Samsung Showcases AI for All Vision at Developer Conference 2024

At the annual Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) 2024, Samsung Electronics shared its vision for a more personalised and secure experience with multi-device AI technology, themed "AI for All." The event drew around 3,000 developers, partners, and media attendees, marking a decade of collaboration and innovation, Samsung said on October 4. The conference also highlighted advancements in Samsung's Bespoke AI appliances, which incorporate features like AI Vision Inside in refrigerators with AI Family Hub and AI Floor Detect in robotic vacuums. According to Samsung, as of March 2024, AI Vision Inside can recognise up to 33 food items, such as fresh fruits and vegetables. If a food item is not recognisable, it may be listed as an unknown item. AI Vision Inside recognises food items based on deep learning models, which are periodically updated to improve accuracy. Samsung says its smart home appliances leverage the best of AI technology to make life better, simpler, and easier than ever, and that capability grows even stronger with the AI-upgraded Bixby. Users can control their entire smart home from anywhere within earshot of a Bixby-enabled appliance. Samsung also noted that Bixby's enhanced capabilities extend to Samsung smart TVs. The mobile remote control feature enables users to control their TV from their phone, and Samsung AI Cast can send AI-generated results from mobile devices to the TV. Available from the TV home screen, users can enjoy images and content lists developed with generative AI, including integration with ChatGPT. Samsung said it is integrating AI across its visual display applications as well, from AI Upscaling and AI Customisation on smart TVs to offering a new Daily Board Software Development Kit (SDK) for developers to turn any smart TV screen into a one-stop shop for daily information like weather, device health, and local updates, through a new partnership with Nextdoor. Reportedly, Samsung also showcased its signage solutions with Visual Experience Transformation (VXT), a software platform and accompanying content management solution (CMS) for content production, operation, and management. The company said that by using an AI-powered chatbot with the Pre-Integrated Repeatable Solution (PIRS) and Widget and Extension (WiNE) Framework, VXT offers efficient, streamlined signage solutions and allows developers to seamlessly integrate solutions and simplify processes on the platform. Samsung's Tizen OS will harness on-device AI to boost performance and usability, with new SDKs for developers to create innovative applications. The SmartThings platform will also leverage AI to provide real-time home management insights through the new Home Insight feature. "Samsung is using advanced AI technology to unlock higher-level SmartThings experiences and explore a wider range of partnerships," the company said. Passkey will bring greater convenience and security to users, while also supporting web browser-based logins via mobile QR code scanning, Samsung said.

Celebrating the tenth anniversary of Samsung Developer Conference, SDC24 welcomed approximately 3,000 developers, partners and media from around the world under the theme "AI for All -- A Decade of Open Innovation and Beyond." The event commenced with a keynote address by Jong-Hee (JH) Han, Vice Chairman, CEO and Head of Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics. During his speech, Han unveiled a vision of delivering more personalized and secure experiences through multi-device AI technology. "In the future, Samsung devices will recognize who is speaking and deliver a customized experience.
