According to Mark Gurman, Apple is exploring partnerships with companies such as Anthropic PBC and OpenAI to enhance Siri's functionalities. Discussions are already underway to utilize their large language models for Siri. Apple has also requested that Anthropic and OpenAI develop versions of their models that can be tested on Apple's cloud infrastructure. Additionally, OpenAI is already supporting several important AI features on the iPhone.

Apple already allows Siri to use ChatGPT to answer some web-based questions. Apple has reportedly talked with OpenAI and Anthropic about using their AI models, ChatGPT and Claude, for Siri. This highlights that the tech giant is likely facing challenges with its own in-house AI models. According to Bloomberg, Apple has asked both companies to train versions of their models that can run on Apple's own cloud infrastructure. While no final decision has been made yet, the move could mark a big shift in Apple's AI strategy. Currently, Apple uses its own technology, called Apple Foundation Models, for powering its AI features. The company has been working on a new and improved version of Siri based on this tech, expected in 2026. However, if Apple decides to go ahead with OpenAI or Anthropic, it would be a clear sign that its internal efforts are falling behind in the evolving world of generative AI. Also, the tech giant has now shipped more than 3 billion iPhones since the device first launched in 2007. The company also achieved new milestones in services, especially in Apple TV+, iCloud and App Store.
