Adobe has launched the public beta of Firefly AI Assistant, a conversational AI agent that coordinates multi-step tasks across its Creative Cloud suite. The tool orchestrates actions in Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, and other apps through natural language prompts. Adobe is also integrating with Anthropic's Claude to bring creative tools to third-party platforms.

Adobe Firefly AI Assistant Launches in Public Beta

Adobe has opened public beta access to its Firefly AI Assistant, marking a significant shift in how creative professionals interact with design software

1

. The conversational interface allows users to orchestrate complex creative workflows across multiple Creative Cloud applications without switching between programs. Instead of navigating individual tools in Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, Lightroom, or Adobe Express, users simply describe their creative intent using natural language prompts, and the AI Assistant handles execution

2

.

The public beta launch is now available globally for Creative Cloud Pro subscribers and paid Firefly plan holders across Pro, Pro Plus, and Premium tiers

1

. Eligible users receive complimentary daily generative credits during the beta period

Agentic AI Powers Cross-App Workflows

The core innovation behind Adobe Firefly lies in its agentic AI capabilities, which enable the system to independently interpret user requests, divide them into actionable steps, and select appropriate tools for execution

5

. This approach represents what Adobe calls "agentic creativity," where users define intent and AI systems handle the technical execution across interconnected creative workflows

2

.

The AI Assistant can tap into over 60 pro-grade tools across Adobe's ecosystem, including Auto Tone, Generative Fill, Remove Background, and Vectorize

4

. Users maintain control throughout the process, with the ability to intervene at any stage to refine outputs, accept or reject suggestions, and redirect the workflow

Pre-Built Creative Skills Streamline Creative Workflows

Adobe has introduced Creative Skills, which are pre-built agentic workflows designed around common creative tasks

1

. These include batch photo editing, mood board creation, portrait retouching, and social media asset generation optimized for platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and Facebook

For portrait editing, users can upload headshots and request adjustments such as lighting correction, background blur, and cropping, with the system applying multiple Adobe tools in sequence to produce production-ready images

2

. Video workflows support automatic resizing and reframing for platforms such as YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels, allowing horizontal footage to be adapted for vertical formats

Claude Integration Expands Adobe's Reach Beyond Creative Cloud

Adobe has introduced the Adobe for creativity connector for Anthropic's Claude, bringing Adobe's creative suite directly into the third-party chatbot

2

. This third-party integration allows users to initiate multi-step tasks without leaving Claude's environment. The connector can access more than 50 pro-grade tools across Adobe's ecosystem, including image editing, vector design, video formatting, and asset creation .

David Wadhwani, president of Adobe's creativity and productivity business, told Axios that allowing people to access Adobe tools within other chatbots could attract new customers. "Access to creativity is going to explode," he said. "We want to be the company that catalyzes that"

3

. Adobe is developing a lighter version of the assistant designed to work inside third-party chatbots, with Claude as the starting point

What This Means for Creative Professionals

The shift toward conversational interfaces and agentic AI represents a fundamental change in creative software interaction. Ely Greenfield, chief technology officer of Adobe's creative products business, explained: "Rather than having you have to, like, flip every pixel, we give you higher and higher level tools that allow you to express your creative intent. Gen AI is a big step in that direction. Agentic is a big step in that direction"

3

.

The AI Assistant learns user preferences over time, including preferred tools, workflows, and aesthetic choices, to deliver more consistent and tailored results

1

. This personalization aims to reduce workflow complexity, especially for users who may not be familiar with specific software tools or editing sequences

2

.

Adobe continues to expand support for external AI models within its apps, recently adding OpenAI's improved image model alongside Google's Veo 3.1, Runway's Gen-4.5, and ElevenLabs' Multilingual v2

4

. Greenfield indicated that adding agentic assistants into each of Adobe's individual apps is a priority, though no timeframe was provided
