The AI hardware space is evolving beyond screenless pins and clip-on wearables. While existing devices like the PLAUD NotePin focus on discreet voice capture that relies entirely on a companion smartphone app, Flowtica is taking a different approach. Unveiled at IFA 2026, the newly announced Flowtica Verso is a magnetic AI companion that snaps onto the back of your smartphone and features an always-on e-paper display to keep your summaries, schedules, and AI insights visible at a glance. Unlike traditional AI voice recorders that act as screenless "black boxes," the Flowtica Verso delivers its core experience directly on the hardware. It integrates a 259ppi e-paper touchscreen that keeps meeting summaries, calendars, and action items visible without forcing you to open a mobile app. The MagSafe-compatible companion weighs 98 grams and is built from a premium aluminum-magnesium alloy. You can magnetically attach the Verso to your phone, set it on a desk stand, or wear it on a lanyard. Its distraction-free interface is designed to do the opposite of modern smartphone screens: quietly presenting crucial next steps while keeping you present in the room. Under the hood, the Verso packs hardware designed specifically for meeting capture. Its audio system features four MEMS microphones paired with a bone-conduction microphone, which Flowtica claims can clearly capture voice from up to 5m away. It is also equipped with 64GB of onboard storage, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB-C for charging, up to 72 hours of battery life, and even an integrated NFC digital business card for quick contact sharing. On the privacy front, Flowtica has made some reassuring design choices. The Verso completely lacks a camera and features a physical, non-disableable recording LED indicator that remains illuminated whenever audio is captured, so anyone nearby knows when they are being recorded. Capturing a meeting takes just a single physical button press. Flowtica says its cloud AI can distinguish between up to 15 different speakers, generate multilingual transcripts, and automatically compile structured summaries complete with action items and decisions. For interactive queries, a physical "Ask AI" button lets users voice-search previous meetings, draft follow-up emails, or generate personalized AI dashboards. There is also a "FlowMark" button that lets you manually flag key decisions or ideas during a live recording without interrupting the flow of the conversation.

There are a lot of AI note taker devices out there, but could the Flowtica Verso be the first one we want to actually use? Made by the team that brought us the Flowtica Scribe, this is a far less incognito solution. It connects to the back of your phone and features an always-on e-paper screen, ready to keep you informed without opening an app. What does the Flowtica Verso do? At its heart, the Flowtica Verso is an AI voice recorder. It's made of aluminum and weighs 98 grams, and has a 259 pixel-per-inch (ppi) resolution, always-on e-paper screen on the front. Or back, depending on how you look at it. It uses four MEMS microphones and a bone-conduction microphone to capture audio from up to five meters away. Tap a single button and the Verso records meetings and conversations, isolating up to 15 different speakers, and then transcribes it automatically. The screen shows summaries, transcripts, calendars, and AI-produced insights. While the e-paper screen shows everything you need, the Flowtica app is still available for additional functionality. How about the battery life? The e-paper screen should be very power efficient, and Flowtica says the Verso's battery should last for 72 hours on a single charge, but it's not clear whether that's standby or recording. There's 64GB of internal storage space, and it connects using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and features NFC for digital business card exchanges too. The functionality is likely to be very similar to the Flowtica Scribe AI pen, and we'd also expect the same subscription packages to apply too. These relate to the amount of time you record meetings, but there is a free option if you don't intend to use it very often. What about compatibility and price? The Flowtica app is available for both Android and iOS, so there's no problem there, but it uses Apple MagSafe-compatible magnets to attach to the back of a phone. It means you either have to own an iPhone, or an Android device inside a case with MagSafe-compatible magnets in the back. It's possible Google Pixel phones with Pixelsnap magnets may be compatible without a case. The Flowtica Verso will be available before the end of the year and cost $299. If you really want one, Flowtica is offering a 25% discount for those who register early. Compared to AI note takers without a screen, such as the Mobvoi TicNote, the Verso is more interesting and potentially more useful due to the e-paper screen. Not offering an eBook reading app seems like a missed opportunity though.
