Google Gemini to Adopt Search's Autocomplete Feature, Enhancing User Experience

The feature doesn't seem to work in existing conversations, nor through the Gemini overlay, though this could change if and when Google officially rolls out the feature. The commonly on-point autocomplete is one of the small, quality-of-life features that helped Google Search achieve its popularity. It helped cement Search's position at the top, as it helped save users from typing out complete search queries, especially for popular searches. With Search now firmly in the AI era, Google's AI-centric products like Gemini could also use some help from autocomplete. It seems that's on the horizon, as we've now spotted Google implementing autocomplete for queries within the Gemini for Android app.

The latest one that we just learned about from the Android Authority's APK teardown of Google app v16.21.55 beta is something that you'll want to use daily in Gemini, as it can save you a lot of time. You're already familiar with Gemini's upcoming time-saving feature The feature is pretty basic yet a powerful one, and we are all used to it on Google Search, so much so that we barely notice it anymore. The APK teardown of the said version of the Google app beta found the autocomplete feature, something we all use on Google Search to avoid typing the remaining text and save time. Since Android Authority managed to activate the feature on Gemini, we also got a glimpse of how it'll work on the app. Unsurprisingly, it works exactly the same as Google Search. As can be seen in the demo video above, the autocomplete capability shows you several suggested queries after you type a few characters. As is the case with the autocomplete functionality in Google Search, the suggested terms get more accurate as you keep typing in the text field. Of course, we'll be able to reject those suggestions if you don't see what you need and type the entire text to get the desired results. Google is currently working on this feature, so it's far from perfect and obviously not ready for consumers. One of the major issues with the current implementation of the autocomplete functionality is that it only works when you start a new chat from the app's main screen. It currently doesn't work with the Gemini overlay. However, all of these caveats may go away when Google releases this feature for everyone. Unfortunately, we're still in the dark about when it'll be available for the general users. It'll be interesting to see if this autocomplete feature becomes available before the arrival of the Circle Screen feature in the Gemini overlay.
