At the heart of the EVO-X2 is the Strix Halo APU, boasting 16 cores and 32 threads with a boost clock of up to 5.1GHz. The system supports up to 128GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 2TB of SSD storage, positioning it as a serious contender in the best workstation category. Graphics performance comes from the integrated Radeon 8060S GPU, which includes 40 compute units, more than double the 16 CUs found in the Radeon 890M that ships with AMD's Strix Point lineup. In recent tests by ETA Prime, the EVO-X2 demonstrated smooth 1440p gaming performance, assisted by the advanced "Arctic" cooling system featuring a vapor chamber and dual-turbine fans, that keeps thermal output under 140W. Built with AI and data-intensive workloads in mind, the EVO-X2 also boasts impressive machine learning capabilities. It supports a local 70-billion parameter model without needing cloud resources, and its XDNA 2 NPU delivers 50 TOPS of dedicated AI performance, contributing to a total of 126 TOPS, surpassing the estimated AI capability of Nvidia's RTX 5090D. For connectivity, EVO-X2 comes with four USB-A ports, two 40Gbps USB-C ports, an SD card reader, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.0, a 2.5GbE Ethernet port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. It also supports WiFi 7 for wireless connectivity. Pre-orders in China begin on April 7 via JD.com. At the time of writing, there's been no word on global availability for the new device.

GMKtec has apparently become the first manufacturer to integrate AMD's Ryzen AI 9 Max+ 395 APU into their EVO-X2 mini-PC, and now, according to a report by ITHome, it is revealed that the device is set to hit the retail markets for pre-orders on April 7, but the initial price tag is a massive one, coming in at around $2,000, which makes it AMD's most expensive mini-PC to date if you consider the onboard RAM/SSD configuration as well. Diving into what AMD's Ryzen AI 9 Max+ 395 APU brings onboard, it features the full 16 cores and 32 threads. This chip has a 5.1 GHz boost clock with 80 MB of cache, a 50 TOPS NPU, and a cTDP of 45-120W. The iGPU features 40 compute units, the highest in AMD's Ryzen AI Max lineup. Along with this, the APU features the Radeon 8060S iGPU, coming in with 40 Compute Units, which is a massive generational jump, and the graphical performance with this iGPU would likely be one of the best out there. In terms of what the mini-PC offers, GMKtec's EVO-X2 features LPDDR5X memory, ranging from 32 GB to 128 GB. For storage, this particular unit will offer 2 TB capacity, which is ample enough for modern-day use cases. The system supports a peak power consumption of up to 140W, which means that the Strix Halo platform has ample power, even to support high-end workloads. Moreover, the unit will also support Wi-FI 7 and Bluetooth 5.3, which means that you are getting top-tier connectivity. AMD's Strix Halo platform has seen less adoption from mini-PC manufacturers for now, and GMKtec is one of the firms which will launch their device around it next month. The pricing is pretty nasty, coming in at around $2,000, which makes it one of the most expensive compact PCs out there, but yet again, this tag is for the maxed-out configuration.
