Google opens its smartest Gmail writing feature to basically everyone
Eligible Workspace Business, Enterprise, Education, Frontline, and Google One AI Premium users are included in the rollout. Google is making one of Gmail's biggest AI upgrades available to more people. The personalized "Help me write" feature is now rolling out to a wider group of Workspace users after being limited at first. Starting today, two main improvements are available, per Google's blog post. The first is topic contextualization, which lets the AI use information from your Google Drive and Gmail based on what you ask. For example, if you write "include the budget numbers from last month's deck," the AI will find and add that information for you, so you don't have to switch between tabs. The second improvement is tone and style personalization. The tool can look at your past sent emails and match your writing style. If you usually write short messages to your team or use a more formal style for leadership, the AI will adjust to fit. When you give a short prompt, the draft will sound more like you instead of using a generic tone. If you have Google Workspace Business (Starter, Standard, or Plus), Enterprise, or Google One AI Premium, you'll see the feature in your inbox soon. Education and Frontline users with the Gemini add-on are included as well. That said, not everyone will get the update immediately. Google began rolling it out on May 5, 2026, and it could take up to 15 days for the new features to appear in your account.

Gmail's 'Help me write' tool is getting a couple of key upgrades

His love for Android dates back to the Samsung/Google Nexus S, and his first Android phone was the HTC Desire HD in 2010. Gmail's 'Help me write' was one of the earliest generative AI features to land on the email client. It has seen innumerable improvements since then, including support for more languages, while also being upgraded to run on the Gemini 3 model earlier this year. In February, Gmail teased upgrades to this email-drafting tool, and they are slowly beginning to roll out this week. First things first, Help me write can now pore through information stored in your Google Drive and automatically add it to the email draft, according to the Workspace blog. As you would expect, this is designed to avoid constantly switching between Drive and Gmail to include relevant data with the email. Related I don't like AI, but Gemini in Gmail has been a game-changer Gemini reduces friction in email workflows and saves me time on administrative tasks Posts 4 By Dhruv Bhutani The second improvement coming to Help me write will adopt the user's typing style by looking through emails they've written before. Google says the feature will "match the tone and style of your previously written emails," which could help make emails sound less robotic to recipients. Gmail was kind enough to offer a visual representation of what these upgrades to Help me write would look like. These improvements are available across a wide range of Google Workspace tiers, including Business, Enterprise, and the Education add-on. Naturally, subscribers of the Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra plans are also eligible for these Help me write upgrades in Gmail. The rollout has already begun, though it could take up to 15 days for it to appear widely to all eligible users, as is the case with most Workspace feature additions. Gmail's AI Inbox begins appearing on mobile Separately, Gmail is also prepping the rollout of its recently introduced AI Inbox feature to mobile devices. This feature scans your emails and provides a quick, actionable summary to help you stay on top of pending emails. It's been available in beta for users on the web for a while now, but we're now seeing the first hints of its eventual rollout to mobile devices (via 9to5Google). Close The AI Inbox shortcut will live in the sidebar, just below the Inbox button, and will also appear as the second option in the Gmail app's bottom bar, as the screenshots above illustrate. For the uninitiated, AI Inbox is still in beta and is only available to US-based subscribers of the $250/month Google AI Ultra plan. While this makes AI Inbox inaccessible to most users right now, Gmail could be setting the stage for a wider rollout of the feature sometime in the future, though we can't say when.

Gmail's 'Help me write' will now sound more like you
Soon, no one will know that you aren't actually writing any of your emails *evil cackle*. Credit: Thomas Trutschel / Getty Images Gmail's "Help me write," an AI-based assistant for drafting your emails, is a useful tool, but it can on occasion sound somewhat stiff compared to your own voice. This should now change. In a blog post published Thursday, Google said it added two personalization enhancements to its Gemini-powered Gmail tool. One is topic contextualization, a feature that can connect Gmail to your Google Drive and Gmail based on your prompt, and then insert relevant info into your email draft based on the data it gathered from these apps. The other new feature is tone and style personalization, enabling AI to write drafts that match the tone and style of your previous emails. In an example Google has provided, the user is drafting an email on recent influencer campaign launches, and the AI is able to get the actual names of the campaigns from Google Drive files, as well as info on how these campaigns are doing from recent emails. On top of that, the tone of the email is a bit more casual. Google originally announced these changes in February, but they're now rolling out to following users: Business Starter, Standard, and Plus, as well as Enterprise Starter, Standard, and Plus. The feature is also rolling out to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra consumer-grade users, as well as on the Google AI Pro for Education suite.

Google is expanding its Gmail writing feature to more users with two major AI upgrades. The tool now pulls information from Google Drive and Gmail to contextualize emails, while also learning to match your personal tone and style by analyzing your past messages. The rollout targets Workspace Business, Enterprise, Education, and Google One AI Premium subscribers.

Google is bringing its most advanced Gmail writing feature to a significantly wider audience. Starting May 5, 2025, the enhanced Help me write tool began rolling out to Google Workspace Business, Enterprise, Education, Frontline, and Google One AI Premium users

. The generative AI tool, which has been limited to select users since its initial launch, now includes two substantial improvements that promise to make AI-drafted emails feel more authentic and contextually relevant. The rollout could take up to 15 days to reach all eligible accounts, according to Google's announcement

. This phased approach is typical for Google Workspace feature additions, ensuring stability across its vast user base. The first major enhancement introduces topic contextualization, allowing the AI to pull information directly from your Google Drive and Gmail based on what you request

. When you write a prompt like "include the budget numbers from last month's deck," the AI will locate and insert that specific information without requiring you to switch between tabs2
.This integration addresses a common friction point in email workflows. Instead of manually searching through Drive files or previous email threads, users can now reference documents and data conversationally, and the AI handles the retrieval process. In Google's example, a user drafting an email about recent influencer campaign launches can have the AI automatically fetch campaign names from Drive files and performance data from recent emails
3
.The second improvement tackles one of the most persistent criticisms of AI-generated content: its generic, robotic tone. Through tone and style personalization, Help me write now analyzes your previously sent emails to match user's writing style

. Whether you typically write short, direct messages to your team or adopt a more formal approach for leadership communications, the AI will adjust accordingly. This personalization feature means that when you provide a brief prompt, the resulting draft will sound more like you rather than using generic phrasing
2
. The goal is to help emails "sound less robotic to recipients," according to Google's description of the feature2
