Google Drive launches "Catch me up" AI summaries about recent changes to your stored files.
Google is rolling out a new Gemini AI-powered feature to users with eligible Google Workspace or Google AI plans that pops up a "Catch me up" shortcut to go over recent edits in Google Docs, as well as comments on other types of files, complete with a warning that "Gemini may display inaccurate info." It's supposed to roll out over the next couple of weeks, providing either a high-level summary across all of your files in the sidebar or overviews of changes to a specific file via a new activity indicator.

Gemini in Google Drive adding 'Catch me up' command
The Gemini side panel in Google Drive offers one of the more powerful AI experiences in Workspace, with its latest capability being "Catch me up." This feature "helps users easily stay up to date on their files" by having Gemini "identify relevant files from a user's Drive with changes since it was last viewed and provide an overview of those changes." Those changes can include edits in Google Docs and new comments in Docs, Sheets, or Slides. The command is accessed as a new button in the "Ask Gemini" carousel of suggestions, with the side panel opening to generate bullet points. Catch me up can also be used on just one document. Gemini will "identify if there have been changes to that file since you last viewed it and provide an overview of what changed." A Gemini circle next to the file name in the list view indicates "changes to the file since the last time you viewed it." You tap to get the summary. Rolling out over the coming weeks, Catch me up is available for Google Workspace:

Google Drive gets AI-generated summaries of changes made to files
According to a recent Google Workspace Updates blog post, Google Drive now supports AI-generated summaries of changes made to files. The summaries are created by Google Gemini and the idea is to quickly catch you up on what's changed with your data. To get a summary, simply click the new Catch me up button in Google Drive. You'll then get a summary in the sidebar with an overview of all changes made to files. You can also do something similar within specific files, which will generate a synopsis of all the changes and comments made to that particular file since you last opened it. Google warns that Gemini's summaries may show incorrect information about the files. This new Google Drive feature is rolling out to users over the next two weeks, although it currently only works in English and is only available to Google Workspace users with Business Standard and Plus plans, Enterprise Standard and Plus plans, Google One AI Premium plan, and Gemini Education and Gemini Education Premium add-ons. It'll also be available to those who previously purchased the Gemini Business or Gemini Enterprise add-ons.
