Google Weather in Search testing gen AI summaries
When you search for "weather" on mobile, Google is testing generative AI summaries for local conditions. Google is showing this new card between the hourly and 10-day forecasts. By default, you get two lines of text before needing to tap and expand. Like other similar experiences, Google notes how "Generative AI is experimental" at the bottom. Southern California mountain and foothills areas face gusty winds and thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon. A low-pressure system is bringing thunderstorms, dry lightning, and rip currents to the coast. Strong winds could knock down tree limbs, and dry lightning poses a wildfire risk. The weather should improve by Wednesday, with a warming trend expected by the weekend. Tapping the link icon at the end brings up a sheet with articles about weather in your area that Google presumably used to create the AI Overviews-like summary. As such, this differs from the AI Weather Report on the Pixel 9, with the Google Search experience making for a more descriptive read that explains the underlying conditions. We're seeing this with the search terms: "weather Los Angeles" and "weather San Diego." This experience looks limited to Southern California, with other cities in the state (like San Francisco) not returning this AI weather summary. As such, this is most likely still in the testing phase. So far, this is appearing just in the Google app and mobile web on a handful of signed-in accounts (one has the "AI Overviews and more" Search Lab enabled and the other doesn't). It does not appear when logged out or on desktop web. This is only appearing in Google Search results and not the app-like "Google Weather" that opens a fullscreen experience.

Google Weather in Search Could Soon Show AI Overviews-Style Summaries
Google Weather is not showing AI summaries for any Indian cities Google Weather in Search is reportedly testing a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature that will show a short text summary of current weather conditions. As per the report, the feature currently shows up for some US cities, and describes local conditions such as wind, probability of rain, any pressure-system build-up, and temperature patterns. This AI-generated feature is reportedly only visible when users look for the weather of a city on Google Search via the Google app on Android and iOS. According to a 9to5Google report, the Mountain View-based tech giant is testing a new AI feature within the Google Weather experience in Search. Currently, when users search for weather in their city or another region, a widget-like experience opens up that shows a visual card, as well as other details such as precipitation, wind, and humidity. This text summary reportedly appears between the hourly and 10-day forecast infographics. Based on the example shared by the publication, the summary includes information such as wind formations, pressure systems, rain and thunderstorm possibilities, as well as temperature rise and drop patterns. The summary is followed by a URL icon, tapping which opens a list of websites users can check to get more details, as per the report. Google is also said to be displaying a message underneath the summary which says, "Generative AI is experimental." This AI-generated summary is reportedly only appearing for certain cities. The publication found it working for "weather Los Angeles" and "weather San Diego," while other cities did not show it. Gadgets 360 staff members were not able to see the AI summary for the mentioned cities, which means that access to the feature is likely limited to some users in the US. It is unclear when the company might release it widely. Notably, the report claimed that the feature can currently only be seen in the Google app and mobile web. It does not appear when a user is logged out of their Google account or on the desktop web.

Google is experimenting with AI-generated weather summaries in its search results, providing concise, localized weather information for select US cities.
Google is testing a new feature that incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) to provide concise weather summaries in its search results. This experimental addition aims to enhance the user experience by offering more detailed and localized weather information 1.
The AI-generated summaries appear between the hourly and 10-day forecasts in Google's weather search results. Users can view two lines of text by default, with the option to expand for more information. Google has labeled this feature as "Generative AI is experimental," indicating its ongoing development 1.
Currently, the feature is limited to certain US cities, with confirmed sightings for Los Angeles and San Diego. It is accessible through the Google app and mobile web for some signed-in accounts, regardless of whether they have the "AI Overviews and more" Search Lab enabled 2.
The AI-generated summaries provide comprehensive information about local weather conditions, including:
For instance, a summary for Southern California highlighted gusty winds, thunderstorm risks, and potential wildfire hazards due to dry lightning 1.
The summaries include a link icon that, when tapped, reveals a list of articles about local weather conditions. This suggests that Google may be using these sources to generate the AI summaries 1.

It's worth noting that this feature differs from the AI Weather Report available on the Pixel 9 smartphone. The Search experience offers a more descriptive read, explaining underlying weather conditions in detail 1.
As of now, the AI-generated summaries are not available for all locations. Cities like San Francisco and various Indian cities do not yet have access to this feature 2. The feature is also absent from desktop web searches and when users are logged out of their Google accounts.
Given its experimental nature, it's likely that Google will continue to refine and expand this feature before a wider rollout. The integration of AI into weather forecasting represents another step in Google's ongoing efforts to enhance its search capabilities and provide more valuable, context-rich information to users.
