FIS Deploys Anthropic's Mythos 5 to Strengthen Global Financial Infrastructure | PYMNTS.com
Project Glasswing is Anthropic's initiative that allows select organizations that build or maintain foundational software to use the company's most advanced AI models for defensive security work, FIS said in a Friday (July 17) press release. FIS, a global FinTech company, is using Mythos 5 as an additional layer in its security program, according to the release. "FIS operates systems that clear payments, move money and run core banking for thousands of institutions worldwide," the company said in the release. "Protecting that code is critical to the stability of global financial infrastructure. At that scale, FIS applies the same standard to its own infrastructure security that it expects from the technology it delivers to clients." Anthropic introduced Project Glasswing in April when it announced the limited release of its first Mythos-class AI model, Claude Mythos Preview. The company said the initiative would offer select partners early access to the model so they could use its cybersecurity capabilities to strengthen their systems before this class of models was more widely released. It was reported May 12 that the few large banks that had access to Mythos were uncovering vulnerabilities in their IT systems and were learning that the AI model can create a high-risk vulnerability by bringing together several lower risk weaknesses. By May 22, Anthropic reported that Claude Mythos Preview had identified more than 10,000 cybersecurity vulnerabilities in "the most systemically important software in the world" so they could be patched. When Anthropic announced Claude Mythos 5 on June 9, the company said the model would initially be released only through Project Glasswing in collaboration with the U.S. government. Three days later, on June 12, Anthropic disabled some access to Mythos 5 in response to a U.S. government export control directive which cited unspecified "national security authorities" and called on Anthropic to suspend access to the model by "any foreign national," whether within or outside the United States. On June 28, it was reported that Anthropic received government approval to restore some access to Mythos 5 and that the company was redeploying the model to a small group of cyber defenders and infrastructure providers.
