One UI 8 Watch leak reveals how Gemini will work on Wear OS (APK teardown)
Our teardown also shows that Gemini on Wear OS will be able to summarize emails, make calendar changes, and more. We recently heard that Samsung could skip One UI 7 Watch and go straight to One UI 8 Watch. Now, APKs for One UI 8 Watch have leaked, courtesy of X user IposDev. We took those APKs and started digging around, leading us to some pretty interesting information. We now have more details about how Gemini could work, not just on Samsung's Galaxy Watches but also on other Wear OS smartwatches. While Google has already confirmed that Gemini is coming to Wear OS watches, our teardown of the Google Assistant app (Wear OS version) from the leaked One UI 8 Watch APKs gives us the clearest look yet at what the AI upgrade will actually bring to your wrist. Buried within the code are references to "Gemini Actions," suggesting that Wear OS users may soon enjoy the same app-linking and task automation capabilities that Gemini already supports on Android phones. Other strings from our teardown hint at specific use cases that point to Gemini's ability to manage calendar events, summarize emails, and answer general queries on Wear OS. If this functionality ships as described, Wear OS watches may soon become much more useful for productivity and day-to-day task management. Another notable string suggests Google is also thinking about ease of usability. The string likely refers to a prompt that allows users to mute Gemini's voice output with a quick tap, which would come in handy in public or during workouts. Given that the leaked APK is tied to the One UI 8 Watch update, Samsung could be gearing up to ship Gemini on Galaxy Watches alongside (or possibly even ahead of) the wider Wear OS ecosystem. Samsung has been a close partner with Google on Wear OS since the platform's reboot, and it wouldn't be surprising if Galaxy Watches become the first to showcase these new Gemini features. Google is expected to discuss more about Gemini at I/O 2025, and with the One UI 8 Watch beta reportedly around the corner, Samsung users may get early access to Gemini on wearables. As always with APK teardowns, some features may not make the cut, but there's plenty here to get excited about.

Major Samsung Galaxy Watch One UI 8 leak just tipped three big upgrades
Samsung is reportedly launching One UI 8 this summer for its smartphone devices, but wearables won't be left behind. Earlier this week, leaker DevOfIpos revealed a number of One UI 8 features including an improved DeX. They also apparently found firmware for One UI 8 Watch and posted some their findings on X. It looks to be a fairly substantial update for Samsung's Galaxy smartwatches. For starters, Samsung appears to be skipping versions 6.5 and 7 and heading straight to version 8. Part of the leap includes new icons with the rounder style that Samsung introduced in One UI 7 for its handsets. They also posted that Google's Gemini AI bot is replacing Google Assistant in the One UI 8 Watch update. It's been expected that Gemini will make its way into Wear OS, and it looks like Wear OS 6 will be the first inkling of that. Reportedly, Gemini is functionally the same app as Assistant. As part of the leak, APKs from the update were also put up by Ipos, which Android Authority went through. If you're interested in the code, they beak down APKs on a regular basis. On a simpler level, the APKs reveal strings that hint at how Gemini will work, which seems a lot like how Assistant currently operates but with new AI tools. The code has "Gemini Actions" listed, which include standard Gemini features like email summarization, managing calendar events or getting weather updates via queries. Beyond Gemini, the APKs also revealed a new "antioxidant index" in the Samsung Health app. This measurement would allegedly measure beta carotene levels in your skin. You would need to press that pad of your thumb against the back of your watch to trigger the measurement. This feature is supposed to help you tailor your nutrition based on its measurements. Interestingly, one of the code strings reads, ""Keep in mind that antioxidant index measurement is for fitness and wellness only, not for the diagnosis or treatment of any medical condition. If you're concerned about your antioxidant level, be sure to see a medical professional."" The APKs apparently held some images showcasing how this feature will work. Google's annual developers conference, Google I/O 2025 is coming up at the end of the month and we expect to hear more about Wear OS 6 then, which One UI 8 Watch will be based on.

3 of the most exciting new features coming to your Galaxy Watch with the One UI 8 Watch update
Galaxy Watch will purportedly skip One UI Watch 7 to synchronize branding with its phone software Samsung Galaxy Watches will get a major upgrade with the advent of One UI 8 Watch - which we could see as soon as June or July - which looks set to include Google Gemini, a Shortcuts app, and Samsung's Now Bar. Following reports that Samsung will skip One UI 7 Watch in favor of One UI 8 Watch - a move that will align the branding of Samsung's watch software with its best Samsung phones - One UI 8 APKs have leaked, giving us a look at the new features coming to Galaxy wearables. As reported by Android Authority, Gemini AI is indeed coming to Samsung watches as well as its own Pixel lineup, with some exciting new features in tow. Findings indicate new 'Gemini Actions' will bring many of the same great Gemini features for Android phones to your wrist, with code strings hinting at several exciting actions. References include Gemini Actions that can move your meetings, summarize emails, and tell you the weather, as well as an input that can quickly mute Gemini AI with a simple tap of your screen. As noted in a separate report, AA has also uncovered a new Watch app dubbed Shortcuts, which will let you add apps to your Galaxy Watch home screen as either 2 x 1 or 2 x 2 tiles, making them much more easily accessible. Finally, the outlet reports that Samsung is bringing One UI 7's Now Bar and Now Brief to the Galaxy Watch. Samsung's Now Bar displays information, including live notifications, music, and more, on your Galaxy smartphone's home screen. According to AA, users will be able to choose between a simple icon and a larger display with an icon and text. Users will also reportedly be able to double-pinch to open the Now Bar, and enable other actions if there's no content in the bar. "Essentially, the Now Bar on Galaxy Watches will serve as a widget system, surfacing contextually relevant data without needing to navigate away from the watch face," the report explains, specifically noting contextual suggestions, maps, media controls, Now Brief, tips, and Sports on Google (live sports scores). There are no doubt other big features hidden under the surface that will come to light as we move towards the official release of One UI 8 Watch. Suffice it to say, customers can expect a pretty hefty software upgrade on devices like the Galaxy Watch Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7.
