OpenAI confirms ChatGPT is down ahead of 'Astra' model launch

ChatGPT and Codex are experiencing a major outage, with users reporting errors across nearly every major ChatGPT feature. The outage started at approximately 10:58 AM ET on Thursday, September 3, and is affecting ChatGPT conversations, login, search, file uploads, Voice mode, GPTs, image generation, Deep Research, Agent, ChatGPT Work, and other services. OpenAI's Codex services are also affected by the outage. If you are affected, ChatGPT may fail to load conversations, return errors when sending messages, or prevent you from using features such as Search, file uploads, image generation, Deep Research, and Voice mode. Thankfully, OpenAI is aware of the problems and has acknowledged the outage on its status page. "We are investigating the issue for the listed services," OpenAI said. According to the company's status page, at least 15 ChatGPT components are affected, including Conversations, Login, ChatGPT Work, Codex in ChatGPT Desktop, Compliance API, Search, File uploads, Voice mode, GPTs, Image Generation, Deep Research, Agent, ChatGPT Atlas, Sites, and Connectors/Apps. The outage comes ahead of the expected launch of OpenAI's next major AI model, Astra, which the company recently confirmed will be released soon. OpenAI has not said whether today's outage is related to preparations for Astra, and there is currently no evidence linking the two events. As of the time of writing, OpenAI is still investigating the elevated errors across ChatGPT and Codex and has not disclosed what is causing the outage.

It's not just you; ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok are all down in confirmed outages

A widespread outage has taken out popular AI platforms including ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok. With a spike in reports on DownDetector as well as confirmed outages on their respective dashboards, OpenAI's ChatGPT, Anthropic's Claude, and X's Grok are all down. While AI outages aren't particularly uncommon, it's interesting to see all three down at the same time. Google's Gemini is unaffected at this time. The underlying problem might have something to do with Microsoft Azure, which is also seeing a spike in outage reports. All three platforms rely on Azure for cloud services, though there are other providers, including Google, in the mix. We'll update this article as more information is available.

ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini are all down as thousands of users experience outages

OpenAI, Anthropic and Google were grappling with service problems Thursday, disrupting several of the tech giants' massive popular artificial intelligence products. OpenAI said it was investigating "elevated errors across ChatGPT and Codex," with the problem ongoing for 20 minutes at the time of a status-page screenshot reviewed by The Post. Anthropic, meanwhile, reported elevated errors across multiple Claude models and said it had identified the cause and was working on a fix. The affected models included Mythos/Fable 5.1, Mythos/Fable 5, Opus 5, Opus 4.8 and Opus 4.6, according to Anthropic's status page. Anthropic first reported the problem just before 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time. By 10:49 a.m., the company said it was "continuing to work on a fix for this issue." Google's Gemini was also partially degraded for some developer and API users, according to the supplied reporting. Google AI Studio's status page said the Gemini API was having problems serving recently created API keys, including keys used through OpenAI-compatible libraries, and that the company was investigating. The problems hit three major artificial-intelligence platforms at roughly the same time Thursday. The Post has sought comment from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google.
