AI to Drive Significant Job Growth in India

A new report commissioned by ServiceNow, an AI platform for business transformation, predicts that India's workforce will grow by 33.89 million jobs by 2028, largely driven by AI and emerging technologies 1. This growth is expected to increase India's total workforce from 423.73 million in 2023 to 457.62 million by 2028 2.

  • Manufacturing: 1.50 million jobs
  • Education: 0.84 million jobs
  • Healthcare: 0.80 million jobs 3

Tech Jobs on the Rise

  • AI Systems Engineers will benefit significantly from generative AI, with AI technologies contributing to half of the total tech impact on this role.
  • Implementation Consultants could save 1.9 hours per week as AI takes over repetitive tasks 2.

Preparing for the AI-Driven Future

To harness this growth potential, companies and policymakers are urged to focus on upskilling the workforce. ServiceNow's 'RiseUp with ServiceNow' program aims to train one million individuals in high-demand digital competencies worldwide by 2024. In India, 97,695 individuals have already gained skills on the company's AI platform within the last 12 months 3.

Sumeet Mathur, SVP and Managing Director of ServiceNow India Technology and Business Center, emphasized the importance of AI in job creation, stating, "AI will be a key catalyst for job creation across India's growth engines, particularly in roles requiring advanced technical skills." 4
