Gemini Is Down? Live Updates on Google Workspace's AI Errors
It's not just you. Many Google users are encountering "Something went wrong" issues on Wednesday. If you logged onto Google Workspace on Wednesday morning and couldn't get the Gemini AI assistant to work properly, you're not alone. Google confirmed at 3 a.m. PT that it was experiencing issues with Gemini in a dashboard status page. Google said it does not yet know the cause of the issue. It's unclear how many Google users are impacted. DownDetector has received over 1,300 reports of malfunctions with Google Gemini since 6 a.m. ET. (Disclosure: DownDetector is owned by the same parent company as CNET, Ziff Davis.) This is a developing story.

Google Gemini is down for many -- here's what we know about the potential outage so far
If you're seeing error messages on Google Gemini today, you're not alone -- a spike in reports shows that the AI chatbot is struggling for many users this morning, despite the lack of any official outage so far. The problems seemingly started at around 6.11am ET / 11.11am GMT, which is when a large spike in reports appeared on Downdetector in both the US and UK. Right now, there are 480 reports in the US and 440 in the UK. There's no official problems on the Gemini status page, which currently states that "all systems are currently operational". But you can follow all of the latest news on the reported problems with us here in this live report...

Gemini Is Down
Barring some catastrophic issue, Google will likely have Gemini back up and running shortly. If you tried to use Google's Gemini AI on Wednesday morning, you might have run into an error message or two. If so, don't worry, it's not just you: Gemini appears to be down for a number of users (myself included). Even if you don't personally use Gemini, you can see the issues from Downdetector, which compiles user reports of downtime across apps, sites, and services. (Disclosure, Lifehacker parent company Ziff Davis also owns Downdetector.) As of this article, Downdetector is showing thousands of user reports, starting at roughly 6:19 a.m. ET. The reports started small, but began ramping up as the morning continued, jumping sharply after 8 a.m. My guess is that workers on the East Coast started trying to use Gemini this morning, and quickly ran into problems -- some of whom ran to Downdectector to report. Google's official Workspace status page also lists an "incident" with Gemini, which it says started at 10:26 a.m. UTC (6:26 a.m. ET). While the cause of the issue isn't clear, Google will likely have Gemini back up and running shortly. These outages happen from time to time, to companies big and small. Barring some catastrophic issue, or a widespread problem with a cloud hosting provider, Gemini should be operational sometime this morning. But if anything changes for the worse, I'll keep this article updated.

Google Gemini outage affects users reporting error 1076 and 1099
Search interest for is Gemini down spiked as users reported widespread access issues with Google's popular AI service. Many users are unable to start new chats or send prompts, with repeated connection errors appearing across both web and mobile versions. The disruption has been confirmed by Google through its Workspace status updates, although no full resolution timeline has been provided. Is Gemini down for everyone? Users began reporting failures when sending prompts, often receiving system messages instead of responses. The most common issues include: * Chat requests failing to send or immediately resetting * New conversations not loading properly * Repeated error prompts blocking input Reports indicate the issue affects multiple regions and is not tied to a specific device type or browser. When the Gemini outage started The first major spike in reports appeared early morning hours in US time zones, followed by rapid increases across Europe. Tracking platforms showed hundreds of simultaneous reports within a short time window, suggesting a backend service disruption rather than isolated user errors. What is Gemini error 1076 and error 1099 Two error codes have been widely reported: * Error 1076 is commonly associated with connection timeouts during chat initialization. In practice, it appears when a session fails to establish properly. * Error 1099 is typically linked to server-side instability, where the request reaches Google systems but cannot be processed. Users report that both errors can appear interchangeably depending on the request type and session state. Google status updates and current situation Google has acknowledged an ongoing incident affecting Gemini services and stated that engineering teams are actively investigating. However, the company has not provided an estimated fix time. While some users report partial recovery, others continue to experience failures when submitting new prompts, keeping search interest around is Gemini down elevated. Temporary fixes users are trying No official workaround has been confirmed, but several short-term methods appear to help in some cases: * Resubmitting the same prompt immediately after failure * Starting a new chat session instead of continuing an existing thread * Logging out and logging back into the account * Using private or incognito browser windows These methods do not guarantee stability but may reduce repeated errors during the outage window. Nowadays, even short service interruptions can block basic tasks like drafting text, searching, or coding assistance. For now, users are advised to monitor Google's status dashboard and retry requests periodically as systems stabilize.

This disruption matters because even short service interruptions can block basic tasks that users increasingly rely on AI chatbots to perform. For organizations integrating Google Gemini into their workflows through Google Workspace, such outages can affect productivity across teams. The incident raises questions about redundancy and failover systems for AI services that are becoming critical business tools. Users are advised to monitor Google's status dashboard and retry requests periodically as systems stabilize, though the lack of a clear resolution timeline leaves many uncertain about when full service will resume.
