The release is narrow and American. Selected US customers can register interest at the Farm Progress Show in Iowa, with wider availability promised later this year. It arrived with a data pledge attached. Ten principles say farmers control their farm data, that Deere does not sell it, and that they can switch off the flow to third parties at any time. Deere points to a record on this. It says it was the first agricultural equipment manufacturer to receive Ag Data Transparent certification, in 2018. In Europe most of that stopped being a pledge a year ago. The Data Act has applied to connected products since 12 September 2025. Its rights sit close to Deere's list. A user can obtain the data free of charge in a structured, machine-readable format, and can require the manufacturer to pass it to a third party. One rule has no counterpart in the ten principles. Article 4(13) forbids a data holder from using the data to derive insights about a user's economic situation, assets or production methods. That clause was written for a machine like this one. A manufacturer that can see a farm's yields, fuel bills and machine hours knows what that farm can afford to buy. The next obligation is ten days away. From 12 September connected products placed on the EU market must be built so the data reaches the user by default, which is what a startup like PerPlant in Copenhagen needs. Deere has not said whether JD is coming to Europe. The early access programme is American, and the assistant runs on data its platform already holds. Which is where the two systems part company. Vertical AI in agriculture is where the value is heading, and in Europe the farmer holds the key by law rather than by promise.
