Adobe finally releases Photoshop for Android, and it's free (for now)
Adobe has spent years releasing mobile apps that aren't Photoshop, and now it's finally giving people what they want. Yes, real Photoshop. After releasing a mobile version of Photoshop on iPhone earlier this year, the promised Android release has finally arrived. You can download it right now in beta, and it's free to use for the duration of the beta period. The mobile app includes a reasonably broad selection of tools from the desktop version of Adobe's iconic image editor, including masks, clone stamp, layers, transformations, cropping, and an array of generative AI tools. The app looks rather barebones when you first start using it, but the toolbar surfaces features as you select areas and manipulate layers. Depending on how you count, this is Adobe's third attempt to do Photoshop on phones. So far, it appears to be the most comprehensive, though. It's much more capable than Photoshop Express or the ancient Photoshop Touch app, which Adobe unpublished almost a decade ago. If you're not familiar with the ins and outs of Photoshop, the new app comes with a robust collection of tutorials -- just tap the light bulb icon to peruse them. Photoshop on Android makes a big deal about Adobe's generative AI features, which let you easily select subjects or backgrounds, remove objects, and insert new content based on a text prompt. This works about as well as the desktop version of Photoshop because it's relying on the same cloud service to do the heavy lifting. This would have been impressive to see in a mobile app a year ago, but OEM features like Google's Magic Editor have since become more widespread.

I've Been Using the Photoshop iPhone App for Months, and Now Android Users Can Too
Katelyn is a writer with CNET covering social media, AI and online services. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in media and journalism. You can often find her with a novel and an iced coffee during her time off. Adobe wants to help all of its professional photographers and creators edit while on the go. The company announced this week that Android users will be able to download a beta version of the Photoshop mobile app through the Google Play store. You can download the app now for free. Photoshop has been around for 35 years, but it's only been this year that Adobe released a true Photoshop mobile app built for on-the-go editing. When I got an early preview of the iPhone Photoshop app in February, I was surprised by how different the app felt from my experience editing photos on my laptop. But after spending some time with the app since -- and learning my way around the menus -- it feels like a more natural extension of the original Photoshop we all know and occasionally get super frustrated with. Photoshop loyalists will be glad to learn that many of the original Photoshop features are packed into the mobile app. The Android app will have many of the same features now at launch, like layers, masking and its AI tool generative fill. Tap select, the new mobile-friendly select option, joins more familiar tools like the magic wand, spot healing and object select. You'll also get access to Adobe's stock library, which makes licensing and importing outside images easy. Adobe said in a statement that it plans to release more features in the future. Because so much visual content is filmed and edited on phones, Tuesday's release will make it easier for professionals who are already Photoshop power users. It also helps the company stay competitive with other services like Canva and even AI companies introducing image and video generation abilities. Adobe's no stranger to AI; the company has been all-in on AI for the past few years. Its Firefly family of AI models is powering a number of generative AI editing tools across Photoshop, Lightroom and Premiere Pro.

Photoshop Is Now on Android, All Features Are Free For a Limited Time
After launching on iPhone earlier this year, Adobe is bringing its most popular editing tool to Android devices. Photoshop for Android is now available in beta for both smartphones and tablets. This isn't the full version of Photoshop you're used to on desktop, but it's more feature-rich than most mobile photo editing tools bringing some of Adobe's best features to Android devices for the first time. Adobe wants this to be a suitable alternative for those who use Photoshop on desktop, but it's also designed for users who are mobile native and used to using their phone for editing. Features in Photoshop for Android include the Spot Healing Brush to touch up images, the use of layers help you combine images together, and the company's Tap Select tool to help automatically grab individual parts of an image for moving or editing. Newer Photoshop features like Generative Fill using the company's Firefly AI to automatically transform elements of an image are also available here. You're limited in the amount of credits you can have each month, though. Everything in the app is free at launch in what Adobe calls a "thank you for being a part of our beta community." The app says the features are available for a "limited time only." There's no clear date of when Photoshop for Android will lock away these features, but we'd expect it to come in the next few months when the company moves the app away from its beta stage. When the service landed on iPhone, Adobe didn't run this promotion and instead you had to subscribe immediately to get the full feature set. It introduced a new mobile and web subscription that costs $7.99 a month or $69.99 a year. We'd expect Adobe to use this for Android subscriptions, too. Adobe Photoshop for Android is available on the Google Play Store now, and it's compatible with all smartphones and tablets running Android 11 software or higher. You'll also need to have over 6GB of RAM onboard to handle it. We've experimented with the app on a Google Pixel 9 and found it worked well editing images quickly. Adobe has tried with Android editing before. It started off with an app called Photoshop Touch that was eventually discontinued in 2015. The service was much more limited than what Adobe is offering here on its new Photoshop app.

Adobe Photoshop Is Now Available on Android
Just a few months after Adobe brought Photoshop to mobile on iPhone, the company is launching its flagship image editing app to Android users as well via a public beta available now on the Google Play store. Photoshop mobile is built from the ground up for smartphones, including careful tweaks to the user interface and overall user experience. The all-new Android app, like the iPhone version that arrived earlier this year, includes many of Photoshop's photo editing and design capabilities, including a layer-based workflow, masking, and Firefly-powered generative AI features, such as Generative Fill. "Photoshop mobile makes it easy to create wherever inspiration strikes, from designing cover art, to a video thumbnail, a vision board, or capturing an idea on the go," Adobe explains. The company promises that Photoshop's new mobile app will make it easier for the next generation of creators to get started, although Adobe notes that veteran desktop users will also find many of the tools they expect on the app. Since Photoshop mobile on Android is in beta, all its features are available for free to all users, at least for now. The beta is launching with a wide range of capabilities, including selections, layers, masks, Tap Select, Spot Healing, generative AI, Adobe Stock compatibility, Object Select, Magic Wand, and more. Adobe states that additional features are currently in development and will be added to the app "soon." Given that Photoshop mobile is designed with beginner and expert users alike, the app also features mobile-specific tutorials and educational content, including tips for using layers, selections, and generative AI to create better work. "We're excited to bring the limitless creative possibilities of Photoshop to mobile, making the app's iconic image editing and design capabilities accessible for everyone from professional artists and designers to a whole new generation of creators trying Photoshop for the first time," Ashley Still, senior vice president, digital media at Adobe said in February when Adobe announced Photoshop for iPhone. "Photoshop's new mobile and web apps unlock next generation creativity, empowering creators to bring to life gorgeous photos, rich graphics and incredible art anytime, anywhere." Adobe Photoshop (beta) app is available now on Google Play for devices running Android 11 or later. Smartphones must have at least 6GB of RAM to run the app, although 8GB or more is recommended for optimal performance. When the beta period ends, users should expect to pay for full access to Photoshop mobile on Android. Premium Photoshop mobile and web plans start at $7.99 per month or $69.99 annually. The premium versions of Photoshop mobile and web are included in standard Photoshop and Adobe Photography plans.

Photoshop Is Now Officially Available (and Free) on Both iPhone and Android
"Photoshop" is synonymous with image editing -- the app is an industry standard, and has been for over 30 years. But while Photoshop has been available on computers forever and on tablets for some time now, those looking to edit images on their smartphones have had to make due with competing programs. That changed earlier this year. In February, Adobe officially made Photoshop available on iPhone. Just over three months later, it has now released the app in beta on Android, and you can officially download it for either platform. Head to the App Store or Play Store, search "Photoshop," and you'll see not just the usual alternatives -- like Lightroom, Canva, and Facetune -- but the real deal. Plus, the app itself is free, in addition to a number of its "core imaging and design tools." According to the company, you'll be able to use the following tools, free of charge: In its initial announcement back in February, the company showed off a number of edits one might use the app for: using a masking tool to copy a subject from one image and paste it to another; using a "quick select brush" to isolate parts of an image from the final product; layering multiple images over one another to create a dramatic but realistic assortment of items around the subject; changing the color of one element of an image, while preserving the rest; and selecting objects to quickly remove them from the scene. Of course, Adobe is also pushing its AI features -- namely, Generative Fill. In one demo, a rep needs to insert an island onto an image of an ocean. They use the lasso tool to highlight where in the image they want that island to be, then use Generative Fill to create a grassy piece of land with AI. In another, Generative Fill is used to remove a background, replacing it with the sky seen in a different part of the image. If you have previous Photoshop experience, you should be quite familiar with the tools and features of this incarnation of the program. However, it may take you a moment to get your bearings. This version definitely feels and functions like a mobile app, meaning its UI looks like many other image editing apps you might have used before. As such, it could take some trial and error before you understand where all of your usual options and features are located. Aside from that, this is the typical Photoshop experience, distilled into mobile form. While Photoshop and its "core" features are free to download and use on iPhone, there are more features and perks if you choose to pay. Adobe has a "Photoshop Mobile and Web plan" for customers who want more on the iOS, iPadOS, Android, and web versions of the app. That includes: This plan costs $7.99 per month, or $69.99 per year. If you already pay for Photoshop, you now have all of these perks included in your plan. The good news, for Android users, is that Adobe is making all these features free while the app is in beta. If you have even a passing interest in Photoshop, I'd recommend checking out the beta ASAP to try out these premium features while you can.

Android Gets Photoshop Beta
We may earn a commission when you click links to retailers and purchase goods. More info. Adobe released Photoshop (Beta) to Android this morning, allowing anyone and everyone to use the service free of charge during this testing period. All of the tools and AI editing is available inside free of charge, so even if you don't plan to give Adobe any of your money down the road, you would be foolish not to download the beta and use it for however long it's free for. Having downloaded it myself, it's actually quite usable. I'm by no means a Photoshop expert (I actually suck), but even I found it be to intuitive and dare I say, easy to use. You can see from my header above that the AI generating could maybe use a little tweaking, or I have to do better with my area selection, but all of those features are in there and free to use. To get started, follow the link below and download the app. Sign up for an account and you're good to go.

Who knows how long it'll last? Photoshop Finally Comes to Android There are almost countless Adobe apps, including many versions of Photoshop available on desktop, through the web, tablets, and -- since February 2025 -- iPhone mobiles. On June 3rd 2025, Adobe finally released Photoshop on Android (Beta), with immediate download availability. It's been long-awaited to finally have the Photoshop app on Android, especially since Photoshop has been available for iPad tablets for years and already has a four-month head start with Photoshop for iPhone. Photoshop on Android encompasses everything you want and need for an on-the-go creative tool. Whether you're a pro creative or a hobby content creator, or somewhere in the middle, access to Photoshop from the palm of your hand -- no matter your phone type -- truly keeps your creative brain energized, always. Photoshop on Android (Beta) Is Free, Including Premium Features Close The Photoshop on Android app -- similarly to Photoshop on iPhone -- is free to download or install. Anyone, anywhere, can get Photoshop on their phones now. The benefit of Photoshop on Android (Beta) is that, while still in Beta mode, all premium features are free for all users to use. This includes intuitive selection features like Tap Select, which identifies objects within your photo or layered project, letting you tap to select an element even in a rasterized image. While it's not known how long the app will stay in Beta mode, having free access to Adobe's premium features like generative AI tools doesn't come around very often, so it's best to get the most use out of them while you can. Other Adobe products are changing in price, including the Creative Cloud subscription plan. Photoshop on Mobile (including both Android and iPhone) has its own subscription plan encompassed with the Photoshop on the Web browser-based tool. Once the Android app is out of Beta, users will choose between only accessing free tools -- of which Photoshop on Mobile is still plentiful -- or subscribing to the Photoshop Mobile and Web plan from $7.99 per month or $69.99 per year to access premium features. The Photoshop Mobile and Web plan does not include the Photoshop Desktop app. Photoshop Mobile users also have access to near-endless Adobe Stock files, which can elevate your creative projects with textures, stock imagery, and elements you can't produce yourself. Currently, Photoshop on Android (Beta) doesn't connect to Adobe Font; However, it's in the works for the full version, to allow your typographic designs to flourish. You can do it all from your phone. The benefit of Photoshop on Android is that it syncs your Adobe Cloud files so you can work on desktop projects like PSDs from your phone. This is great if you're out in meetings or traveling and can't have your full computer setup, but you may still need to make creative changes to your projects. You can also use the Photoshop on Mobile app for idea generation, then sync it to the cloud to finalize your creativity on a larger screen later on. Photoshop on Android features masking tools, layers, selection tools, blend modes, and type tools. The limit on what or how you can create from your Android device is only bound by your imagination. The app is fast-working and easy to navigate with your finger using tap-based tools or easy sliders for drag-and-drop elements. You can upload original imagery, create from scratch, or utilize Adobe Stock elements in your projects. While the interface is notably different from desktop expectations -- as it should be -- it feels familiar as an Adobe tool, so you won't feel lost after installing for the first time. Android Finally Catches Up Photoshop on Android (Beta) has all the features you'd want to see and the ones you know and love from the desktop version and the iPhone equivalent. Even from your smaller mobile screen, your creativity isn't limited. Despite the smaller interface of Photoshop on Android, the UX/UI of the mobile app is well-built. With stacked layers, a horizontal toolbar, and easy-to-open tool stacks, you won't feel like anything's missing.

Adobe Introduces Photoshop App for Android in Beta With These AI Features
The app is still in beta and offers access to premium features for free Adobe Photoshop app was launched for Android users on Wednesday, nearly four months after its iOS counterpart was released. The app takes the array of editing features provided by the US-based company in its desktop application and packages it for the Android platform. The Photoshop app for Android (beta) lets users take advantage of artificial intelligence (AI) features like Generative Fill which is powered by Adobe's Firefly AI model. It has core editing and imaging tools tools such as access to Adobe assets, layering, and masking for a mobile editing experience. The Adobe Photoshop app is available for Android on the Google Play Store as a free download. It is still in beta (early access) and the company says all users can access premium tools, which are usually locked behind the Adobe Creative Cloud subscription, free of cost for a limited time. Adobe says Android devices are required to have a minimum of 6GB of RAM to run the app, while handsets with 8GB of RAM or more are recommended for an optimal experience. It is compatible with phones running Android 11 or later firmware. As per the company, the new Adobe Photoshop app for Android has an easy-to-use interface for those who prefer to work on their phones. It brings the same core editing tools which have been offered on its desktop counterpart for years, such as layering, masking, Object Select, and Magic Wand. Further, there are AI capabilities as well, taking advantage of the company's Firefly AI model. For example, the Generative Fill feature is claimed to analyse the pixels of the image to add or remove contents from images while matching the existing lighting, perspective, colouring, and shadow. Meanwhile, tools such as selections, layers, and masks enable users to blend, combine, or composite images for unique creations. Adjustment layers can be used to fix bad lighting or tweak the colour. These can be enhanced by the Spot Healing brush which can remove distracting elements like spots and smudges, or Tap Select that removes, replaces, or re-colours parts of the image. The Adobe Photoshop app for Android offers a free library of Stock assets that can be used to enhance images by adding elements or effects. Users can also export images to other Adobe platforms like Adobe Express, Adobe Fresco, and Adobe Lightroom. Creators can access a free library of Adobe Stock assets to enhance their images. It also gets direct integration with other Adobe creative apps including Adobe Express, Adobe Fresco and Adobe Lightroom, enabling them to export images to the aforementioned platforms. The Photoshop app will be updated with additional capabilities soon, as per the company.
