iOS 18.2 Public Beta 2 Brings More Than Just AI to Your iPhone
Apple software beta tester, "Helps make our computers and phones work!" - Zach's grandparents Apple released the second public beta of iOS 18.2 on Nov. 12, a day after the company released the third developer beta of the software. The beta arrives about two weeks after Apple released iOS 18.1 to the general public. While iOS 18.1 brought a few new features and fixes to all iPhones, and a few Apple Intelligence features to others, the latest beta brings more AI features to some developers and beta testers. There are also a few new features and upgrades in the beta that aren't a part of Apple Intelligence, so everyone can access them. Read more: An Expert's Guide to iOS 18 Since this is a beta, I recommend downloading it only on something other than your primary device. Because this isn't the final version of iOS 18.2, the update might be buggy and battery life may be short, so it's best to keep those troubles on a secondary device. Note that the beta is not the final version of iOS 18.2, so there could be more features to land on your iPhone when iOS 18.2 is released. There's no word on when Apple will release iOS 18.2 to the public yet. Here are some of the features that could land on your iPhone with iOS 18.2 soon. Just a reminder that only developers and beta testers who have an iPhone 15 Pro, Pro Max or the iPhone 16 lineup can access the AI features for now. If you have any other iPhone, you won't have access to those features. The Find My app can be used to locate things like your AirPods and MacBook, and with the iOS 18.2 beta, Apple makes it easy for everyone to get help finding lost items. In the beta, if you go into Find My > Items and tap one of your items, you have two new options: Share Item Location and Show Contact Info. If you enable Share Item Location, Find My will create a link that you can share with others so they can notify you if they find your lost or missing item. This could be especially helpful as we head into the holidays as more people are traveling and losing luggage at airports or leaving items behind. These links expire after one week, though, which may not be enough time to find them. If you enable Show Contact Info, others can connect to lost items so they can find ways to contact you and bring your item back to you. The Mail app on every iPhone also gets an upgrade in the iOS 18.2 beta. Apple announced in September that Mail would soon be able to sort emails to multiple categories to keep your important emails in one place and ads or promotions in another, like Gmail and Outlook do. The new layout keeps things mostly tidy, but Mail doesn't always get it right. For example, I found an email for digital tickets I previously ordered in the Promotions category rather than the Primary category. You don't have to use the new layout if you don't want to. To change your Mail layout back, go into Mail, tap the three dots (...) in the top right corner and tap List View. Apple previously removed the volume slider on the iPhone's lock screen. You could still use the volume buttons on the side of your iPhone, but it wasn't as precise as the slider. With the iOS 18.2 beta, though, you can add the slider back to your lock screen. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Audio and Visual and tap the toggle next to Always Show Volume Control. Now, whether you're listening to a podcast or music from one of Apple's apps or a third-party app the volume slider will be present on your lock screen. If you have kids who like to play games or watch videos on their iPhones and they set the music to full blast, that could damage their device's speakers -- not to mention it could be annoying to you. With the iOS 18.2 beta, you can set a maximum volume limit on your, or your kid's, iPhone. To set a limit go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Volume Limit and tap the toggle next to Limit Maximum Volume. A scale will appear and you can select what you want the limit to be. Apple does note that this limit doesn't apply to things like phone calls, FaceTime calls, emergency calls or Find My sounds. There are over 3,000 emoji you can use, but sometimes you can't find the one you really want. Genmoji is here to help. With the Apple Intelligence Genmoji feature, you can describe the emoji you're looking for and iPhones with Apple Intelligence will attempt to generate a new emoji based on your description. To use Genmoji, go into a message and tap the emoji keyboard in the bottom left corner of your keyboard. Then, type the emoji you're looking for into the search bar. If there isn't an emoji that matches your description, tap Create New Emoji just below the search bar. Your iPhone will then show you a few examples of what it came up with based on your description. You can swipe through the emoji, and when you find a Genmoji you like, tap Add in the top right corner to permanently add that new emoji to your keyboard. This is Apple's answer to Google Lens. Visual Intelligence is an Apple Intelligence feature that lets you point your camera at something, like a dog, and your iPhone will then use the photo to search online to help you identify it. The feature can also be used to detect phone numbers to create contacts, scan QR codes and translate languages. You can also integrate this feature with ChatGPT to help you identify items, as well as to help you better understand what's on a page or screen. It's important to note that you don't need a ChatGPT account to use the integration. This feature is also only available on the iPhone 16 lineup since it utilizes the series' new camera control side-button. If you have one of the new iPhones, long press the new side-button where the SIM card tray used to be to quickly pull up Visual Intelligence. "The camera control provides instant, easy access to the camera with just a click. It allows you to adjust various camera features simply by sliding your finger," Apple said at its "Glowtime" event in September. "Its convenient design ensures it's always within reach." This Apple Intelligence feature takes Genmoji one step further and lets you create whole images based on text prompts called Image Playground. This feature is a standalone app and it can also be found in Message by tapping the plus (+) button to the left of your text box. Image Playground is filled with prompt suggestions, themes, places and more to get you started. You can enter multiple prompts to make the image more specific, but once I entered seven prompts a popup appeared telling me to use fewer. There's also an option to change the art style from the default cartoony 3D images to illustrations. If you want to put yourself, friends and family or your pet into one of these images, you can. Tap the plus (+) sign in the bottom right corner and then tap either Choose Photo or Take Photo. You'll still have to choose or enter a prompt in addition to the photo. The feature can create some simple images, and it can be unintentionally funny with how weird other images are. In one instance, I selected the prompts astronaut, artist and lighthouse. One of the results showed what I can only describe as a half-stronaut propped up on an easel surrounded by frames opposite another easel with a drawing of a lighthouse on it. Stellar work. You can also draw a sketch in Notes, select your sketch and use it with Visual Playground. That way you can either clean up your sketch, or if you're not an artist -- like myself -- you can use the feature to flesh out your sketch. Read more: Apple Intelligence's New Notification Summary Feature Can Be Absurdly Wrong Apple announced at WWDC in May that its virtual assistant Siri was entering a "new era" soon thanks to Apple Intelligence enhancements. With the iOS 18.2 beta, Apple is bringing most of those enhancements to some iPhones. With Apple Intelligence, instead of seeing a logo pop up on your screen when you activate Siri, you'll see a glowing light around your screen. You can use Siri like you normally would, and you can also use ChatGPT for your queries. I asked Siri to use ChatGPT to show me how to brew a cup of coffee, and it wrote out a seven-step process on how to make drip coffee in a standard brewer. The instructions were a little wonky, telling me to measure out my water and coffee grounds before grinding my coffee beans. There is a disclaimer at the bottom of these ChatGPT requests that reads, "Check important info for mistakes." You can also copy what Siri and ChatGPT show you by tapping a button in the top right corner of the window that shows two pieces of paper. Then, you can paste this in a message or a note if you want -- but again, you should verify the details of your request. If you have any phones from the iPhone 16 lineup, you have the Camera Control button. You have to press this twice to open your camera if your screen is asleep or inactive, but Apple introduced a new toggle in the iOS 18.2 public beta so that you can press the Camera Control once to open your camera even if your screen is off. To do this, go to Settings > Display & Brightness and tap the toggle next to Require Screen On to disable the feature. Now if you press the Camera Control while your screen is off, your iPhone will open your Camera without a second press. However, it could also lead to accidentally opening your camera more often. Those are a few of the new features public beta testers can try with the second iOS 18.2 public beta. There will likely be more betas before this version of the OS is released to the public, so there's plenty of time for Apple to change these features. As of now, there's no word on when Apple will release iOS 18.2 to the general public, but Apple said in October that more Apple Intelligence features will arrive in December.

Reasons Why iOS 18.2 Will Be A Bigger Update For iPhone Than You Think
Apple's iOS 18.2 beta is in its third beta cycle, and Apple has introduced many changes to the latest build. While the new additions and changes are a welcome addition for all users, the update will bring a handful of major features that will redefine how we use our iPhone. Apple debuted iOS 18.1 with Apple Intelligence to the general public, but it failed to leave its mark, and users are practically not able to take advantage of the AI feature. Here's why iOS 18.2 will be a major update and a game-changer for iPhone users. Apple Intelligence is the company's latest software experience, and it has several AI-focused utilities rooted deep within the operating system. You will find Apple Intelligence features in Messages, Photos, Notes, Calculator, and various other areas, helping you reduce your workload or offering a different directive altogether. However, many of the features are still missing from the current update, and the company is taking the time to introduce them. Users have shown their concern over the absent features and the user experience is the same as before. The company announced that iOS 18.2 would be released in December, and based on prior rumors, the company could release it on December 9. The update will redefine how users use their iPhones in a lot of ways, and there are a few major reasons for this. Apple Intelligence, as a whole, will get a major boost in December with iOS 18.2, as the company will finally integrate ChatGPT with Siri. This will allow the virtual assistant to take assistance from OpenAI's AI-powered model. With ChatGPT integration, Siri will be able to handle your day-to-day queries and provide in-depth information that Apple's digital assistant is incapable of. You can ask complex questions, and based on our experience, Siri will require user permission to access ChatGPT without sharing personal data. Another reason why iOS 18.2 will be a major update is Image Playground, which will allow users to generate images, a feature that will receive continuous updates in the future to perfect the language model. Images will be generated using natural language commands, which could prove to be quite helpful in various scenarios. Genmoji will allow you to create custom emojis on the go, allowing you to converse with more expressions that standard emojis cannot offer. While the aforementioned changes are part of Apple Intelligence, another major feature that will redefine your iPhone experience is iPhone Mirroring with Hotspot. This means that users will be able to use the same internet through the iPhone on the Mac, while your iPhone's screen is mirrored on your M series-powered Mac. The feature itself is pretty handy as it allows easy data sharing and accessibility through a single device. With the iOS 18.2 update, you will also receive a few other features, including a new view for watching videos in the Photos app, Camera Control double-click speed, the ability to adjust the volume on the Lock Screen, a Safari download progress bar in Notifications and the Lock Screen, and much more. Altogether, these features will enhance user experience and the overall general perception of Apple Intelligence, as the devices would be capable of doing so much more than what they can do right now. Apple was a little late to the AI game, but the decision to take things slow and invest in research could prove to be beneficial to the company in the long run. We will share additional details on the update as soon as it is available for your iPhone. Do you think these features will increase productivity and general accessibility for users?

6 Apple Intelligence Features Coming With iOS 18.2
Key Takeaways iOS 18.2 will introduce Genmoji which can create custom emojis through text-based inputs or images within the emoji keyboard. Another Apple Intelligence feature, Image Playground, can create images based on text prompts, offering styles like animation and illustration. ChatGPT integration enhances Writing Tools and Siri in iOS 18.2, letting iPhone owners request specific changes to text styles and get answers to complex queries. ✕ Remove Ads While iOS 18.1 provided a glimpse at what Apple Intelligence can do, iOS 18.2 will include some of the most long-awaited GenAI features for supported iPhones. Let's check them out. ✕ Remove Ads 1 Create Fun Emojis With Genmoji First and foremost, iOS 18.2 will introduce Genmoji, which is similar to Google's Emoji Kitchen feature but with a reliance on generative AI. Built into the emoji keyboard, the feature allows users to generate an emoji through text-based inputs, like "A cat wearing sunglasses and a party hat." You can also create a Genmoji based on someone's picture (but that person must be identified by name in the Photos app). ✕ Remove Ads While Apple's native apps already support the feature in the iOS 18.2 public beta, a new API (designed for Genmoji) allows developers to integrate the Apple Intelligence feature into their apps. When the stable iOS 18.2 build goes live (sometime in December), iPhone owners should be able to create and send Genmoji emojis just like regular text. It will also be possible to copy and paste AI-generated emojis and send them as stickers in chats. The feature should work well for notes, creative headlines for blogs, and even quirky messages, allowing owners of compatible devices to freely express themselves while communicating with friends, family, or colleagues. As and when the Genmoji feature arrives, you should be able to use it through the native iOS Keyboard (emoji > Genmoji). If you've used a text-to-image generator in the past, you shouldn't take long to get a hang of it. ✕ Remove Ads 2 Create Animated or Illustrated Pictures With Image Playground Unlike Genmoji, Image Playground gets its own app wherein you can enter the description of an image in the text bar, wait a few seconds, and get an AI-generated picture ready in a matter of seconds. The app offers renditions of the same description, allowing you to choose the one you like the most. However, if you aren't satisfied with the outcome, you can modify the prompt with a more detailed description or choose one of the app's suggestions. After creating an image, you can copy it to the clipboard or save it directly to your iPhone's memory. You can also share it using the iOS Share Sheet, which includes third-party social media or messaging apps. Besides entering prompts and fine-tuning the results, you can also experiment with the Image Playground themes like adventure, summer, disco, and sunset plus combine them with places like city, space, park, and so on. ✕ Remove Ads This Apple Intelligence feature also suggests adding themed costumes and accessories if you're using them to create a funny picture of your friends. In addition to identified people in Photos, you can also import other images from the app, which act as a reference point for the AI. If you're hoping the app can create photorealistic images, don't get too excited. By default, Image Playground only supports two styles: Animation (with a detailed, 3D look) and Illustration (with a plain, 2D look). 3 Image Wand Elevates Your Notes With Required Images ✕ Remove Ads You can also use Image Playground in the native Notes app on iOS via the new Image Wand feature. Available in the Apple Pencil tool palette, the feature helps you make your notes more lively by turning rough sketches into images. It could be really useful for those topics that involve complex diagrams, like that of the human heart or the cross-section of an engine. "Users can even select empty space to create an image using context from the surrounding area," so says the official WWDC 2024 press note. Moreover, the Image Wand feature is an extension of the Image Playground app curated for the Notes app. More details about the feature, how it works, and how accurate it is should surface shortly. So far, we've discussed three image-generation features created for different tasks. However, the iOS 18.2 beta doesn't allow users to use these features directly. There's a waitlist in place to use these three features; you can join it by trying to access the following features in their native apps. ✕ Remove Ads 4 Improved Writing Tools With ChatGPT Integration As part of iOS 18.1, Apple introduced Writing Tools, a set of features that lets users summarize, proofread, rewrite, and organize text at the press of a button. The feature is already available on supported iPhone, iPad, and Mac models. I haven't spent much time with the feature, but it seems to work fine. However, with iOS 18.2, Apple will improve Writing Tools by integrating OpenAI's ChatGPT. With ChatGPT, you can upload a piece of text, like a letter or an email, and ask the chatbot to rephrase it in a particular style. Even Writing Tools in iOS 18.1 allows you to rewrite something in a friendly, professional, or concise tone, but it cannot go beyond that. That will change in December, as iOS 18.2 will let you describe a specific change that you want to apply to the selected text. ✕ Remove Ads For instance, one can make a dinner party invite read like a poem or add more dynamic action words to their resume, all using the ChatGPT-infused Writing Tools. With the release of iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.2 should also get the new Writing Tools. 5 The Much-Needed Siri Upgrade (Courtesy of ChatGPT) In its current state, Siri is a solid virtual assistant that can do many staple tasks, like calling someone, sending a message, setting an alarm, starting a timer, playing and pausing music, and so on. In iOS 18.1, the assistant will become more natural sounding and be able to better understand your commands even when you correct yourself mid-sentence. ✕ Remove Ads The next batch of Apple Intelligence features will further improve Siri by integrating ChatGPT's ability to process natural language and the vast database it commands. Whatever query Siri can't tackle, it will pass on to ChatGPT, which will process it and relay the result to Siri. Whenever the virtual assistant needs to do so, it will ask for your permission. If you use the feature too frequently, you can bypass the permission prompt through the Settings app. Having Siri pass on the requests to OpenAI shouldn't be a privacy concern either, as the company must process it solely to fulfill it, not train AI models with it. In addition, Siri should also gain on-screen awareness with iOS 18.2, but Apple hasn't confirmed it yet. 6 Visual Intelligence, Apple's Answer to Google Lens ✕ Remove Ads While most Apple Intelligence features are coming to all supported iPhone models, there's one that's exclusive to the iPhone 16: Visual Intelligence. Visual Intelligence is a virtual lookup feature that provides details about an object or a place. It does so by sourcing publicly-available information on the internet. For instance, if you point your phone at a restaurant and invoke Visual Intelligence, it will fetch you the reviews, photos, and other remarks uploaded by visitors, along with the restaurant's hours and contact number. To use the feature, iPhone 16 users can press and hold the Camera Control button. Once in the Visual Intelligence interface, they can take a picture and ask ChatGPT about it. Alternatively, users can also perform a Google search with the image, similar to what Google Lens does, but in a more seamless and iOS-like fashion. ✕ Remove Ads Now you know about the six main Apple Intelligence features coming to iOS 18.2 later this year, and whether or not you should upgrade. If you're rocking an older iPhone, check out my experience upgrading from the iPhone 13 to the iPhone 16 (and how the iPhone 16 compares to the iPhone 16 Pro).

iOS 18.2 has the best Apple Intelligence features, here's what's coming - 9to5Mac
iOS 18.2 is just a few weeks away. It's a huge software update that includes some of the best, most powerful Apple Intelligence features yet. Here's the full list of AI features coming soon. Apple Intelligence's debut in iOS 18.1 offered lots of new capabilities, but what's coming next is even better. Some of the most highly anticipated AI features will arrive on compatible devices with iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2. Here's everything that's coming: When Apple Intelligence first launched in iOS 18.1, it arrived with a waitlist for users. The company is doing something similar with its second set of AI features in iOS 18.2, but only for image generation. After installing iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, or macOS Sequoia 15.2, you'll need to request explicit access to use the image features like Genmoji, Image Playground, and Image Wand. This special waitlist is due to Apple's 'Responsible AI' principle to 'Design with care.' As the company describes it: We take precautions at every stage of our process, including design, model training, feature development, and quality evaluation to identify how our AI tools may be misused or lead to potential harm. We will continuously and proactively improve our AI tools with the help of user feedback. Essentially, Apple doesn't want its AI tools to be used for harm -- whether intentionally or by accident. So it's rolling out image generation access slowly, over a period of time. iOS 18.2 is currently in public beta and its full launch will happen in early-to-mid December. After it debuts, nearly all of the currently announced Apple Intelligence features will have arrived. Which iOS 18.2 AI features are you most excited for? Let us know in the comments.

18 New Things Your iPhone Can Do in iOS 18.2
Apple is set to release iOS 18.2 next month, bringing the second round of Apple Intelligence features to iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 models. This update brings several major advancements to Apple's AI integration, including completely new image generation tools and a range of Visual Intelligence-based enhancements. There are a handful of new non-AI related feature controls incoming as well. While not all advertised Apple Intelligence features will be available immediately, iOS 18.2 introduces several capabilities that aim to make your iPhone smarter and more intuitive. Below, we've listed 18 new things your iPhone will be able to do when the update rolls out in December. The link can be opened on a non-Apple device, so an iPhone or Mac is not required to provide someone with your item's location. Links expire after a week or when you're reunited with your lost item. More than 15 airlines will offer the feature, which will be integrated into each airline's customer service process for locating mishandled or delayed baggage, according to Apple. In addition to items equipped with an AirTag, the feature also works with third-party accessories and item trackers that support the Find My network. Thankfully, Apple is bringing the control back as an option in iOS 18.2. If you're already on the iOS 18.2 beta, you'll find a toggle in Settings ➝ Accessibility ➝ Audio & Visual, labeled "Always Show Volume Control". Enable the switch, and you'll be able to adjust volume from the Lock Screen without having to unlock your iPhone or use the physical volume buttons. In the latest beta, US users can access the Default App interface to choose their preferred Email, Call Filtering, Browser, and Passwords, and Keyboards. EU users should have more options for choosing non-Apple apps as their default, as they are able to delete core apps like Messages, App Store, Safari, Camera, and Photos. Important emails are grouped in a "Primary" category, while other types are categorized into three additional sections. The "Transactions" section streamlines access to receipts, orders, and shipping information, allowing you to quickly locate your purchases. Meanwhile, the "Updates" section gathers newsletters, appointment reminders, and various subscription emails, keeping you informed. Lastly, the "Promotions" category highlights special offers and promotional messages, to make sure you don't miss out on any deals. Additionally, you can include likenesses of friends and family by pulling images directly from your Photos app. While Image Playground functions as a standalone app, it can also be integrated into apps like Notes and Messages and added to third-party applications. While they function like emojis on Apple devices, they are not encoded characters from the Unicode Consortium. Instead, Apple developed a unique API for Genmoji, ensuring they display correctly in any application that supports rich text. You can generate a Genmoji by providing a description of your desired design, and you even have the option to create Genmoji that resemble individuals from your Photos library. For instance, you can open a lengthy PDF and ask Siri to summarize information on a specific topic; Siri can then pass this request to ChatGPT to generate a comprehensive summary. Apple envisions Siri as a facilitator for AI models and tools, optimizing available resources to provide you with answers without the need to switch between multiple apps. Additional capabilities of Visual Intelligence include reading text aloud, identifying phone numbers and addresses for adding to Contacts, copying text, and summarizing information. Users can also search Google to find where to purchase a specific item they see, and by pointing the camera at an object, they can access further information through ChatGPT. Apple intends to enhance this feature by introducing more functionalities in the future.

This Is When Your iPhone Will (Probably) Get Image Playground & ChatGPT Integration
New Apple Intelligence features in iOS 18.2, including Genmoji, Image Playground, Image Wand, and ChatGPT integration, will likely hit your iPhone on Monday, December 9. ✕ Remove Ads A press release from last month announcing the first wave of Apple Intelligence features said that additional AI capabilities "will be available in December." Apple hasn't provided an update regarding an iOS 18 release timeframe, but a new community notice from the British carrier EE gives us a good indication of when iOS 18 might release to the public. The message informs customers that EE will disable the iOS feature, allowing Wi-Fi calling on other supported iCloud-connected devices on December 9. Considering iOS 18.2 includes a new EE carrier setting which removes this feature, it can be inferred with a high degree of certainty that iOS 18.2 and related software updates will drop on December 9. ✕ Remove Ads Such leaks in the past accurately pinpointed iOS release dates, meaning we have no reason to doubt the veracity of this particular leak. iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2 will bring the second wave of Apple Intelligence capabilities to the masses, including AI image creation via the new Image Playground app. Another facet of it will be Genmoji, referring to the ability to create custom emoji characters with prompts. The new Image Wand feature in the Notes app can smartly convert rough sketches into compelling visuals. For example, you can sketch what looks like a circular or triangular object with your finger or Apple Pencil and use Image Wand to convert it to a precise circle or triangle. Don't feel like sketching? Just circle anything in the Notes app; Apple Intelligence will analyze the surrounding content to create an appropriate picture. ✕ Remove Ads Other noteworthy Apple Intelligence features arriving alongside iOS 18.2, and other updates include ChatGPT integration with Siri and enhanced Writing Tools, automatic mail categorization in the Mail app, and more. Exclusive to the iPhone 16 lineup, Visual Intelligence will bring Google Lens-like functionality where you point the camera at something to quickly pull related information from the web. ✕ Remove Ads iOS 18.2 will expand Apple Intelligence to other English-speaking locales beyond U.S. English, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. Apple Intelligence supports iPhone 16 Pros and newer and Apple silicon-powered Macs and iPads. You need at least four gigabytes of free storage space to use the latest AI features. "Storage requirements for on-device Apple Intelligence models will increase as more features roll out," notes Apple's support page. Aside from Apple Intelligence, iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2 bring other changes that will make using your iPhone, iPad, and Mac more enjoyable. For example, a new Default Apps section in Settings > Apps lets you easily change default apps for email, web browsing, calling, contactless transactions, and more. ✕ Remove Ads For iPhone 16 owners, iOS 18.2 brings additional options for the Camera Control capture button in Settings > Camera > Camera Control. Here, you can adjust the double-click speed, turn on the ability to lock auto exposure and auto focus by applying light pressure on the capture button, as well as require your iPhone's display to be on to launch a camera app with Camera Control. In the Camera app, Camera Control can now switch to the selfie camera. The Find My app lets you share the location of a lost AirTag or a third-party item tracker with others via a link. Apple has also partnered with major airlines to let you use this feature to help find your lost luggage. The progress of Safari downloads is now displayed on the lockscreen and in the Dynamic Island. Apple News+ subscribers in the U.S. can play daily sudoku puzzles in the News app. ✕ Remove Ads iOS 18.2 will also fix some of the annoyances plaguing earlier releases. For example, the volume slider in the Now Playing widget on the lockscreen has been reinstated after being removed in iOS 16, but you need to turn it on manually in Settings ➝ Accessibility ➝ Audio & Visual > Always Show Volume Control. Videos in the Photos app now play in fullscreen instead of playing zoomed-in with thick borders and requiring a tap to expand. And my personal favorite, the iPhone Mirroring feature now works when using your iPhone as a personal hotspot. When not at my writing station, I blog wherever I happen to be, including coffee shops and shopping malls. I use the Personal Hotspot feature to borrow my iPhone's cellular connection for my Mac and am glad Apple has fixed this because I can't be bothered to turn off the hotspot whenever I want to use iPhone Mirroring. ✕ Remove Ads For EU iPhone owners, iOS 18.2 allows them to delete additional built-in apps, including Safari, Camera, App Store, and Safari. As you can see for yourself, iOS 18.2 is another feature-packed update with more than two dozen new features for your iPhone. Source: MacRumors, EE

Other smaller details that have changed in iOS 18.2 beta include an AirDrop icon that switches to dark mode in the sharing menu, stricter device requirements being enforced for Apple Intelligence features. and fixes for issues affecting Precision Finding and "Play Sound" in the FInd My app. The iOS 18.2 beta is still ongoing, but fortunately members of the public don't have too long to wait before it arrives for real. Apple has confirmed that the stable version of iOS 18.2 will be arriving at some point in December, letting non-beta users take full advantage of all the new features it contains. We don't know exactly when in December this will happen, but it does mean all these new features will be with you before the end of the year.
