Google Gemini's Memory Feature Now Works on Free Accounts
Summary Gemini's free version is now offering a new "Saved Info" feature, previously available to Advanced subscribers. It can store key details, making interactions more personalized and efficient. Google's Gemini AI chatbot might be one of the best ones you can use if you're not willing to pay for a chatbot. Its free version is pretty good, and Google doesn't put huge limits to it. Now, it's getting one extra feature that was only available for Advanced users -- Saved info. Google is now rolling out its "Saved Info" feature to free users of Gemini Advanced. Saved Info, if you haven't used it, acts as a memory bank for Gemini, allowing users to store crucial details about their lives, work, preferences, and communication styles. This eliminates the need to repeatedly provide the same context or instructions with every interaction. A lot of other AI chatbots, including ChatGPT, have already rolled out similar features, and Google itself has had this one for a while now if you were an Advanced user. Now, you'll get access to it even if you don't pay for the AI. It's pretty neat because it lets you give Gemini some info to keep in mind, so you don't have to constantly remind it over and over of stuff while you're writing your prompts. Imagine having to remind your AI assistant of your job title, dietary restrictions, or preferred writing style every time you interact. That was the status quo for chatbots for a long time, and it's good to see that a lot of them keep implementing memory banks to remember facts about the user to take into account for outputs. By allowing users to proactively input and manage personal information, Gemini can tailor its responses to be more relevant and helpful. Users can access and manage their "Saved Info" through a dedicated page in their Settings menu. Once you're there, you can manage what Gemini knows, or doesn't know, about you and your personal life. You can make it remember things such as what breed your dog is, or what's your occupation, or what you usually eat -- things that will eventually become handy in future interactions with the chatbot. The company also recently announced another recall feature that can find information and context from past chats. That recall feature, introduced earlier this month, remains exclusive to Gemini Advanced subscribers. There are a few key differences between both features. "Saved Info" is proactive, allowing users to preemptively inform Gemini about their preferences. By contrast, this recall feature is reactive, enabling Gemini to retrieve information from previous interactions. Both contribute to a more personalized experience and help make Gemini better by overall getting better at remembering stuff you told it, but they operate on different principles and serve distinct purposes. "Saved Info" is about establishing a persistent knowledge base, while recalling is about contextual awareness within a specific conversational history. If anything, you can think of both features as complementing each other in a way. It's not clear if that other feature will land for free users yet, though. So far, this looks like a pretty cool upgrade for Gemini free users, and you now have one less reason to fork up those $20 a month for the Google One AI subscription. There are other reasons why it might still be worth it, such as deeper integration with other Google apps and access to more advanced models for deeper thinking (although the 2.0 Pro model is only available in an "Experimental" version right now and Google also retired the previous 1.5 Pro model, so there's not really a stable Pro model at the time of writing). Gemini just got an enhanced memory upgrade for all users and you'll love what you can do with it now
Google has added the ability to remember personal information to the free version of Gemini, just a few weeks after launching the feature for Gemini Advanced subscribers. The ability to recall information is one of the most useful features of an AI Chatbot, and makes it feel much more personal. That ability has been available in Gemini rival ChatGPT for about a year now, so Google are late to the game, but making the 'saved info' feature available to all Gemini users so quickly is a really great move. 'Saved info' means you don't keep having to tell Gemini the names of your children or what job you have, which makes the conversations with it feel much more natural. For example, I'm currently working on writing a book, and once I've asked Gemini to remember this, and a few things about it, I can simply refer to it as "my book" in future conversations and it knows what the subject is and what level it's aimed at, meaning our conversations about it feel much more natural. It really is like talking to a friend. If you've been using Gemini for a while now with the app on your phone or through a web browser then you'll know that it's a powerful chatbot, on a par with ChatGPT, and you can also voice chat with us using Gemini Live, which comes with 10 different voices, just like you're having a conversation with a human. Gemini Live requires a Gemini Advanced subscription on an iPhone, but Android users get it free. With a Gemini Advanced subscription Gemini's ability to remember things works in both the standard chatbot interface and in Gemini Live. To get Gemini to remember something just say, or type, "Remember that" or "keep in mind", followed by what you want me to remember. On a free account you'll now notice that 'Saved info' has been added to the web interface so you can now use it in the same way Gemini Advanced subscribers can, however we haven't been able to access it in the mobile app yet for free users. Hopefully it will roll out in the next few days. Gemini doesn't have to remember what you've told it to remember forever, either. To delete something you've saved just write or say, for example, "Forget everything I told you about my sci fi novel". You can also manage what Gemini has saved for you on the 'saved info' page accessible from tapping on your profile image. You might be wondering if it's still worth being a Gemini Advanced (via Google One AI Premium) subscriber, which costs $19.99 / £18.99 / AU$32.99 a month, since a lot of the benefits have now transferred over to the free Gemini, including use of the latest Gemini 2.0 Flash LLM. However, it's worth bearing in mind that the premium service gives you access to a number of other new LLMs like 2.0 Experimental. You also get 2TB of storage and access to NotebookLM Plus.

Free Gemini users just got a big upgrade, plus paid users have a new Live perk
As part of its ongoing quest to continue upgrading its AI, Google is making some changes to Gemini -- making a paid feature free to everyone and giving Gemini the ability to see the world around it. First up, the ability for Gemini to remember your preferences, interests, work, and more is coming to all users. This feature debuted last November as a Gemini Advanced exclusive (and, for comparison, has existed on ChatGPT for a while). Also: Google's Gemini AI might soon back up Siri on your iPhone - just like ChatGPT Saved info lets you tell Gemini certain details about your life, like your name, your family's name, or a specific project you're using ChatGPT for. This means you won't have to enter this information each time, and you'll get more relevant answers. Google offered a few more suggestions for the feature, including: You will need to add each piece of saved info manually. To do so, head to the settings menu and find "Saved info." The feature does appear to be rolling out on the desktop version first, but it's headed to both desktop and the mobile app. In addition, at last week's Mobile World Congress, Google announced that Gemini Live can now "see" -- either from your screen or from a live video. This feature, which will be rolling out later this month, is only available to paid Gemini Advanced users for now. With this feature, you'll see a "Share screen with Live" button when you open Gemini. Tap it, and you'll have the option to share your screen or start a video. You can ask the AI questions about your surroundings or about what's on your phone screen. Also: Gemini Live just got much easier to talk to - here's how In a demo video, a user asks for outfit ideas using a pair of pants shown on screen. Gemini recommends a top, and the user then asks for a jacket recommendation. In another showcasing live video, a user asks Gemini for help picking a glaze color for a vase they just created. Gemini ends up picking "the first one on the left in the second row" when shown a display of available options -- fairly impressive context.

Gemini will now also remember free users' preferences
Back in November, Google rolled out a feature called "Saved Info" for Gemini. Previously, this feature was exclusive to Gemini Advanced users as part of their Google One AI Premium plan. Now, the tech giant is rolling the feature out to free Gemini users as well. For a refresher, Gemini's Saved Info feature allows you to save certain details about your life, work, and other personal preferences. This provides global guidance to Gemini, which is used in every new chat by default. The result is more relevant answers and saved time. For example, if you wanted Gemini to only respond to you like a certain celebrity, you could save that as a preference. This way you won't have to type that part into every prompt you submit.

Free users just got access to a much more personalized Gemini
Summary Gemini's Saved Info feature, which allows the AI to remember user preferences, is now available for free users after initially launching for Advanced subscribers. This feature enables personalized responses, saves time by eliminating repetitive prompts, and is accessible via Gemini's settings. Saved Info for free Gemini users is available on the web. It should be available on the Gemini mobile app in the coming days. Letting Gemini know that I dislike glue on my pizza, and having the AI agent remember it within its 'Saved Info' section was game-changing, albeit only on one of my Google accounts -- the one with access to Gemini Advanced. Gemini gained the ability to remember user interests, preferences, and the things they care about back in November 2024. At the time, the functionality was limited to Gemini Advanced users, but we speculated that it should land in the hands of free Gemini users in the coming months. Well, that day has arrived. Related You can now tell Google Gemini to remember you hate glue on your pizza The tool can now remember your likes and dislikes Posts 1 As pointed out by 9to5Google, Saved Info is now live for free Gemini users, and although I don't currently see it on the mobile app, I do have access to it on the web. Google followed the staggered rollout when it first introduced Saved Info for Advanced users, so expect mobile support in the coming days. The feature not only makes it easy for Gemini to tailor its responses in accordance with your preferences, it also helps you save time by avoiding repetition in future interactions. Personalized resutls are here Close Pizza glue jokes aside, having Gemini know your preferences can actually be very useful in certain situations. If Gemini knows that you're, for example, vegan, it will only recommend relevant restaurants when you probe for dining options near you. Similarly, if you only use Gemini for quick information gathering, you can let it know that you prefer short and concise responses. These responses will carry the 'Your saved info' tag as the source. To access the Saved Info section, head to Gemini's Settings and tap on Saved Info. This is where you can add examples, and edit or delete old ones. The feature is currently limited to Gemini English users. It's worth noting that Saved Info is not the same as Gemini's Recall functionality, which can reference past discussions in new ones, summarize previous chats, and build on ongoing projects you might have talked to Gemini about in the past. Gemini Recall, for reference, is still limited to Advanced users. Related Gemini Advanced just got a whole lot smarter Google's AI can now recall previous chats Posts 1

Google has rolled out its "Saved Info" memory feature to all Gemini users, allowing the AI to remember personal details and preferences for more tailored interactions. Previously exclusive to paid subscribers, this update significantly enhances the free version's capabilities.
Google has taken a significant step in enhancing its AI chatbot, Gemini, by extending the "Saved Info" feature to all users, including those on free accounts. This move, announced recently, marks a notable upgrade in the accessibility of advanced AI functionalities 123.
The Saved Info feature acts as a memory bank for Gemini, allowing users to store crucial details about their lives, work, preferences, and communication styles. This eliminates the need to repeatedly provide the same context or instructions with every interaction, making the AI experience more personalized and efficient 14.
Users can access and manage their Saved Info through a dedicated page in their Settings menu. Here, they can input various personal details such as:
Once this information is saved, Gemini can tailor its responses to be more relevant and helpful in future interactions 125.
This feature brings Gemini more in line with competitors like ChatGPT, which has offered similar memory capabilities for about a year. By implementing this feature for free users, Google is enhancing Gemini's competitiveness in the AI chatbot market 23.
The addition of Saved Info to free accounts significantly improves the user experience. It allows for more natural conversations with the AI, as users don't have to constantly remind Gemini of their personal context. This can be particularly useful for ongoing projects or specific areas of interest 24.
While free users now have access to Saved Info, some features remain exclusive to Gemini Advanced subscribers. For instance, a recall feature that can find information and context from past chats is still only available to paid users. This feature differs from Saved Info in that it's reactive, retrieving information from previous interactions, while Saved Info is proactive, allowing users to preemptively inform Gemini about their preferences 13.
Google emphasizes user control over their saved information. Users can manage what Gemini knows about them and can delete or modify this information at any time. This feature allows for a balance between personalization and privacy 125.
In addition to the Saved Info feature, Google has announced that Gemini Live, available to Advanced subscribers, will soon be able to "see" either from the user's screen or from a live video. This visual capability will allow Gemini to answer questions about the user's surroundings or screen content, further enhancing its interactive capabilities 34.
As AI technology continues to evolve, these developments in Gemini showcase Google's commitment to improving AI accessibility and functionality for all users, while still maintaining some advanced features for premium subscribers.
