iOS 18.2 Public Beta 1 Brings More Apple Intelligence to Some iPhones
Apple software beta tester, "Helps make our computers and phones work!" - Zach's grandparents Apple released the first public beta of iOS 18.2 on Nov. 6. The beta arrives about a week after Apple released iOS 18.1 to the general public. iOS 18.1 brought a few new features and fixes to all iPhones, and a few Apple Intelligence features to others, the latest beta brings more AI features to some developers and beta testers. There are also a few new features in the beta that aren't a part of Apple Intelligence, so everyone can access them. Read more: An Expert's Guide to iOS 18 Since this is a beta, I recommend downloading it only on something other than your primary device. Because this isn't the final version of iOS 18.2, the update might be buggy and battery life may be short, so it's best to keep those troubles on a secondary device. Note that the beta is not the final version of iOS 18.2, so there could be more features to land on your iPhone when iOS 18.2 is released. There's no word on when Apple will release iOS 18.2 to the public yet. Here are some of the features that could land on your iPhone with iOS 18.2 soon. Just a reminder that only developers and beta testers who have an iPhone 15 Pro, Pro Max or the iPhone 16 lineup can access the AI features for now. If you have any other iPhone, you won't have access to those features. There are over 3,000 emoji you can use, but sometimes you can't find the one you really want. Genmoji is here to help. With the Apple Intelligence Genmoji feature, you can describe the emoji you're looking for and iPhones with Apple Intelligence will attempt to generate a new emoji based on your description. To use Genmoji, go into a message and tap the emoji keyboard in the bottom left corner of your keyboard. Then, type the emoji you're looking for into the search bar. If there isn't an emoji that matches your description, tap Create New Emoji just below the search bar. Your iPhone will then show you a few examples of what it came up with based on your description. You can swipe through the emoji, and when you find a Genmoji you like, tap Add in the top right corner to permanently add that new emoji to your keyboard. This is Apple's answer to Google Lens. Visual Intelligence is an Apple Intelligence feature that lets you point your camera at something, like a dog, and your iPhone will then use the photo to search online to help you identify it. The feature can also be used to detect phone numbers to create contacts, scan QR codes and translate languages. You can also integrate this feature with ChatGPT to help you identify items, as well as to help you better understand what's on a page or screen. It's important to note that you don't need a ChatGPT account to use the integration. This feature is also only available on the iPhone 16 lineup since it utilizes the series' new camera control side-button. If you have one of the new iPhones, long press the new side-button where the SIM card tray used to be to quickly pull up Visual Intelligence. "The camera control provides instant, easy access to the camera with just a click. It allows you to adjust various camera features simply by sliding your finger," Apple said at its "Glowtime" event in September. "Its convenient design ensures it's always within reach." This Apple Intelligence feature takes Genmoji one step further and lets you create whole images based on text prompts called Image Playground. This feature is a standalone app and it can also be found in Message by tapping the plus (+) button to the left of your text box. Image Playground is filled with prompt suggestions, themes, places and more to get you started. You can enter multiple prompts to make the image more specific, but once I entered seven prompts a popup appeared telling me to use fewer. There's also an option to change the art style from the default cartoony 3D images to illustrations. If you want to put yourself, friends and family or your pet into one of these images, you can. Tap the plus (+) sign in the bottom right corner and then tap either Choose Photo or Take Photo. You'll still have to choose or enter a prompt in addition to the photo. The feature can create some simple images, and it can be unintentionally funny with how weird other images are. In one instance, I selected the prompts astronaut, artist and lighthouse. One of the results showed what I can only describe as a half-stronaut propped up on an easel surrounded by frames opposite another easel with a drawing of a lighthouse on it. Stellar work. Read more: Apple Intelligence's New Notification Summary Feature Can Be Absurdly Wrong Apple announced at WWDC in May that its virtual assistant Siri was entering a "new era" soon thanks to Apple Intelligence enhancements. With the iOS 18.2 beta, Apple is bringing most of those enhancements to some iPhones. With Apple Intelligence, instead of seeing a logo pop up on your screen when you activate Siri, you'll see a glowing light around your screen. You can use Siri like you normally would, and you can also use ChatGPT for your queries. I asked Siri to use ChatGPT to show me how to brew a cup of coffee, and it wrote out a seven-step process on how to make drip coffee in a standard brewer. The instructions were a little wonky, telling me to measure out my water and coffee grounds before grinding my coffee beans. There is a disclaimer at the bottom of these ChatGPT requests, which reads, "Check important info for mistakes." You can also copy what Siri and ChatGPT show you by tapping a button in the top right corner of the window that shows two pieces of paper. Then, you can paste this in a message or a note if you want -- but again, you should verify the details of your request. Your Mail app also gets an upgrade in the iOS 18.2 beta. Apple announced in September that Mail would soon be able to sort emails to multiple categories to keep your important emails in one place and ads or promotions in another, like Gmail and Outlook do. The new layout keeps things mostly tidy, but Mail doesn't always get it right. For example, I found an email for digital tickets I previously ordered in the Promotions category rather than the Primary category. You don't have to use the new layout if you don't want to. To change your Mail layout back, go into Mail, tap the three dots (...) in the top right corner and tap List View. The Find My app can be used to locate things like your AirPods and MacBook, and with the iOS 18.2 beta, Apple makes it easy to get help finding lost items. In the beta, if you go into Find My > Items and tap one of your items, you have a new option to Share Item Location. If you enable this option, Find My will create a link that you can share with others so they can notify you if they find your lost or missing item. These links expire after one week, which may not be enough time to find missing them. There's also another option near Share Item Location called Show Contact Info. If you enable this feature, others can connect to lost items so they can find ways to contact you and bring your item back to you. Those are a few of the new features public beta testers can try with this iOS 18.2 public beta. There will likely be more betas before this version of the OS is released to the public, so there's plenty of time for Apple to change these features. As of now, there's no word on when Apple will release iOS 18.2 to the general public.

iOS 18.2 public beta is live -- here's the new Apple Intelligence features for your iPhone
Apple has officially rolled out the public beta for iOS 18.2, and with it comes a suite of exciting new Apple Intelligence features designed to enhance productivity, creativity and usability on your iPhone. While some features are already live, others, -- including Apple's innovative image tools -- come with a longer waitlist process. Here's what you need to know about the latest update. At the heart of iOS 18.2 is the deeper integration of Apple Intelligence, including a more conversational Siri, smarter app interactions, and tools that allow users to create, manage, and personalize content more efficiently. One standout feature is the seamless integration of ChatGPT into Siri, enabling the assistant to tackle more complex questions, generate content and manage tasks with greater contextual understanding. Whether drafting emails, brainstorming ideas, or organizing your schedule, Siri's expanded intelligence makes multitasking smoother than ever. The iOS 18.2 public beta also introduces several cutting-edge tools that elevate the iPhone's functionality. However, keep in mind that some features are waitlisted for now. Visual Intelligence takes Apple's existing camera and Photos app to the next level. With this feature on the iPhone 16 series using the Camera Control button, users can snap pictures of objects, meals or locations, and receive detailed contextual information. For example, you can capture an image of a dish, and Visual Intelligence will provide calorie estimates, nutritional information and even recipes. The public iOS 18.2 beta also builds on the Siri-ChatGPT collaboration introduced in earlier iterations of iOS 18. Siri can now leverage ChatGPT's capabilities for answering questions, getting advice, generating images and more. Additionally, the new feature offers ChatGPT Plus integration, which allows paid subscribers to access advanced functionalities directly through iOS Settings, including higher usage limits and faster response times. Users can upgrade through Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > ChatGPT. One of the most talked-about additions to iOS 18.2 is Image Playground, which is Apple's AI-powered creative suite for photo editing and manipulation. This feature allows users to apply artistic styles to photos, generate unique visuals from scratch using text prompts, and refine existing images with AI-powered enhancements. While similar to popular tools like MidJourney, Image Playground has its own iOS app. Genmoji expands upon the popular Memoji feature with a tool that uses AI to generate highly personalized, lifelike avatars. You can tweak them to represent a wider range of expressions, emotions and even outfits, making them a fun addition to messaging and texts. To access the latest features, simply install the update on your iPhone by going to Settings>General>Software Update. From there, tap the Beta Updates option and select iOS 18.2 public beta. After visiting the Software Update page and waiting for the download to appear, you will need to agree to Apple terms and then initiate the download. Keep in mind that beta software may have bugs, so it's best to back up your device before updating. While the beta offers plenty to explore, some highly anticipated features remain unavailable to the general public including those which fall under the "Image Creation" features. Current waitlisted features include Image Wand, Image Playground and Genmoji. To join the waitlist, install the iOS 18.2 beta. After updating, you'll notice a new Image Playground app within your App Library. Open the app and request to be added to the waitlist. Similarly, the Genmoji feature in the emoji keyboard will allow you to submit your request for access. After applying, you'll be placed on a waitlist, with wait times potentially extending several weeks. iOS 18.2 marks a significant step forward in Apple's AI ambitions. By embedding advanced tools like Image Playground, Genmoji and ChatGPT-enhanced Siri, Apple is making AI more accessible and useful for everyday use. Stay tuned for our hands-on impressions of all the new Apple Intelligence features.

Here Are the 10 iOS 18.2 Features We're Most Excited About
The iOS 18.2 beta has a ton of awesome features you can try right now, like the Image Playground app and upgraded writing tools. The biggest complaint people had with the new iPhone 16 lineup was that it lacked the very feature that had been most heavily marketed: Apple Intelligence. When it came to upgrades, it quickly became apparent that the new phones were essentially vessels for Apple to showcase its slate of new AI features. Given that, it was especially ironic to be told we’d have to wait a few months for those features. They’ve finally started rolling out, as seen with the iOS 18.1 release a few weeks ago. Now, iOS 18.2 is out in beta and is expected to become available to the public sometime in December. Here are some features that caught our attention from the long, long list. This iOS version is big on generative art. With a new Image Playground app, you can create custom images based on text prompts that you enter. While similar to any online AI image generator, this feature is integrated into your iPhone and is free to use. Additionally, with Image Wand, you can now supplement your memos on the Notes app with images. The ability to create custom emojis, Genmojis, gained quite a lot of hype during WWDC when the feature was announced. It's finally becoming available on this iOS version. This will work the same way as Image Playground: you'll enter a text prompt and have it convert to an emoji. iOS vehicle motion cues are coming to the dynamic island. Honestly, this is the feature I'm most looking forward to since I suffer from extreme motion sickness. Motion cues is not a new feature (it was introduced with iOS 18), but integrating them on the dynamic island is. Using your phone during a car ride worsens the sickness, so this feature will ensure I can easily navigate on Google Maps as long as I have the dynamic island at the top of the screen in my peripheral vision. With iOS 18.2, when you connect your iPhone to a Mac via hotspot, it will automatically mirror your phone, too. Previously, hotspot didn't have mirroring capabilities, so this will be a nice bonus feature. Another great news is that you can finally talk to Siri like a human instead of typing to it. Siri going multimodal (accepting multiple input ways) makes me happy because it doesn't work well with all sorts of accents. It would have made me more happy if Apple had worked on being more inclusive instead, but I'll take what I'm getting for now. This is old news, but Apple Intelligence is also making Siri less dumb by integrating ChatGPT directly into it. This means all your queries will be passed onto the AI assistant now without requiring you to sign up for an OpenAI account. The ChatGPT-Siri integration also means your results will include images in addition to text. The new volume limit feature will be incredibly useful in quiet, public spaces where you wish you didn't accidentally blare out a loud video or song on your phone. On iOS 18.2, you'd be able to set a maximum volume limit for how loud your iPhone can play songs, media, or other content via the speaker. Thankfully, this won't apply to reminders, calls, and alarms. You know how your iPhone sometimes asks you about your browser preference for opening a link? And you have to enter a preference each time? With iOS 18.2, you'd be able to go into a new Default Apps section in Settings and set preferences for Email, Messaging, Calling, Browser, and so on. It will make a note of all your choices so you don't have to tell it repeatedly. I like that the EU is slowly teaching Apple that it can't have its strange rules about everything and needs to comply with a universal standard. This Cupertino giant really needs to be humbled in multiple areas. First, it mandated a universal Type-C charging standard for Apple, and now it ensures that users can delete core apps such as the App Store, Safari, Messages, Camera, and Photos. However, the core app feature is currently exclusive to the EU. We hope it rolls out worldwide soon. The new iPhone 16 is getting a Google Lens-like visual intelligence feature that will allow you to point your iPhone at any object and have it describe it to you. Long pressing the camera control button will activate the feature, after which you simply have to point your iPhone at the object of your choice. Interestingly, if you point at a restaurant, it will read out its reviews and opening hours to you. Apple Intelligence's much-touted writing tools were already rolled out with iOS 18.1, but the second-gen software is adding more styles and tones. Currently, the tools are limited to just three styles. Apple hasn't announced when it plans to release iOS 18.2 to the public. All we know is that it'll be in December. The great thing about this release is that unlike iOS 18.1, Apple Intelligence supports more than just U.S. English on 18.2. It now covers English in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK. However, it's still only limited to one language, which I'm hoping changes soon.

iOS 18.2: Apple Intelligence Will Make Your iPhone Even Smarter!
Apple's iOS 18.2 update introduces a range of advanced features aimed at enhancing your iPhone's functionality and user experience. With a strong focus on personalization and artificial intelligence, this update is set to transform the way you interact with your device, making it smarter, more intuitive, and more responsive to your needs. At the forefront of this update is the Image Playground feature, which allows you to create and modify images by simply describing them. This powerful tool serves as a creative outlet, allowing you to personalize images to fit your specific needs and preferences. Whether you're an artist looking to bring your ideas to life or just someone who wants to add a personal touch to their photos, Image Playground offers limitless possibilities for self-expression and creativity. In the realm of communication, Gen Emoji takes personalization to new heights. With this feature, you can now craft custom emojis directly within the messaging app, allowing you to express yourself more creatively and add a unique flair to your conversations. This not only makes your messages more engaging but also helps you convey your emotions and thoughts more effectively. For those who enjoy sketching, the Magic Wand Tool in the Notes app is truly transformative. This tool intelligently refines your sketches into polished, professional-looking images, making it easier than ever to share your ideas and concepts with friends, colleagues, or clients. Whether you're brainstorming a new project or simply doodling for fun, the Magic Wand Tool ensures that your sketches look their best. Siri, Apple's beloved digital assistant, sees a major enhancement with the integration of Chat GPT. This upgrade significantly improves the quality and relevance of Siri's responses to your queries, making it a more reliable and helpful companion. Additionally, Siri now offers writing assistance, helping you compose emails, messages, and documents with greater ease and efficiency. While some of the more advanced features may require a subscription, the basic enhancements are available to all users, ensuring that everyone can benefit from Siri's improved capabilities. Looking to the future, Apple is exploring the potential of Onscreen Awareness, a feature that could further enhance your iPhone's ability to understand and respond to the content displayed on your screen. By analyzing and interpreting the information presented, Onscreen Awareness promises to make your device even more intuitive and attuned to your needs, streamlining your interactions and improving overall usability. The global rollout of iOS 18.2 ensures that these groundbreaking features are accessible to users in a growing number of countries, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. Apple remains committed to expanding the availability of these innovations, with plans to bring them to an even broader audience in the near future. As we look ahead, future updates like iOS 18.3 and 18.4 are expected to bring additional improvements and refinements to Siri and Apple Intelligence. These updates will focus on further enhancing the capabilities of your digital assistant, ensuring that your iPhone continues to evolve and stay at the forefront of innovative technology. iOS 18.2 marks a significant milestone in Apple's ongoing mission to make your iPhone smarter, more personalized, and more attuned to your needs. With features like Image Playground, Gen Emoji, and Chat GPT Integration, Apple continues to push the boundaries of what your device can do, offering a more engaging, intuitive, and empowering user experience. As these features continue to evolve and expand, your iPhone will become an even more indispensable tool for creativity, communication, and exploration. The inclusion of company icons alongside emails further enhances the visual identification of senders, saving time and effort in managing correspondence. Under the hood, iOS 18.2 beta 2 brings notable performance improvements, ensuring a smoother and more responsive user experience. Users can expect better battery life compared to the previous beta, thanks to optimizations and enhancements in power management. These improvements contribute to a more efficient and enjoyable interaction with Apple devices, allowing users to accomplish more without compromising on performance or battery longevity. As the iOS 18.2 beta cycle progresses, users can anticipate the release of beta 3 in the near future, potentially following a weekly release schedule. Each subsequent beta is expected to bring further refinements, bug fixes, and additional features, building upon the solid foundation established by beta 2. iOS 18.2 public beta is now available, here's everything new - 9to5Mac
Apple has released the first public beta for iOS 18.2, bringing new Apple Intelligence features to iPhone users. Some of the highlights include the highly anticipated Genmoji and ChatGPT integration. Here's everything that's new. Apple's Beta Software Program is free and open to anyone with an Apple product. You can sign up for it here. After joining the program, you'll be able to install public beta releases on your devices. If you have installed previous public betas, there's no need to re-join. All you have to do is open Settings ⇾ Software Update on your device to find iOS 18.2 ready for download. iOS 18.2 is a huge release for iPhone users, especially in the area of Apple Intelligence features. Some of the most powerful AI features are included in this release, such as: An important PSA: the image generation features currently use a waitlist, so it may take a little time before you gain access. But the sooner you join the waitlist, the better. This release also adds localized English for Apple Intelligence in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK. Apple Intelligence brought a lot of new capabilities to iOS 18.1, but its additions in iOS 18.2 truly make the iPhone feel more like an AI powerhouse. There's more. The iOS 18.2 public beta also includes a variety of enhancements beyond Apple Intelligence. So if you don't have an AI-compatible iPhone, you still get the following: If you're interested in iOS 18.2 but don't want to risk dealing with bugs or performance issues on the beta, the public launch isn't too far off. Apple launches iOS 18.2 beta 2 -- here's the new Apple Intelligence features for your iPhone
Today, Apple is launching the next iteration of the iOS 18.2 developer beta, which brings many new Apple Intelligence features to its devices. There isn't anything new in this iOS 18.2 beta, as we already knew what was coming with the latest operating system update. However, it does improve the features and introduces a wait list to access the image generation tools in Apple Intelligence. One difference is that anyone with an iPhone capable of running iOS 18 can access the beta. However, Apple Intelligence is still limited to the iPhone 16 series and the iPhone 15 Pro models. If you didn't sign up for beta 1, here are Apple Intelligence tools coming with iOS 18.2: Outside of Apple Intelligence features, iOS 18.2 introduces some new tools for everyone, including a redesigned Mail app. That said, not everyone will get access to the image generation features immediately. According to Mac Rumors, there is a waitlist for early access to Apple Intelligence image generation apps like Image Playground. Apple is supposed to roll out access to the AI tool over the next few weeks. Currently, the betas are limited to developers, with a public version presumably launching between now and December. It is also only available in localized English in the United States, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Ireland. Apple is using this round to test the image generation features available in Genmoji, Image Playground and Image Wand, which will determine when the public beta launches. You will need an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max or any iPhone 16 model to access the Apple Intelligence features. The complete iOS 18.2 update should arrive in December along with the iPadOS 18.2, macOS 15.2, watchOS 11.2, tvOS 18.2 and visionOS 2.2 updates.

iOS 18.2 Public Beta 1 Update Rolling Out Now: Here's What's New
The update also expands Apple Intelligence availability to more locales Apple rolled out the iOS 18.2 Public Beta 1 update for iPhone on Tuesday. It arrives almost two weeks after the developer beta was released. The latest update expands the range of features on offer powered by Apple Intelligence -- the company's artificial intelligence (AI) suite. This includes Image Playground, Genmoji, ChatGPT integration in Siri and other additions. It also bundles several Camera Control-related features exclusive to Apple's latest iPhone 16 series. Apple previewed a host of AI additions at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 in June, but only a handful of them were released. Image Playground and ChatGPT integration in Siri were announced as the most anticipated features but both of them remained eluded from Apple's public beta updates, until now. iOS 18.2 Public Beta 1 adds the Image Playground -- a standalone app which lets users create AI images based on descriptive prompts leveraging generative AI. They can select a reference person from their Photos app for inspiration and can choose from different art styles. The app also bundles the Genmoji feature which does everything as Image Playground but for creating custom emojis. Apple says the created images can be shared in apps such as Messages, Notes, and Keynote. Another notable addition is the Image Wand feature which can transform a rough sketch into a related image in the Notes app using Apple Intelligence. Apart from features related to image and emoji creation, another notable highlight of the iOS 18.2 Public Beta 1 is the integration of ChatGPT to Siri. iPhone users can now take advantage of OpenAI's large language model (LLM) to receive more in-depth responses to queries and insights about photos and documents from Siri -- Apple's voice assistant. ChatGPT also becomes a part of writing tools in the Apple Intelligence suite. It can now alter text even further based on textual prompts or compose a new one altogether by analysing what the user has previously written. Apple says using ChatGPT as part of Siri on iPhone requires optional sign-in. iPhone users with a paid ChatGPT account can use their account to get access to more powerful OpenAI models without any daily limits. For iPhone 16 users, the Camera Control button gets additional capabilities courtesy of Visual Intelligence. It is said to be Apple's own version of Google Lens, allowing users to point the camera viewfinder towards an object search for it on the web or ask ChatGPT for more information. Other features of the update include a revamped email app with an on-device categorisation system and the expanded availability of Apple Intelligence to more English-speaking locales such as English (Australia), English (Canada) and English (New Zealand).

Apple iOS 18.2 public beta arrives with new AI features, but some remain waitlisted | TechCrunch
Apple has released the AI-powered version of its latest mobile operating system, iOS 18.2, to its public beta users. The update includes new features like an AI emoji generator app called Genmoji, an Image Playground AI image app, ChatGPT integration with Siri, and visual search using the iPhone 16 cameras, among other things. Previously, these features were only available to developers. Though consumers can now get in line to try out the new AI features, there is a caveat to be aware of: some of them will require joining a waitlist for access. Collectively, the AI features and tools coming to the new iPhone 16 and other supported devices are known as Apple Intelligence, which can be cleverly abbreviated as "AI" for short. The large language model-driven technologies promise users a smarter Siri, writing and proofreading assistance across apps, and image generation capabilities, among other things. Third-party developers will also be able to take advantage of Apple Intelligence features in their own apps -- something that could ultimately prove to be Apple Intelligence's most useful offering, if widely adopted. For instance, users could ask Siri to show them information from inside their apps ,or take action on something that appears on their screen. At Apple's developer conference in June, the company said its AI technology would first be made available to specific categories of apps, including Books, Browsers, Cameras, Document readers, File management, Journals, Mail, Photos, Presentations, Spreadsheets, Whiteboards, and Word processors. In the meantime, users will most likely want to try the features involving ChatGPT and image creation. Image Playground introduces a standalone image-generation app where you can create new images via prompts. Genmoji offers a similar system for creating custom emojis. And Image Wand will be able to transform your rough sketches in your notes into AI-generated images. With Siri, users can enable a new ChatGPT extension that gives Apple's virtual assistant an expanded set of capabilities. For instance, you'll be able to ask ChatGPT to help you write text, answer questions, create images, and more. If signed in, it can keep a history of your requests, too. Paid subscribers will also be able to use ChatGPT's advanced capabilities their membership provides -- a mutually beneficial deal for the companies where ChatGPT gets massive exposure via the iPhone installed base, while Apple gets a smarter Siri. iPhone 16 users can also press the new Camera Control button to launch Visual Intelligence, a way to search and identify real-world objects and places through the camera lens. Unfortunately for those who were itching to try Apple Intelligence, a waitlist for some features is still required. Apple Intelligence has to first be enabled (as it's not turned on by default), then users will have to sign up for other image creation features before access is granted. Apple has not said how long users will have to wait before gaining access, but it could be days or even weeks during this beta period. In part, that's due to AI safety concerns -- already, users are designing NSFW emoji with Genmoji, for example -- but it also gives Apple time to safely scale the features to its users. Ahead of the iOS 18.2 release, Apple launched AI features including Writing Tools and notification summaries powered by Apple Intelligence in iOS 18.1 as well as debuted the new look for Siri, where the edges of the screen glow. Alongside the iOS 18.2 beta, Apple also released the first public betas of iPadOS 18.2, macOS Sequoia 15.2and tvS 18.2.

Apple has seen fit to release its latest iOS 18.2 beta update for the iPhone, which comes with extended Apple Intelligence functionality. We are anxiously waiting for ChatGPT support on the iPhone, which will extend Siri's capabilities beyond its devised knowledge base. It will be able to handle complex queries regarding anything that Siri is not capable of. However, iOS 18.2 will also lack some features, such as Siri's ability to understand personal context, but it will be added later on. If you are a developer, iOS 18.2 beta 2 can be downloaded through the Settings app on your iPhone. All you have to do is head over to General > Software Updates > Beta Updates and install the build by following the on-screen instructions. However, you have to note that your Apple ID should be connected to your Developer Account to receive the update over the air. The beta is oriented towards developers at this stage, which means that the general public will not be able to download it. While the new Writing Tools are available for everyone, the company will also enhance them for more personalized utilities. We will be covering all the features in extensive detail, so be sure to stick around. All you need to do is sign up on Apple's Beta Software Program website and you'll be on your way to becoming a beta tester from the comfort of your couch. You're probably aware that the iOS 18.2 beta has been available to developers since July. Not everyone wants to run the developer beta because it's for developers and is usually less stable than a public beta. Ultimately, both beta versions are not as stable as the general public iOS 18.2 release. iOS 18, which is available to everyone, brings several new major features and overhauls to the iPhone, including a completely redesigned photo album, text messages via satellite, a dedicated app for passwords, better customization for your home screen, an overhauled control center and support for RCS messaging. Here's everything you need to know about downloading the iOS 18.2 public beta on your iPhone. Visual Intelligence is exclusive to the iPhone 16 series. You can still get your hands on other non-AI features though. Here's the full list of iPhones that support iOS 18.2 A public beta is typically more stable than a developer beta, but it's still a beta, which means you may deal with bugs and other critical issues that could negatively affect your phone. If you have a spare iPhone in your drawer somewhere, use that to run any iOS 18.2 beta, whether it's the developer or public version. In my personal experience, it's usually fine to run a public beta on your main phone. You may encounter a bug here and there, maybe a function in a third-party app doesn't work exactly as intended because it's not yet optimized for any iOS beta software. It's never crippling, just maybe a little bit annoying, and if you don't mind that, running the iOS 18.2 public beta on the iPhone you use every day shouldn't be a big deal. Also, before you think of updating to iOS 18.2, first update to the latest iOS 18 version (currently 18.1) and then back up your device. Go to Settings > your name > iCloud > iCloud Backup and hit Back Up Now. You should check out our story on how to archive a backup on your computer in case you want to revert to iOS 18. Now that you've backed up your phone, you can download the iOS 18.2 public beta. Here's what you need to do: 1. On your iPhone, go to the Apple Beta Software Program website and sign in (if you're already a member) or sign up for the program. You need an Apple ID of course. If you're signing up for the first time, follow the prompts. 2. Next, tap the iOS tab and you should see more information about the iOS 18.2 public beta. Once your phone reboots, you should be running the iOS 18.2 public beta.

While this is a more stable build than the previously released developer beta 1, these are still betas, meaning bugs, slowdowns, and speedbumps are to be expected. The updates also add new language support to Apple Intelligence, with the AI now working in English (Australia), English (Canada), English (New Zealand), English (South Africa), and English (UK). iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2 add huge upgrades to your iPhone, iPad, and Mac, so much so that this update almost feels more significant than iOS 18's launch in September. These new features include Genmoji, Apple's generative AI emoji tool that allows you to create custom emojis on the fly. The public betas also include Image Playground, Apple's answer to the best AI image generators. In our brief testing of these new Apple Intelligence image tools, we've found them to be very fun and easy to use, perfect for an introduction to AI. Installing iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, or macOS Sequoia 15.2 also gives you access to Siri's new ChatGPT integration, allowing you to ask OpenAI's chatbot questions directly from inside Apple's voice assistant. It's worth noting that this is entirely opt-in, and Siri will flag when ChatGPT is answering a request. ChatGPT integration only appears to work for US English devices at the time of writing. And, for iPhone 16 owners, Visual Intelligence finally arrives on your shiny new smartphone in the iOS 18.2 public beta. The exclusive Apple Intelligence feature can be accessed by pressing and holding Camera Control and allows you to take a picture of anything you see and let Apple Intelligence do the searching for you, similar to Google Lens.

New in iOS 18.2 developer beta 2: More settings for ChatGPT and Camera Control
iOS 18.2 has received its second developer beta, as Apple Intelligence testing continues. Here's everything you need to know about the software update and the changes it includes. On Monday, Apple released iOS 18.2 developer beta 2, which brings iOS 18.2 to iPhone models as old as the iPhone XR and iPhone XS. The first developer beta, released two weeks prior, was only intended for Apple Intelligence testing and was thus only compatible with the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 16 range. As a whole, iOS 18.2 introduces support for a variety of Apple Intelligence features, including Image Playground, Genmoji, and Visual Intelligence on the iPhone 16. ChatGPT integration with Siri and Writing Tools is also a part of the update, and Monday's developer beta expands upon many of these features with new settings and splash screens. The second developer beta of iOS 18.2 introduces additional options for ChatGPT-powered features, building upon the previous developer beta which brought ChatGPT integration to iOS. Starting with iOS 18.2, Siri can forward questions and requests to ChatGPT. The software can help users with things such as text creation in Writing Tools, as well as image generation. New splash screens have been added to inform users of ChatGPT-enabled features and their benefits. While basic ChatGPT functionality is available at any time, and at no cost, iOS 18.2 only offers advanced ChatGPT capabilities in a limited capacity. With Monday's developer beta, users will now be able to see whether or not they've exceeded the daily limit for ChatGPT's advanced capabilities. Once the advanced capability limit has been passed, additional requests are sent to the basic version of ChatGPT for up to 24 hours. Those who want even more now have the option to upgrade to ChatGPT Plus for $19.99 a month, straight from the Settings app. It's worth pointing out that ChatGPT integration is only available for devices that already support Apple Intelligence, such as the iPhone 16 range. With its latest iOS 18.2 beta, Apple has also included new settings specific to these devices. Monday's iOS 18.2 developer beta introduces additional settings for the Camera Control, which was introduced with the iPhone 16 range. The Camera Control is an entirely new hardware component, a button with a capacitive surface and a force sensor. iOS 18.2 developer beta 2 now lets users adjust the double-click speed for Camera Control. Apart from the "Default" option, the double-click speed can be set to "Slow" or "Slower." The software update also adds a new "AE/AF Lock" option, which locks the exposure and focus when taking a photo. The Camera Control can be configured to toggle AE/AF Lock with a light press. This means that the exposure stays consistent and that the image won't darken, even when the iPhone is moved around. FindMy has received a significant update with Monday's developer beta, as the software now lets users share the location of lost items with people they trust. When an AirTag or other item is lost, users can opt to share the location of the item with a trusted individual or even an airline, all so that the lost item can be more easily recovered. This could be particularly useful for lost luggage, though FindMy-equipped devices have also helped authorities locate stolen vehicles in some instances. The lost item's location is shared in the form of a link. The link recipient will be able to see the AirTag's location, serial number, and the user's Apple Account email or phone number for a limited amount of time. Location sharing is automatically stopped once the item is found, or when the link to the item's location expires. While Monday's developer beta features different enhancements for the Camera Control, ChatGPT, and FindMy, it also includes a significant change specifically affecting Utah residents aged 17 or under. Utah requires that mobile devices such as the iPhone and iPad include an automatically-enabled web content filter, which limits websites with adult content. This serves to protect minors and prevents them from accessing harmful and inappropriate content on the web. The second developer beta of iOS 18.2 ensures compliance with this requirement, as the filter is on by default for Utah residents below the age of 18. Note that the web content filter is not automatically enabled in other states, countries, and regions where it is not required by law. iOS 18.2 also received a minor aesthetic change with Monday's developer beta, which affects the icons in Settings. When Dark Mode is enabled, icons in the Settings app now have a distinct gray border. The new icon outlines allow for increased contrast within the application. Various quality-of-life improvements for existing device features are present within the operating system as well, with the latest iOS 18.2 bringing better battery life, according to Apple's release notes. Certain system applications and features have also received minor updates: None of these changes are particularly significant, given that they largely build upon existing applications and their features. Apple already added support for image generation with the first iOS 18.2 developer beta, while app badges have been available since the early days of iOS. The visionOS 2.2 developer beta, on the other hand, includes a major improvement to the Mac Virtual Display feature. While the Apple Vision Pro was always usable as an external display for Mac, there are now two new display modes: Ultrawide and Wide. According to Apple, the new Ultrawide setting is the equivalent of connecting two 4K monitors to a Mac and using them side-by-side. The new Wide and Ultrawide views were already announced by Apple, so their arrival was inevitable, but a welcome change nonetheless. The Apple Vision Pro still lacks Apple Intelligence, though, meaning that its users won't be able to take advantage of the various AI features available on other Apple platforms. Although some Apple Intelligence features are already here, such as email summarization and the Clean Up tool in Photos, a good chunk of them are still only available in developer beta builds. iOS 18.2 is expected to receive its final public release in early December 2024, which is when features like Image Playground and Visual Intelligence will become available to all users.

Apple To Release iOS 18.2 Update Earlier Than Expected, As The Company Desperately Wants Apple Intelligence To Make A Difference On The iPhone
Apple released iOS 18.1 with Apple Intelligence last week for all compatible iPhone models, but the update still feels short of a few features. While Apple has introduced its highly anticipated AI features to the mix, the platform still feels a bit empty, and to tackle this situation, the company could be working to release the iOS 18.2 update a bit earlier than expected. iOS 18.2 will be a significant update, considering the number of features it will bring to the iPhone 15 Pro models and the latest iPhone 16 lineup. In his latest Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg claims that Apple is looking to release the iOS 18.2 update for the iPhone with major Apple Intelligence upgrades in the first week of December. The release time frame is online with Apple's own schedule, as it has already confirmed that the update will arrive at some point in December. While the company did not mention any exact release time frame, we now know when users should expect the update. As mentioned, the iOS 18.2 release will come with a handful of new Apple Intelligence features and extensions for existing features. Some of the features include Genmoji for generating custom emojis, Image Playground for generating custom images, and Image Wand to transform doodling into an image in the Notes app. While these new additions are great, what we are most excited about is the company's ChatGPT integration with Siri, which has been in the works for a while and is also available to developers for testing purposes. While Siri would continue to exist on the iPhone and other Apple products, ChatGPT integration would allow the system to handle complex queries. iOS 18.2 update will also bring a handful of additional features, including support for localized English in the UK, South Africa, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand for Apple Intelligence. Other than the new AI features, iOS 18.2 will also add a new Default Apps section in Settings app and Apple News+ features. We will let you know when the update is available, so be sure to stick around.

Your iPhone's next iOS 18.2 update may come earlier than usual - with these AI features
iOS 18.2 - which includes major improvements to Apple Intelligence, will arrive sooner than you think, barring any unexpected delays. Apple has been touting its Apple Intelligence as the spark to finally bring artificial intelligence (AI) to the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. But the technology is being doled out in dribs and drabs with each new update. iOS 18.1 already added a few AI tidbits to the iPhone. Now iOS 18.2 is set to deliver more AI capabilities, possibly as soon as early December. In the latest edition of the Apple-focused Power On Newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman revealed that the next iOS update is set to arrive on the early side of December. But how early? Also: Can't find Apple's AI features after upgrading to iOS 18.1? Do this Gurman said he was told that it should pop up during the week of December 2, barring any unexpected delays. Though Gurman mentioned, iOS 18 and iOS 18.1 were released on a Monday during the first week of December. That could mean we'll see 18.2 as soon as Monday, December 2. Apple has said only that the next round of Apple Intelligence tools will arrive in December. Whatever the date, iPadOS and macOS should also receive the latest updates around the same time. On October 28, iOS 18.1 unveiled the first batch of Apple Intelligence features. Siri has a new look, a more natural and conversational style, and an awareness of your device to help you with specific tasks. Now, writing tools try to help you fine-tune your emails, messages, and notes and provide summaries of emails, documents, and web pages. Also: Every iPhone model that supports Apple's AI features (including the new Siri) An update to the Photos app lets you use natural language to find specific photos. Other features include notification summaries, phone calls, note recording and summaries, and priority messages in your inbox. What will iOS 18.2 bring in terms of AI skills? ChatGPT will finally be integrated into the operating system, so you'll be able to ask OpenAI's AI chatbot for assistance if Siri can't handle your request. An Image Playground app will help you design your own animated, illustrated, and sketched images to use and share across Messages, Notes, and other apps. A new Genmoji option will tap into AI to generate emojis based on your descriptions. An image wand will try to turn your rough sketches into full-flown images. You'll also be able to create an image in an empty spot based on any text and other content from the surrounding area. Plus, Visual Intelligence will provide details of nearby landmarks and other items as you view them with the camera. Also: Apple will pay you up to $1 million if you can hack into Apple Intelligence servers There's more in store for Apple Intelligence beyond iOS 18.2. With iOS 18.3 likely to be a minor update, iOS 18.4 will add more AI features, especially ones that affect Siri. For example, Siri is supposed to acquire on-screen awareness to answer questions and handle tasks based on your current screen activity. It should also be able to access and analyze your data to further help with specific actions. Gurman noted future features include integration with Google Gemini. However, that likely won't happen until next year since Apple wants to give OpenAI a healthy period of exclusivity.

Next Big Apple Intelligence Upgrade Expected on Dec. 2
"The iOS 18.2 operating system update... is likely to arrive on the earlier side of December, I'm told," Mark Gurman writes in his PowerOn newsletter. He's eyeing the week of Dec. 2, which is about a week earlier than is typical for these updates. Apple's iOS 17.2 launched on Dec. 11, and iOS 16.2 came out on Dec. 13, 9to5Mac notes. Per Gurman, the update will feature ChatGPT integration. Apple users can tap into OpenAI's chatbot when writing texts and emails on newer iPhones, iPads, or MacBooks, and Siri can direct questions to ChatGPT with the user's permission. ChatGPT Plus users can also connect their accounts and access paid features There's a chance that Google Gemini may show up on Apple Intelligence eventually, but Gurman doesn't expect it until 2025 to give ChatGPT some time in the spotlight. Also on tap for iOS 18.2 is the Image Playground app, and Genmoji, Apple's build-it-yourself AI-generated emoji. The Image Playground app will allow users to create AI images in three styles: Animation, Illustration, or Sketch. An Apple Intelligence EU launch is expected with iOS 18.4 in April; it's been delayed there due to the Digital Markets Act, Apple says. We went hands-on with iOS 18.1 and the first wave of Apple Intelligence additions, which included Writing Tools, smart replies in Mail and Messages, natural language search in Photos, and notification summaries. There were also updates to Siri that made it a little bit better at the stuff it was already doing. A bigger Siri update is expected with iOS 18.4.

Exploring iOS 18.2: Image Playground, Genmoji & New Features
Apple's latest iOS 18.2 beta release introduces a suite of groundbreaking features designed to unleash users' creativity and enhance their interactive experiences through the power of advanced artificial intelligence. At the forefront of this update are three standout tools: Image Playground, Genmoji, and the Image Wand. Each of these innovations offers unique capabilities for generating and customizing images and emojis, empowering users to express themselves in new and exciting ways. Image Playground: Bringing Your Imagination to Life Image Playground is an innovative app that allows users to create stunning visuals based on their own prompts. With an extensive library of themes, costumes, and accessories at your fingertips, the possibilities for image generation and customization are virtually endless. Whether you want to craft a breathtaking fantasy landscape or design a futuristic cityscape, Image Playground makes it possible with just a few descriptive words. While the app is currently in beta, which may result in some limitations in prompt recognition, it represents a significant advancement in AI-driven creativity. As the technology continues to evolve, users can expect even more accurate and diverse image generation capabilities. Genmoji transforms emoji creation within messaging apps, allowing users to craft personalized emojis that reflect their individual style. By using descriptive prompts, you can generate emojis that accurately represent your emotions and ideas, adding a new level of depth to your digital conversations. Although these custom emojis appear as images on devices not running iOS, they significantly enhance user interaction by allowing for more expressive and tailored communication. With Genmoji, you can say goodbye to generic emojis and hello to a world of personalized visual messaging. Image Wand: Elevating Your Visual Content Integrated seamlessly into the Notes app, the Image Wand provides a powerful set of tools for drawing and generating images. Whether you prefer to draw freehand or describe an image using text, this feature produces enhanced visuals that can elevate your content to new heights. The Image Wand is particularly valuable for artists, designers, and anyone creating presentations or visual aids. With its ability to generate high-quality images from sketches or descriptions, this tool showcases Apple's commitment to providing innovative digital art solutions for both professional and casual users alike. Shaping the Future of AI-Driven Creativity While the new features introduced in iOS 18.2 beta are still in the testing phase, they offer a glimpse into the promising future of AI-driven creativity tools. As users explore and provide feedback on these innovations, Apple can refine and optimize them to better align with user needs and expectations. The potential impact of tools like Image Playground, Genmoji, and the Image Wand extends far beyond simple image creation. They represent a significant step forward in empowering users to express themselves more creatively and engage with others on a deeper level. As these features continue to evolve and improve, they have the potential to transform the way we communicate and create digital content. Summary iOS 18.2 beta marks an exciting milestone in Apple's ongoing mission to nurture creativity and enhance user experiences through innovative technology. By putting powerful image creation tools directly into the hands of users, Apple is democratizing the creative process and allowing individuals to bring their unique visions to life. As we eagerly await the final release of iOS 18.2, it is clear that Apple remains committed to pushing the boundaries of what is possible with AI-driven tools. Apple Could Release iOS 18.2 Update for iPhone Earlier Than Anticipated
Apple is speculated to release the iOS 18.4 update in April next year Apple introduced the iOS 18.1 update last week that brought Apple Intelligence, the company's suite of artificial intelligence (AI) features, to iPhone and other devices. Now, a report suggests that the next batch of Apple Intelligence features, including ChatGPT integration in Siri and a new Image Playground app, will arrive with the iOS 18.2 update for iPhone earlier than expected. The release timeline of other iOS 18 updates, along with the improvements they might carry, has also been suggested. Apple has previously confirmed that the iOS 18.2 update with more Apple Intelligence features would be released in December. Release trends of similar past updates suggest it could take place in the second week of the month. However in his Power on newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman claimed that iOS 18.2's release could take place earlier than scheduled. It could be rolled out in the week of December 2. This update is reported to introduce Apple Intelligence in more English locales than just English American. Furthermore, Gurman suggested that the "next major update to Apple Intelligence" will arrive with the iOS 18.4 update. This is reportedly scheduled to launch sometime in April 2025 and will bring improvements to Siri, including being able to access the user data and alter its query responses based on it. Apple's iOS 18.2 update is expected to introduce several key Apple Intelligence features. This includes a new Image Playground app, which leverages generative AI to create images based on text-based prompts. It also bundles Genmoji which does the same for emojis instead of images. Users can share these images and emojis in apps like Messages, Notes, and Keynote. Furthermore, it also includes an Image Wand feature which can transform a rough sketch into an image using descriptive prompts. Apple has also brought ChatGPT integration to Siri with its latest update. Its voice assistant can now take advantage of the capabilities of OpenAI's AI chatbot to provide users with more in-depth responses to queries. They can now ask for ChatGPT via Siri directly to get improved answers. With iOS 18.2, ChatGPT also becomes a part of Writing Tools. The feature requires optional sign-in, and iPhone users with a paid ChatGPT account can use their account for access to more powerful OpenAI models.

iOS 18.2 with new AI features could arrive by early December
Apple's next set of AI features is set to launch in early December with the iOS 18.2 update. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, this update will bring significant enhancements to Apple Intelligence, including integration with the ChatGPT chatbot, a new app called Image Playground for creating custom images, and a feature for generating personalized emojis known as Genmoji. The iOS 18.2 update will also expand support for various English dialects beyond the American version, with plans to include support for the European Union in a later release. However, support for China is not anticipated until iOS 19. Other updates in the pipeline include a potential integration with Google Gemini, though it's expected that OpenAI will maintain a period of exclusivity. The update will provide additional features for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 models, including: The iOS 18.2 update will offer localized English support for the U.K., Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Additionally, the update will introduce new features such as a "Default Apps" section in Settings, daily Sudoku puzzles for Apple News+ subscribers in the U.S., and an iMessage nudity reporting option in Australia. Mark Gurman anticipates that the iOS 18.2 update will be available during the week of December 2, 2024, assuming no delays. The next major update, iOS 18.4, expected in April, will enhance Siri's functionality by allowing it to access user data for personalized responses. Apple recently agreed to acquire Pixelmator, a popular image editing company. Pixelmator confirmed in a blog post that the deal is subject to regulatory approval. The Pixelmator team stated there will be "no material changes" to Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator for iOS, and Photomator apps "at this time." Pixelmator's tools, known for their AI features like background removal and Super Resolution, will potentially see broader integration within Apple's creative ecosystem. Pixelmator's founders expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition by Apple, highlighting the company's design focus. They stated that this partnership will enable them to reach a broader audience and have a more significant impact on the creative community globally. The latest Mac mini, equipped with M4 and M4 Pro chips, may position Apple as a competitor to gaming consoles like PlayStation and Xbox. Priced at $599, the base model includes 10 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores, aligning its performance with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The $1,399 M4 Pro variant surpasses even older Mac Pro and Mac Studio models. Apple aims to enhance the Mac mini's gaming capabilities with updated Metal graphics software, support for third-party controllers, and a game porting toolkit. However, the Mac gaming library still lacks the depth of titles available on rival platforms, though recent releases like Death Stranding and the promise of Cyberpunk 2077 reflect progress. Gurman concludes that the new hardware may encourage developers to bring more major games to the Mac ecosystem.

iOS 18.2 could land a week earlier than expected, and will include big Apple Intelligence updates
Usually it's the big annual iOS updates that are most worth getting excited about, but this year, due to Apple's decision to gradually roll out Apple Intelligence features, some of the supposedly smaller updates are arguably just as interesting, and the next of these could land sooner than expected. According to Mark Gurman, writing in his Power On newsletter for Bloomberg, iOS 18.2 will land sometime during the week commencing December 2. Typically, Apple's iOS x.2 releases land in the second week of December, so that would mean this is around a week earlier than usual. Thanks to the betas we already have a good idea of what to expect in iOS 18.2, and that includes ChatGPT integration, Genmoji (which lets you generate custom emoji using AI), and the Image Playground app, which similarly lets you generate custom images. The update is also expected to bring Visual Intelligence to iPhone 16 series users, allowing you to activate the feature with a long press of the Camera Control button, and then have the phone use AI to provide details about what the camera is pointed at. On top of which, varieties of English other than US English should also start supporting AI with the iOS 18.2 update - so if you're in the UK for example, and you changed your device and Siri languages to US English in order to access Apple Intelligence features, you'll be able to revert to UK English. So this is a hefty update - at least for anyone with an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence - and if Gurman is right, it's only around a month away. Gurman quite possibly is right too, as he has a very good track record for Apple information. Following the iOS 18.2 release, the next major Apple Intelligence update is expected as part of iOS 18.4, and Gurman says this will include improvements to Siri. However, this apparently won't land until April, whereas iOS x.4 updates usually launch in March, so while iOS 18.2 will reportedly land a little earlier than expected, iOS 18.4 might be later.

Apple is preparing to enhance its iOS ecosystem even further Apple's rapid advancements in AI technology continue with the anticipated release of the iOS 18.2 update. Following the recent launch of iOS 18.1, which debuted Apple Intelligence -- an array of AI-powered features -- Apple is preparing to enhance its iOS ecosystem even further. A report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman indicates that the iOS 18.2 update could arrive sooner than initially planned, with a release potentially scheduled for the week of December 2.
[31]
iOS 18.2 Developer Beta 2 Lets Users Create AI Images in Notes App
It also bundles several Camera Control features for iPhone 16 series Apple has rolled out the iOS 18.2 Developer Beta 2 for iPhone, nearly a week after the stable release of the iOS 18.1 update. It adds new features such as image creation capabilities based on text in the Notes app, the ability to share the location of a lost item being tracked by Find My with trusted people and ChatGPT limit visibility. Additionally, the iOS 18.2 Developer Beta 2 also adds several Camera Control-related tweaks exclusively for the iPhone 16 series. Apple's iOS 18.2 Developer Beta 1 expanded upon the features powered by Apple Intelligence -- the company's artificial intelligence (AI) suite that was first introduced by iOS 18.1. The Cupertino-based tech giant's latest developer update has a few enhancements for them, including a new image creation tool in the Notes app. Users can now select a text in the app and use the create image option from the menu which appears above and the device will create an image based on the description, leveraging Image Playground capabilities. The Apple Intelligence window in settings now shows the daily limit for free users. Only a certain number of permissible requests can be made within 24 hours, after which the prompts are directed towards the basic version of the app. This cycle is said to reset each day. Following the update, iPhone users can also upgrade to the ChatGPT Plus plan directly within settings. On the iPhone 16 series, the Camera Control button can be set to lock the auto exposure and autofocus settings with just a slight tap. Users can also adjust the double click speed of the button, in addition to existing options for tweaking the press sensitivity and double light press speed. iOS 18.2 Developer Beta 2 brings updates to the Find My app as well. Users can now choose to share the location of a lost item being tracked with others to find it easily and quickly. The feature works via the web browser, negating the need for others to have an iPhone or other Apple devices.

iOS 18.2 with Genmoji and Image Playground could arrive earlier than expected - Softonic
If the update of iOS 18.1 has already brought Apple Intelligence to our devices, the arrival of iOS 18.2 will take the next big step with the introduction of Apple's artificial intelligence image tools. Apple had already announced that this new version would arrive sometime in December, but the information published by Mark Gurman shows the importance of this release. One that could arrive a bit earlier than expected. Apple has a release schedule for updates that follows a fairly consistent pattern year after year. Everything begins with the release of the official iOS version of the year, which usually coincides with the presentation of the new iPhone models in September. This first release establishes the foundation of the new features that Apple has designed for its latest generation of devices and brings the bulk of the innovations. Subsequently, the .1 version arrives, which is generally released in October, fixing some initial bugs and refining the experience with some minor improvements. For the holiday season, Apple usually releases an X.2 update in December, which traditionally appears in the second or even third week of the month and brings several new features. This year, however, Apple seems to be accelerating the release schedule, as the anticipated iOS 18.2 could arrive during the first week of December, according to Mark Gurman's predictions in his weekly newsletter Power On. The decision to bring forward the release undoubtedly responds to the significance of the new features it will include, such as Genmoji and Image Playground, designed to offer us artificial intelligence tools related to images. If that wasn't enough, we also find the integration of ChatGPT in Siri which substantially improves the assistant's response capability. With iOS 18.2, the arrival of English support for several countries has also been confirmed. This includes users from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. In addition to updates related to Apple Intelligence, iOS 18.2 includes new features. One of them is the Default Apps section in Settings, which allows us to manage our applications in a more centralized way. An option to report inappropriate content in iMessage has also been added for Australia. Regarding entertainment, Apple News+ subscribers in the United States will be able to enjoy daily Sudokus. These, which could be the only new features of a version that might be expected until the end of December, combined with Apple Intelligence, require a somewhat earlier release. Thus, iOS 18.2 should arrive sooner than it would be expected under other circumstances. A release that will be the second major step in bringing artificial intelligence to our devices and will already focus on the next stage. The one that will arrive with iOS 18.4 in April and that will bring Apple Intelligence to Europe, will extend languages beyond English and will allow Siri to have personal context and awareness of what is on the screen when making our request. Meanwhile, sooner rather than later, we will have updates to install on our iPhone and iPad.

Apple is now on its second round of developer betas for iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2, alongside the first rounds of tvOS 18.2, watchOS 11.2, and visionOS 2.2. The new round of developer betas follows after the first, which for iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2, landed on October 23. This is the first beta release for this generation for tvOS 18.2, watchOS 11.2, and visionOS 2.2. The second builds of iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 share build number 22C5125e, replacing 22C5109p. The second macOS Sequoia 15.2 build is 24C5073e, up from 24C5057p. The first tvOS 18.2 beta build is number 22K5132e, the initial watchOS 11.2 beta is build 22S5077d, and the first visionOS 2.2 beta is 22N5778f. Following the end of the iOS 18.1 wave of betas with the release of Apple Intelligence, the iOS 18.2 wave is about adding more features to the generative AI tools. For the existing Writing Tools, there's a new API for third-party developers to use. The new inbound features include Genmoji, which creates emoji for users based on prompts. Image Playground is similar, enabling users to use prompts to generate images for use in documents, with an API also on the way for that. Siri gets a big update, thanks to ChatGPT integration. Some responses will be shared with the third-party AI service via Siri, which can provide better responses. iPhone 16 owners will be able to try out Visual Intelligence, asking queries using the iPhone camera. Lastly, Apple Intelligence will be available in more regions. Currently, Apple Intelligence is usable only in American English, but it will be available in five new English-speaking regions. Betas of iOS and iPadOS are also provided for older devices that do not support Apple Intelligence. AppleInsider and Apple strongly advise that users do not install test operating systems or other beta or RC software onto "mission-critical" or primary hardware, due to the small chance of issues that could result in the loss of data. Testers should therefore use secondary or non-essential devices and make sure they have sufficient backups of any critical data.

iOS 18.2: Apple Intelligence image features have a waitlist, here's why - 9to5Mac
Apple just launched the public beta for iOS 18.2. If you're excited to try out the latest Apple Intelligence features and more, we have an important PSA to share. Image features like Genmoji and Image Playground come with a waitlist in iOS 18.2, so you may not get access right away. Here's why. When iOS 18.1 arrived with the first wave of Apple Intelligence features, Apple utilized a waitlist. Most users, from what we've heard, didn't have to wait too long for AI access though. With iOS 18.2, there's a new waitlist specifically for the Apple Intelligence image tools. These include: After installing the iOS 18.2 beta, you can open the Image Playground app, or the Genmoji tool inside the emoji keyboard, and request access to the new image tools. Once you've requested access, you'll be on Apple's waitlist. But this time around, the wait may be longer than with iOS 18.1's AI features. In fact, it could stretch out several weeks. Why the wait? Because Apple is being very careful with this beta period. It wants to ensure that its AI image tools are working properly, producing their expected results, and aren't being misused. There have been countless stories of other AI products being used for harm, especially image tools. Users have created deceptive deepfakes, NSFW versions of popular IP, and a lot of other inappropriate AI creations. One of Apple's 'Responsible AI' principles is to 'Design with care.' Here's what that means: We take precautions at every stage of our process, including design, model training, feature development, and quality evaluation to identify how our AI tools may be misused or lead to potential harm. We will continuously and proactively improve our AI tools with the help of user feedback. That principle is very much at the core of iOS 18.2's image tool waitlist. The company is rolling out feature access slowly, and soliciting user feedback along the way so that it can continue to improve its AI tools before they ship publicly to millions of users next month. So while the wait might take a little while, know that there's a good reason behind it. Have you received access to iOS 18.2's image features? How long was your wait? Let us know in the comments.

iOS 18.2: A Closer Look at Image Wand, Genmoji, Playgrounds & AI
With the release of iOS 18.2, Apple introduces a suite of innovative image generation tools designed to enhance your creative experience on iPhone and iPad devices. These tools, including Image Playgrounds, the Magic Wand, and Genmoji, offer fresh and exciting ways to create, customize, and share unique images directly from your device. While these features come with certain limitations, they represent a significant step forward in mobile image creation and manipulation capabilities. The video below from Stephen Robles gives us a look at these new features in iOS 18.2. Image Playgrounds: Transforming Photos into Illustrations and Avatars Image Playgrounds stands out as a powerful tool that allows you to easily convert your existing photos into stylized illustrations or animated-style avatars. This feature primarily focuses on facial images, allowing you to craft distinctive and personalized avatars for use across various applications and platforms. However, it's important to note that Image Playgrounds does not currently support the conversion of full-body or object photos, and the available customization options are somewhat limited in scope. While you can personalize your creations to a certain extent, the overall scope for drastically altering or manipulating images remains constrained. Magic Wand Tool: Generating Images from Text Input The Magic Wand Tool introduces a novel way to generate images directly from text input, seamlessly integrating with the Apple Notes application. This powerful feature allows you to quickly create visual content by simply describing the desired image using natural language. In future updates, the Magic Wand Tool is expected to expand its compatibility to other core Apple applications like Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, further enhancing its utility and versatility. The generated images possess a distinct comic book-style aesthetic, offering a unique and eye-catching visual experience. However, it's crucial to recognize that the tool currently focuses primarily on non-human subjects, meaning it excludes the generation of images depicting people. Genmoji: Personalized Emoji Creation for Messaging In the realm of messaging, Genmoji introduces an exciting new way to create and share personalized emojis. With this feature, you can generate custom emojis tailored to your preferences and save them as stickers for easy access and sharing. Genmoji empowers you to add a unique personal touch to your communications, allowing for more expressive and engaging interactions. Similar to the Magic Wand Tool, Genmoji emphasizes non-human subjects, providing a playful and creative outlet for emoji creation without venturing into the complexities of human representation. Limitations and Future Enhancements through AI Integration Despite the significant advancements brought forth by the image generation tools in iOS 18.2, it's important to acknowledge their current limitations. As mentioned earlier, these tools cannot create images involving human subjects, which may restrict their applicability in certain scenarios. Additionally, the quality of the generated images can vary, with larger images potentially suffering from pixelation or reduced clarity and detail. Looking ahead, iOS 18.2 lays the groundwork for deeper integration with artificial intelligence technologies like Chat GPT. This integration holds immense promise for expanding the creative possibilities and capabilities of image generation on Apple devices. As AI advances, we can anticipate more sophisticated and diverse image creation options, potentially even extending to the generation of human subjects. Moreover, the availability of these AI-powered features in third-party applications could greatly amplify their reach and impact, empowering developers to incorporate advanced image generation capabilities into their own apps. In summary, iOS 18.2's introduction of Image Playgrounds, the Magic Wand Tool, and Genmoji marks a significant milestone in mobile image generation and manipulation. While these tools come with certain limitations, they offer exciting new avenues for creativity and self-expression on Apple devices. As Apple continues to refine and expand these features, particularly through the integration of AI technologies, we can look forward to an increasingly robust and versatile image creation experience on iOS. Whether you're a casual user seeking to personalize your communications or a creative professional looking to push the boundaries of mobile image generation, iOS 18.2 lays the foundation for a promising future in this domain.
