bunch of other things," he told CRN. Here are five of the new or next generation of PC models introduced at HP Amplify:
