Adobe adds new AI-powered image editing features to Photoshop | TechCrunch
Adobe is bringing more AI-powered image editing and enhancement features to Photoshop using its Firefly models. The company said today that it is rolling out an image upscaling feature, an object blending, and an upgraded object remover to Photoshop. The company said that the Generative Upscale feature will enhance an image up to 8 megapixels. This is useful for restoring details to old photos, upscaling images for prints, or adopting assets for various platforms. In 2024, Adobe teased a feature called Project Perfect Blend, which works on correcting colors, shadows, and lighting for newly added objects to an image. The idea is to have the new object, such as a sofa chair in a room, blend in with the environment. Now, Adobe is rolling out this feature under the Harmonize moniker, letting you place an object in a scene, remove its background, and have Photoshop use Firefly models to adjust color, lighting, shadows, and visual tones to fit the object in the scene. The company is also rolling out an improved object removal tool. Previously, when you used generative fill to remove the object, the tool considered the whole scene to fill in the gap of the removed object and at times, that resulted in unwanted artifacts in the image. The company has reworked the algorithm to have it focus on just removing the object and filling the gap with the background. In a demo seen by TechCrunch, when Adobe's director for product management at Photoshop, Joel Baer, tried to remove a small bowl of Pico de Gallo from a picture with an earlier version of object removal, the tool just added a green blob. The new version was able to successfully remove the object and replace it with the background. Adobe is also adding a few small features to Photoshop, including a better way to manage putting assets in a shared and organized space. Plus, the company lets you choose the version of the Firefly model you want to choose while using AI features. "We have talked to photographers, designers, and content creators to understand what are the pain points in their workflows and what slows them down. These new features will help them save time, remove friction from their workflows, and take on some of the time-consuming tasks on their behalf," Shambhavi Kadam, senior director of product management for Photoshop, said in a briefing. The Generative Upscale, Harmonize, and improved object removal features are available in beta for Photoshop on desktop and web versions. The Harmonize feature is also available on the new Photoshop iOS app through an early access program.

Photoshop's New AI Tool Wants to Help You Spend Less Time Relighting Photos
Photoshop is getting a new dose of generative AI, Adobe announced Tuesday. Three new Firefly-powered editing tools are rolling out now, including a new photo harmonization tool, a new upscaling feature to make images sharper and updates to its AI eraser. Adobe users got a sneak peek at the harmonize tool at last fall's creator conference, Adobe Max, when it was known as Project Perfect Blend. Adobe Applied Research Scientist Mengwei Ren told CNET at the time that the tool uses AI to create new lighting conditions without changing or destroying the underlying image. "It's generating some lighting effects but preserving the identity, the structure and faces. We don't want to change anything dramatically," said Ren. The AI creates a new lighting, matching the coloring and shading of the original environment, and it's applied as a kind of invisible layer over the existing object in a matter of minutes. It dramatically cuts down the time it would take to manually edit each object in a composite image. Two other gen AI changes coming for Photoshop users are a new generative upscaling tool and upgrades to its generative remove feature. Upscaling is a common generative AI process that improves an existing image; in this case, the Photoshop tool promises to boost image resolution up to 8 megapixels. More pixels means your imagery should be sharper and clearer. The updated remove tool should be more precise for you to use when selecting objects you want erased, and the affected area should blend more seamlessly for a cleaner final edit. Read More: I Took Photoshop's Generative AI for a Spin. These Are the Tools That Stuck Out The new features are rolling out now to Photoshop users. You'll need to use the beta desktop app or web app to use the three new AI tools. The harmonize feature is additionally available through the Photoshop iPhone mobile app. Adobe subscription plans that include Photoshop start at $20 per month. Adobe is well into its AI era, and this week's drop is just the latest in the company's effort to integrate generative AI across its editing software suite. Photoshop has a lot of AI, including its popular generative fill, expand and remove tools. Its proprietary family of Firefly AI models also let paying subscribers generate images and video clips, now with audio. Many creators are worried about the development and deployment of generative AI, from the alleged copyright infringement taking place during model training to the AI slop filling online spaces and job security worries. Adobe's AI user guidelines and terms say it doesn't train on customer content, and its models are trained on licensed content (including Adobe Stock) and public domain content.

These Are the Photoshop AI Tools Worth Using: How I Use AI to Edit My Photos
You don't need to be a Photoshop expert to give its new generative AI a test drive. Adobe has added a number of AI features to its premiere photo editor over the past few years, and if you use Photoshop regularly, you've probably seen these pop up on your task bars. I spend a lot of time reviewing AI image generators and other AI creative software, so I had to put the original photo editor's AI to the test. AI might not be right for every project, especially for professional creators who regularly use Photoshop. What I found is that there are some good tools that may help your creative workflows, but you need to spend some time initially getting to know the options. These are the tools you should start with, plus some tried-and-tested tips from my experience using Photoshop's AI. You can access the AI tools in any Photoshop file on the web and desktop apps. You can now also edit on your iPhone and Android, thanks to new mobile apps. I found it easiest to import my favorite photos from my Lightroom albums (all my projects are synced in my Creative Cloud) and then edit on my laptop's bigger screen. Editing on the go on mobile was a great backup option. The first time you try to use any of these AI tools, Adobe will make you agree to its various AI terms of service. The policy states Adobe won't train its AI models on your content, and you must agree to follow their guidelines, which prohibit things like creating abusive or illegal content. For more, read our reviews of the best AI image generators. Adobe's AI image model Firefly is available as a separate app and embedded in Photoshop, so you can use it wherever is easiest for you. If you're already creating in Photoshop, here's how to access Firefly. When you're writing your prompt, don't be afraid to add a lot of detail, and put the most important elements at the beginning. Check out our AI image prompt-writing guide for more tips to get better results. If you're not in love with the images, you can click the image pop-out window or the icon with four squares to adjust your prompt and reference images. You can tap the three vertical dots on the end of the pin bar to give feedback on the generations, remove the background, or generate similar images. If you still don't like what you've got, I recommend starting over with a new prompt rather than trying to endlessly tweak and generate, hoping to get it right. You can also use generative AI tools to edit your existing project in Photoshop. Generative fill, expand and remove are some of the most popular AI tools. Here's how to use each. Generative fill is like a miniaturized AI image generator. It's one of the most popular AI tools in Photoshop. With generative fill, you can select a specific region of your project, enter a text prompt, and it will create a new design for that area. You can find generative fill by going to Edit > Generative fill. Make sure to use the selection brush tool. Mark the area you want the elements to appear, type in your prompt and click generate. Generative expand is useful when you need more space in an image. You can create new sections of your image to seamlessly blend with your current image or you can enter a text prompt and create new scenery. You can also use it to enlarge your project. To access generative expand, select the crop tool, pull out your canvas to whatever size you want, enter a prompt if you want and click generate. Generative remove is like an AI-supercharged eraser. The tool isolates and removes certain elements from your project without disrupting the entire image. There are two ways to remove objects from your work. The first is to select the object with the object select tool, click generative fill and put the word "remove" in the prompt. Otherwise you can use the remove tool (Spot healing tool > Remove tool) to manually highlight the objects you want erased. Read more: Photoshop's Perfect Blend Concept Stuns With Composite Photos Sky replacement is a cool AI tool that can add drama to your landscapes. You can create an alternative sky by navigating to Edit > Sky replacement and selecting from a variety of choices, including sunsets, blue skies and colorful options labeled "spectacular." Once you've chosen a preset you like, you can manually adjust the brightness and other elements. Generate background works well for product photography or other shots where the subject or object is the focal point of the image. Upload your shot to Photoshop, click remove background from the contextual task bar (the pin box that pops up when you select the layer) and click generate background. Some of the backgrounds turn out better than others. The cityspaces I generated looked kind of fake, but colored or patterned backgrounds came out great. There are some other AI tools that may be right for you depending on your project. Neural filters can be used in more detailed photo editing, and the curvature pen can help designers make more consistent-looking arcs. We're also expecting to see more AI-powered editing tools introduced in Photoshop this year. Overall, Photoshop's AI suite performed well. Some of the tools were helpful, but you have to know what the tools are designed to be used for in order to get the best results. For example, generative expand was good for resizing photos, and I found generative remove great for erasing photobombing objects. Other tools, like the sky replacement tool, worked for some photos but not others. I won't use Photoshop's AI for every project, but I do think there might be times when it's a good option.

This new Photoshop feature can boost image resolution in just one click, thanks to AI
Adobe Photoshop is a powerful photo-editing tool; however, learning how to use it can be daunting at first. As a result, Adobe has been sprinkling in AI features that make it easier to do more with a single click -- and today's drop is no different. Also: The best graphic design software of 2025: Feature-packed, professional tools On Tuesday, Adobe launched two new generative AI features in beta, powered by Adobe Firefly: Harmonize and Generative Upscale. Even if you are not a creative professional or marketer who uses Photoshop every day as a cornerstone of their workflow, if you have ever taken or kept a photo, you'll likely be able to benefit from at least one of the new features -- coming from someone who saw the demos and can't wait to try one of them for myself. The Generative Upscale feature boosts an image's resolution up to eight megapixels without compromising clarity. So, for example, you can upload an image in which the details are fuzzy, whether due to wear and tear on a physical image over the years or an image you took that you wish you could have taken in higher-quality resolution, and have it enhanced without sacrificing the image's details -- a trade-off that often happens when upscaling an image using traditional methods that stretch the existing pixels. Also: Adobe Firefly can now generate AI sound effects for videos - and I'm seriously impressed I had access to a live demo of Generative Upscale, which was used to upgrade an old black-and-white family image that had some details missing due to the wear and tear of being a physical image that had lasted throughout the years. By simply tapping the button, the image not only had higher pixels, but the tool also made some of the details crisper. Personally, I am excited to try using the feature on images I have of my grandparents that could use some TLC. In the future, Adobe shares that it plans on adding features that enhance the actual details of the image. Many people rely on Photoshop to combine images to create a composite. While this process is a key part of marketers, photographers, and other creative professionals' workflows, getting the lighting and bleeding just right can be challenging. Harmonize seeks to tackle that issue. Also: I test AI tools for a living. Here are 3 image generators I actually use and how With Harmonize, Photoshop desktop, web, and early access on iOS can automatically adjust an image's elements like color, lighting, shadows, and tone to make the composite result more seamless. For example, in my demo, an image of two children running on the beach was then overlaid with another picture of a third child running. Although the pictures were taken in different lighting, when using the Harmonize feature, the image looked seamless. The Remove Tool is a really helpful tool for removing an element from the image with a swipe. Now the feature has been improved to be more accurate, not only removing the objects, but also more accurately filling in what was left behind. Also: The best photo editing software of 2025: Expert tested and reviewed A new Projects beta is also launching in Photoshop desktop. It's meant to help people have one space in which they can store all of their assets for easy access and organization. Adobe said it helps the sharing process, as users can share entire collections at once. Lastly, Adobe introduced the GenAI Model Picker within Photoshop, which, when using the viral Generative Fill and Generative Expand tools, will display the different Firefly Image Models for added user control.

I've complained about Photoshop's pricing for years, but its new features changed my mind
There's no sugarcoating it: Adobe Photoshop doesn't come cheap. For years, I've silently questioned whether its sky-high price was really justified, especially when there are dozens of free Photoshop alternatives available. While some of my colleagues ended up saying goodbye to Adobe, canceling all their subscriptions and replacing them with other apps, I've stubbornly held on. Not because I thought Photoshop was perfect, but because part of me kept hoping Adobe would finally offer something that truly felt worth the cost. And today, that's exactly what it did. Photoshop's Harmonize feature might just be the upgrade we've been waiting for As announced via a post on Adobe Newsroom, Photoshop on desktop, web, and mobile is getting new features designed to help make "editing faster and more intuitive." The first feature I'm most excited about is Harmonize. Though Adobe previously previewed this feature as Project Perfect Blend at Adobe Max 2024, it's only now launching it in beta. The Harmonize feature, which is powered by Adobe's Firefly Image model, allows you to "blend elements into compositions with stunning realism, in just a few clicks." While the description alone might not sound too intriguing, I was lucky enough to be shown a preview of it, and it completely changed how I look at background compositing. With just a few clicks, Harmonize adjusted lighting, color tones, and shadows so seamlessly that the subject looked like it had always belonged in the new scene. Image Credit: Adobe The Harmonize feature works its magic once you add a new object to an existing composition. It "intelligently analyzes the surrounding context" and automatically adjusts color, lighting, shadows, and visual tone to "create seamless, cohesive composites." Like most of Adobe's generative AI features, Harmonize gives you different options to choose from, so you're not locked into a single result. If one version doesn't quite hit the mark, you can cycle through alternatives until you find the perfect match for your composition. I heavily rely on Adobe's Remove tool, so I'm already excited to play around with Harmonize in my everyday workflow. Photoshop's improved Remove tool and Generative Upscale are game-changers for everyday edits Speaking of the Remove tool, Adobe also announced an improved version powered by the latest Firefly Image Model. Adobe claims that the improved Remove tool "helps you clean up your images with more precision and quality than ever before." In addition to removing unwanted elements, the improved Remove tool also generates realistic content to fill the gaps with "better quality and accuracy." Image Credit: Adobe What really stood out to me was that the Remove tool doesn't consume generative AI credits, meaning you can use it as much as you want without worrying about running out, something that's especially useful for everyday edits and batch cleanups. If you constantly need to upscale images, you likely know how quality takes a dip once you start enlarging things beyond their original resolution. That's why another feature, Generative Upscale, caught my attention. This feature allows you to bring high-quality resolution enhancements up to 8 megapixels without sacrificing image clarity. Adobe also introduced Projects, which it described as a "new way to manage and organize your creative work." Projects essentially bring together assets into a shared, organized page and help keep everything you need in one place. Finally, Adobe announced the Gen AI Model Picker, which allows you to choose between different Firefly Image models (Firefly Image 1 and Firefly Image 3) when you're using Photoshop's Generative Fill and Generative Expand tools. The Harmonize feature is available in beta across Photoshop on desktop and web, and in early access on iOS starting today. Generative Upscale and the improved Remove tool are both available on Photoshop desktop and web, and the Gen AI Model Picker is available within Photoshop desktop.

Photoshop's newest AI tool makes it easy to upscale old photos
Adobe is rolling out a series of new Photoshop tools in beta that it claims will eliminate "tedious steps, reduce friction, and make precision editing faster and more intuitive." The new features include Generative Upscale for desktop and web, allowing you to enhance images by up to 8 megapixels before losing quality. This tool can be used for things such as improving photos you want to print or updating older files. According to Adobe, this feature has been one of the most requested among its users. Then there's the updated Remove tool, courtesy of the new Adobe Firefly Image Model. It does all the tidying and erasing you would expect, but also should provide a more realistic image. As Adobe puts it, there should be "fewer artifacts" left of the thumb, background people or whatever else you removed from the photo. It's also available in beta on desktop and web. Adobe is also rolling out the Harmonize feature, first discussed as Project Perfect Blend during the company's October 2024 Max conference. Powered by the Adobe firefly Image Model, Harmonize "intelligently analyzes the surrounding context, automatically adjusting color, lighting, shadows, and visual tone to create seamless, cohesive composites." Adobe claims this will reduce the time needed for manual adjustments. On top of trying out the beta on desktop or web, it's also available in Early Access for mobile iOS users. You can now use the Gen AI Model Picker to move between the different Firefly Image Models, as they each offer something a bit different when using the tools. Plus, Photoshop is rolling out something else in beta called Projects which, well, manages your projects. It should keep all your files in one place and let you send out entire collections, rather than one version at a time.

Adobe Photoshop new "Harmonize" tool uses AI to blend images with pro-level realism
The big picture: As generative AI reshapes creative workflows across industries, Adobe has rapidly evolved Photoshop to meet the growing demand for advanced AI tools. Complex editing tasks once reserved for professionals are now accessible to casual users. These changes in Photoshop also reflect a broader shift in software capabilities and how creativity could be redefined in an AI-augmented design landscape. At the heart of this release is Harmonize, a compositing feature that streamlines a process that once required significant technical skill. Rather than painstakingly matching color, lighting, shadows, and tone when blending an object into a photograph, users can now select their desired elements, and Harmonize's AI-driven engine will automatically adjust the new addition to merge it with the rest of the image convincingly. Harmonize, which builds on technology shown in last year's Project Perfect Blend demo, is now available in beta for desktop and web users and is being tested in early access on the Photoshop iOS app. Another significant and useful addition is an AI-powered upscaling tool. This feature allows images to be enlarged up to 8 megapixels in resolution without the usual trade-off in sharpness or clarity. According to Adobe, this has been a highly requested feature in Photoshop. For the past few years, upscaling tools have been offered as standalone applications or as part of competing software like Pixelmator Pro (now owned by Apple), with real-world results improving considerably thanks to advances in AI. Traditional upscaling methods relied on basic interpolation techniques such as bicubic or bilinear scaling, which often produced blurry or pixelated results when increasing image size. In contrast, modern AI-driven upscaling leverages deep learning models trained on large datasets. These models learn to reconstruct fine details and textures that would otherwise be lost, resulting in sharper, more natural-looking enlargements. The update also enhances Photoshop's object removal tool. Previously, attempts to erase unwanted objects could result in odd artifacts - or, sometimes, the generation of new and unrelated elements that didn't belong in the scene. Adobe says this latest version brings greater precision, more realistic fills, and "listens" to instructions to simply remove an object rather than introduce something in its place. Photoshop's new Projects feature puts all creative assets in one shared workspace for easier file management and teamwork. This streamlining aims to reduce version confusion and cumbersome manual handoffs, making group work more efficient. In addition, the update introduces a Generative AI Model Picker, allowing users to select from various AI engines - such as Firefly Image 1 or Firefly Image 3 - for Photoshop's Generative Fill and Generative Expand functions. As these features make advanced editing more accessible, questions continue to arise around safety and ethics. While previous AI tools in Photoshop included strict restrictions against creating deepfakes, explicit content, or violent imagery, Harmonize imposes fewer technical limitations - merely asking users to supply their own source images. Although Photoshop attaches digital Content Credentials to edited files (embedding information about how and when manipulation occurred) these measures are intended to support transparency and accountability rather than prevent misuse outright. Adobe's approach to responsible AI image editing remains largely unchanged, placing the responsibility on users to follow its policies.

Adobe Photoshop Is Getting Four New Features
Summary Photoshop's latest Beta update introduces Harmonize, automating image composites' color adjustments for a cohesive look. Generative Upscale increases image resolution with AI, preserving detail and clarity up to 8 megapixels. The New Projects feature creates a centralized workspace for managing different files and assets in a single project. Photoshop is a tremendously useful tool in general, and it's also one of the few apps I'd say has adapted well to the AI era, with a handful of small but useful AI features. We're now getting a look at some of the additions for 2025, and there's one in particular I've really been looking forward to. Adobe has announced a slew of new features that are coming to Photoshop in beta and are, presumably, going to become available with Photoshop's CC 2026 version later this year. For the past two years, the biggest additions to Photoshop have been AI-focused thanks to Adobe's Firefly model, and for this year, it's no different. We have, for example, Harmonize. This part is supposed to take the hard work out of putting together a composite image -- after all, you probably know how hard it is to realistically blend an element from one image into another. Traditionally, this requires meticulous manual adjustments of color balance, brightness, contrast, and shadows to make a pasted object match the lighting and tone of its new background. The tool, then, analyzes the color and tonal properties of the background layer and intelligently applies a matching look to the foreground object. It adjusts hue, saturation, and luminosity, and it helps create a cohesive final image where all elements appear to exist in the same environment. This feature, if it works properly, could dramatically reduce the time spent on manual color grading for composite work. Related Adobe Photoshop Now Has a Full-featured Phone Version With actual editing features. Posts 1 We also have Generative Upscale, which is one I'm particularly excited for. This feature allows users to increase the dimensions and pixel count of an image while preserving detail and clarity. According to Adobe, the tool can boost image resolution up to a final size of 8 megapixels. Currently, Photoshop tries to keep as much detail as possible when upscaling something without using AI, using various resample methods you can switch between to find the one that works the most for you. But it's not great. There are a few AI upscale tools online that use generative AI to increase an image in size and resolution. This would, presumably, be identical to those tools. The Remove Tool is also getting a neat model upgrade that makes it a lot more accurate. We also have a new Projects feature. The tool provides a dedicated space within Photoshop to group and manage all the assets associated with a single project. You can gather different files, layers, and related documents into one centralized location, helping you see that all components of a project are easily accessible from one place. We don't know if this is everything new that we'll see in Photoshop for this year, but even if it is, I'm more than fine with it. The update is now available for Beta users, and you'll want to wait for the final update if you don't want to mess around with beta-grade software. Source: Adobe

Adobe adds one of its most-requested updates to Photoshop
The new features are in beta, and will require a subscription to use. Adobe has finally delivered on one of the most requested features in Photoshop: image upscaling, as well as improved abilities to insert and remove objects from photographs and other images. Adobe said Tuesday that the new additions are arriving on the desktop edition of Photoshop as well as the web, though you'll need an ongoing Photoshop or Adobe Creative Cloud subscription to take advantage of them. The new updates pit older generations of users against new, modern digital artists. If you own a scrapbook or physical photo album of printed photos, you may have used Google PhotoScan (for Android) to create those printed photos and add them to your physical photo albums. The problem, of course, is that they might be old and grainy, especially if you're like me and didn't have access to the latest and greatest film cameras. Upscaling uses AI to smooth and polish those grainy photos in an attempt to add back what the camera couldn't capture. Adobe calls this Generative Upscale, and it's been added to the Photoshop beta for desktop and the web. Windows already has a free image upscaler hidden away within the Photos app, called Super Resolution. Unfortunately, it's locked to Copilot+ PCs, as it uses the NPU to inject more pixels. Photoshop historically has used the CPU, GPU, and the cloud to polish up your images. That polish is receiving an upgrade today, too. Harmonize is a new Photoshop feature that improves the way in which objects can be added to a photo. Think of it as the opposite of "Photoshopping" out an object -- doing so removes the object, its shadow, and so on. Harmonize does the opposite: When you add an object in, it automatically examines the scene and adjusts the lighting and other effects, blending it in. Harmonize isn't just available on desktop and on the web, but within the Early Access version of the Photoshop app for iOS. Adobe also said that it has tweaked Photoshop's ability to remove objects, so that highlighted content is removed and (optionally) replaces it with AI-generated objects. The idea is that removing parts of the scene won't be as noticeable as adding back content helps to blend the scene. Adobe is also allowing users to choose between different Firefly Image Models (Firefly Image 1 and Firefly Image 3) when using Generative Fill and Expand, the company said.

Photoshop Gets New AI Editing Tools
Adobe today announced several new and enhanced AI tools for Photoshop, with the additions aimed at making it easier for creators to tweak and clean up their images. With Harmonize, Photoshop users can add a new object into an image or composition, and the app will analyze the surrounding content to automatically adjust color, lighting, shadows, and visual tone so that the object seamlessly fits in. Adobe says that the feature streamlines the creation of composite images and reduces the time needed for manual adjustments. Harmonize is available across Photoshop for desktop, the web, and mobile devices. Generative Upscale provides resolution enhancements up to eight megapixels without impacting image clarity. The feature is able to improve image quality for print, or to boost the resolution of older files. Generative Upscale can be used on desktop and the web. Adobe improved the Remove tool in Photoshop, and it now uses the latest Adobe Firefly Image Model. The updated Remove tool is able to more precisely erase unwanted objects from images, filling the gaps with realistic content. Edits will have fewer artifacts for a cleaner end result. The improved Remove tool is available for desktop and the web. In Photoshop for the desktop, there's a new Projects option for managing and organizing creative work. Assets are aggregated into a shared, organized space, eliminating issues with collaboration and communication. Projects is designed to allow Photoshop users to share entire collections at once to cut down on versioning issues.

Adobe Photoshop Can Upscale Your Old, Low-Res Photos Using AI
Adobe announced a series of Photoshop updates today, including a new AI-powered feature called Generative Upscale. The new tool, powered by Adobe's Firefly generative AI, allows photographers to upscale images with improved sharpness, clarity, and resolution. Generative Upscale can increase image resolution by up to eight megapixels, offering scaling options of 2x, 3x, or 4x. Designed to produce high-quality results with minimal manual input, the feature targets a wide range of users, from professionals to casual creators, who require cleaner, more detailed versions of very old or low-res digital photos. Adobe describes the tool as valuable for photographers, designers, and social media professionals. For those working with older or lower-resolution files, Generative Upscale helps prepare images for print or digital platforms without noticeable quality loss. The feature has been among the most requested additions from the Photoshop user community, according to the company. "We're introducing Generative Upscale in beta for Photoshop on desktop and web, bringing high-quality resolution enhancements up to 8 megapixels without sacrificing image clarity. If you're a photographer, Generative Upscale is helpful for refining edits and especially useful for enhancing image quality for print, delivery, or reworking older files," Adobe stated. "This has been one of the most requested updates from the Photoshop community." Inside the latest Photoshop (beta) version, users can select Image > Generative Upscale from the menu. A dialog box allows users to choose a scale factor, and Photoshop generates a new high-resolution version of the image in a separate document. Currently in beta, the tool has an output limitation of 4,096 pixels in both width and height. If the selected scale exceeds this limit, Photoshop will prompt the user with options to adjust the size. In addition to enlarging images, Generative Upscale enhances image sharpness and clarity by analyzing pixel data and intelligently resampling. This complements other AI features already integrated into Photoshop, such as Neural Filters and Photo Restoration, allowing users to refine photos, correct flaws, and even colorize old black-and-white images. Users can also manually adjust print dimensions while preserving image quality. Photoshop includes tools for maintaining aspect ratio, resampling using various interpolation methods, and refining layer styles to support high-quality output at larger sizes. Alongside Generative Upscale in beta, the regular public release of Photoshop now features an improved Remove tool powered by the latest Adobe Firefly Image Model. Adobe says it will clean up images with "more precision and quality than ever before." "Whether you're erasing stray power lines, tidying up a portrait backdrop, or polishing a product photo, the Remove tool not only eliminates unwanted elements but also generates realistic content that fills the gaps with better quality and accuracy," Adobe promises. "Edits blend more naturally into the background with fewer artifacts, so your results look cleaner, more professional, and ready to share." Another new feature, Harmonize, is available now in beta across desktop, web, and mobile. First previewed as "Project Perfect Blend" at Adobe MAX 2024, this new beta promises improved compositing tools, allowing users to more naturally blend elements into existing photos. When the user adds a new object to their image when using Harmonize, it automatically analyzes the scene and adjusts the color, lighting, shadows, and "visual tone" to elegantly blend the new object into the existing scene. Adobe says this will significantly reduce the need for manual adjustments during compositing, which could be a significant time-saver for many Photoshop users. Generative Upscale is currently available through the Photoshop (Beta) desktop application and Photoshop on the web (Beta). Interested users can try the feature by starting a free trial or by accessing it through their existing Creative Cloud subscription.

Adobe Photoshop Beta Auto-Exposure AI Tool - AI-Driven Remove Tool
Adobe is experimenting with several new AI functions in the current Photoshop beta to simplify tasks that traditionally require multiple manual adjustments. By integrating generative models from its Firefly platform, Adobe is testing a trio of features -- Harmonize, Generative Upscale, and an upgraded Remove tool -- that handle exposure matching, resolution enhancement, and content-aware editing, respectively. At its core, Harmonize is designed to automatically match the lighting and color characteristics of a pasted or composited object to its surrounding scene. You start by importing an element into your canvas. The tool then analyzes existing light direction, shadow intensity, and color temperature. It uses those data points to re-render the object with various exposure, contrast, and white balance tweaks. Instead of manually tweaking curves, levels, and color balance sliders, you choose from a handful of AI‐generated previews that already integrate convincingly. This doesn't replace fine-tuning entirely -- photographers and designers can still adjust strength sliders -- but it reduces the trial-and-error steps you'd normally take. Generative Upscale takes on the common problem of enlarging images without losing sharpness or introducing blur. Rather than just interpolating pixels in a traditional sense, the algorithm identifies edges, textures, and patterns within the original image and then synthesizes new detail to fill in expanded areas. You can push your canvas up to eight megapixels, which covers most online and many print use cases, without expecting blocky artifacts or smearing. This is particularly useful when working with assets that were shot or exported at lower resolutions but still need to fit a higher-res layout. Since it runs on desktop and web betas alike, you can upscale on-the-fly whether you're at your workstation or remotely collaborating via Creative Cloud. The Remove tool has received one of its biggest upgrades in years by incorporating the Firefly Image Model. Instead of relying on the older content-aware fill algorithm, it now taps into a deep generative network that predicts what should occupy the space you designate for removal. You simply draw a mask around unwanted subjects -- whether they're blemishes, wires, or entire background objects -- and let the model fill in the resulting gap. Early testers report that it handles complex textures, like foliage or patterned walls, more convincingly than previous versions. It also better preserves the continuity of light and shadow, so filled areas blend in without noticeable transition lines. All three updates are currently available in beta across desktop (macOS and Windows), the web interface, and on iOS devices. Adobe has not yet confirmed when these features will graduate from beta to the main Photoshop release, but testing is open to anyone participating in the Photoshop Beta program. By automating tedious technical adjustments, these tools aim to let creatives focus more on composition and storytelling rather than pixel-level corrections -- though manual controls remain, preserving the precision and flexibility professionals expect. As AI models continue to evolve, these early experiments hint at a future where complex editing tasks happen in a fraction of the time, without sacrificing quality or control.

Adobe's new AI in Photoshop unblurs like never before
Adobe has unveiled new AI-powered features for Photoshop, leveraging its Firefly Image Models to streamline image editing and enhance creative workflows. This announcement follows the recent launch of a Photoshop application for Android devices, indicating a broader strategy to integrate advanced AI functionalities across its product ecosystem. The updates are designed to reduce the time spent on routine photo-editing tasks, allowing users to concentrate on more creative aspects of their projects. The integration of generative AI such as ChatGPT and Gemini has demonstrated the potential for simplified image creation and photo editing. These tools have enabled users to achieve Photoshop-like results without requiring extensive technical expertise. The method involves using a text prompt, and the AI system then handles the image creation and editing processes automatically. Adobe's response has been to invest further in AI, developing proprietary AI models specifically designed to augment its existing suite of creative tools. Adobe just put Photoshop on your iPhone and it's free Adobe's Firefly AI models are now integral to the core functionality of its creative software, including Photoshop. The company's response to the rise of AI has been to create its own models. The newest update to Photoshop has delivered AI functionalities. These tools will allow creators to focus on creative tasks. A key addition to Photoshop is the Generative Upscale tool, which addresses the common issue of blurry or poorly focused images. Adobe identified this feature as a highly requested update from the Photoshop user community. The Generative Upscale tool employs AI algorithms to reduce blur and noise, resulting in sharper and more detailed images with minimal user intervention. The tool is available in beta and enhances images up to 8 megapixels. Generative Upscale polishes the entire photo, removing blur and noise simultaneously. Video: Adobe While Google Photos offers a similar capability through its Photo Unblur tool, Adobe's implementation is intended to provide a more comprehensive solution within the Photoshop environment. The new AI tools are scheduled for release on Tuesday. Users can access Generative Upscale, Harmonize, the updated Remove tool, and the Projects feature through the Photoshop beta on desktop and web platforms, as well as the iPhone Photoshop application. Beyond Generative Upscale, Adobe introduced Harmonize, a tool designed to seamlessly blend objects into photographs. This feature, previously showcased as Project Perfect Blend at Adobe Max last October, uses AI to analyze and match color, lighting, shadows, and visual tone, ensuring that the inserted object integrates naturally with the existing image. Harmonize ensures that objects introduced in photos blend believably. The Remove tool has been enhanced with support for the latest Adobe Firefly Image model, available on both Photoshop desktop and web versions. This update provides increased precision and quality in removing unwanted elements from images. The improved Remove tool generates more realistic content for replacing removed elements, ensuring a more seamless integration with the surrounding background. The Remove tool generates more realistic content to replace the removed elements. The inclusion of multiple Firefly models gives users a choice. Users can select between Firefly Image 1 and Firefly Image 3 when utilizing Generative Fill and Generative Expand tools via the new Gen AI Model Picker. This flexibility allows users to tailor the AI processing to their specific needs and preferences. To improve project management, Adobe introduced a Projects feature for the Photoshop desktop beta experience. This feature aims to provide a centralized and organized workspace for creative projects. The Projects feature creates a shared, organized space for each project, which is intended to improve productivity. It allows a single location for all files and assets. The single location helps in sharing work with others and collaborating on creative tasks.

Photoshop's New Harmonize Tool Can Blend Objects In Images With One Click
Adobe is also releasing Projects that allow users to share collections Adobe Photoshop is getting several new artificial intelligence (AI) features to make it easier for users to make complex edits. Announced on Tuesday, the software giant released a new Harmonize tool that can blend objects with realism in compositions within seconds, just by tapping on the tool. The company is also adding an image upscaler tool that can enhance the resolution of any image using generative AI. Photoshop's existing object removal feature is also being upgraded, and it can now generate elements and blend them into the image. While Adobe Photoshop remains one of the most sophisticated photo editing platforms, it also has a very steep learning curve that often puts off hobbyists from using the software. However, with the emergence of generative AI, the company has been introducing new features that somewhat lower this barrier. The latest effort from the software giant now includes an AI-powered blending tool, as per its blog post. Dubbed Harmonize, the new tool is currently available in beta across Photoshop on desktop and web, as well as on the iOS app (early access). Powered by the Adobe Firefly Image model, the tool can blend an object being added to an existing composition. It uses AI to analyse the surrounding context and adjusts the colour, lighting, shadows, and visual tone to create cohesive composites. The company says this AI tool will eliminate the need to make manual adjustments to blend an object, which can often be time-consuming. Adobe is also adding an upscaling tool dubbed Generative Upscale to Photoshop on desktop and web. Available in beta, the tool can enhance images up to 8-megapixels without distorting the clarity. The company says it was one of the most requested features from the Photoshop community. Additionally, the existing Remove tool is now powered by the latest Adobe Firefly Image model, and the company says it cleans up images with higher precision. It is available on Photoshop desktop and web, and the tool can now generate realistic content to fill the gaps after eliminating unwanted elements. Apart from this, the company is also introducing a couple of non-AI features to Photoshop as well. First is Projects, which is available in beta in Photoshop desktop. It allows users to share their entire collection at once, instead of sharing individual assets manually. Second, Photoshop desktop is getting a new Gen AI Model Picker. It is a dropdown menu that contains all the different Firefly Image models (Firefly Image 1 and Firefly Image 3) when using tools such as Generative Fill and Generative Expand. Adobe says this model picker will give users more flexibility when using AI features.

Photoshop finally has an AI tool that's actually useful
Just when you're thinking of cancelling your subscription because of Adobe's price hike, the software giant goes and drops a new Photoshop update including what could be the most useful AI tool yet. In Beta today, Photoshop's Harmonize might help justify the price rise for anyone that often has to create composite images, helping it retain its place among the best digital art software. Generative Fill already allowed the addition of AI-generated content to images, but creating composites from your own images could still involve a long manual slog. But Harmonize looks to achieve the kind of composites that would take Photoshop whizzes sometimes hours of work, blending two images together even when they were shot in completely different lighting conditions. Available in beta today, Photoshop's Harmonize was previewed as Project Perfect Blend back at Adobe Max last year. Powered by Adobe Firefly AI, it can automatically adjust the colour, lighting, shadows and tone of a new image layer in order to match the underlying image, making it possible to create realistic-looking composites in just a few clicks. To blend people or objects into a different background, you can add them as a new image layer, select the subject or object, remove the background and then click 'Harmonize'. Firefly AI analyses and adjusts the new element, adding shadows when needed, and you're provided with several variations so you can choose the most convincing. Photoshop has long been the go-to tool for image composites, but matching images with big differences in lighting could be a laborious process, particularly if there were shadows involved. This looks like an AI tools that will actually be useful in a game-changing way. Many AI features in Photoshop have felt like upgrades to existing tools - the Remove Tool is a like a more reliable Content-Aware Fill. But Harmonize feels like an entire workflow condensed into a new single-click tool. It could be a game-changer for many uses cases, particularly product photography, moodboarding and experimenting with ideas for campaign materials. Also in beta, Generative Upscale for Photoshop desktop and web can enhance image resolution up to 8 megapixels for more detailed results without losing clarity. This should avoid the need to use a separate upscaler when you're preparing prints or using older material shot at lower resolution. Adobe notes that it can also be used for photo restoration and to upscale AI-generated images. Meanwhile, the Remove Tool has been given an upgrade and is now powered by a dedicated AI model instead of the same model for Generative Fill. This seems to make it more precise, with less chance of it adding random objects when it removes unwanted elements. I'm told it also provides better texture matching. Unlike Harmonize and the existing Generative Fill, this doesn't use generative credits. As for Generative Fill and Generative Expand. Adobe's adding an option to choose which Firefly model you want to use for each generation. Finally Projects on Photoshop desktop (beta) introduces a new streamlined way to group assets and collaborate with simpler file management. The latest update comes just a few weeks after the launch of Photoshop for Android. See pricing below.
