The problems affected the Claude.ai desktop browser as well as the popular Anthropic services Cowork and Claude Code. "Claude.ai and Cowork are currently down for most users and some users may also have trouble logging into Claude Code. Thousands of users reported trouble accessing Claude, with user error reports spiking at approximately 10:30 a.m. ET, according to DownDetector. (DownDetector and Mashable are both owned by the same company, Ziff Davis.) By 1:00 p.m. ET, user error reports were slowing down, though DownDetector is still reporting ongoing problems with Claude AI. One Mashable editor was unable to access the free version of Claude on desktop, with an error message saying, "You've hit your limit for Claude messages. Please wait before trying again. For higher limits, explore our Pro plan." This, despite not having sent any messages to Claude previously. An additional pop-up states, "Service is temporarily busy. You can try again shortly." Rather than a true Claude outage, access may simply be temporarily restricted for free users. Claude has seen massive growth so far in 2026. In March, amid a feud with the Pentagon and Trump administration, an Anthropic spokesperson told Mashable the company was signing up more than 1 million new users a day.

The new capabilities will also be available to users of Anthropic's Claude AI model through a connector to Adobe, though Adobe did not disclose the financial arrangements between the firms. Claude Takes a Breather; Anthropic Confirms Outage and Immediate Fixes

Customers began reporting Claude outages early on Wednesday morning in the United States. These peaked around 1030 hours ET (around 2000 hours India) before slowing down over the next three hours as Anthropic began fixing whatever it was that led to the issue. It was well past midnight in India when things began normalising. And media reports suggested that Anthropic had confirmed the Claude outage while also revealed that the problems impacted the Claude.ai desktop browser, the services suite Cowork as well as Claude Code. "Claude.ai and Cowork are currently down for most users and some users may also have trouble logging into Claude Code. Our team is working to restore service and we're appreciative of everyone's understanding while we work through this," Mashable quoted a company spokesperson as saying. In an incident report filed on the Anthropic website, the Claude maker confirmed a major outage for about 40 minutes and a partial outage lasting 73 minutes. It also noted that the service had an overall uptime of 98.79% over the past 90 days. However, the company also confirmed that while the Claude API had fully recovered, they were fixing some ongoing errors for Claude AI. Though initially it was reported that there was some issue with Claude Cowork, the service did not report any issues on the Claude status page. Downdetector, a website that logs user reports of internet issues, saw around 2,000 users reporting issues with Claude around 1.00 a.m. India time. At its peak this number stood at 6,000 users around 8.00 p.m.
