Google Gemini to bring custom AI agents to Android, expanding beyond enterprise users

Gemini could soon let anyone build an AI agent on their phone, no enterprise plan needed

Users might have the option to choose from five templates initially, centered around learning, managing finances, marketing, and more. Google is testing a host of new upgrades for Gemini, including the option to customize your Daily Brief and manage skills for its always-online agent, Spark, right from your Android device. Alongside these features, Google is also experimenting with giving users greater control over custom AI agents, right from their mobile devices. The option to create and manage AI agents is currently limited to Google Workspace and Enterprise users, and is only available through the web interface. However, with version 17.45.14 of the Google app on Android, which acts as a gateway to Gemini, we're seeing the option to create and manage AI agents from your phone or tablet. Given the personal nature of these agents, we suspect Google might not limit them to Workspace or Enterprise users and might extend them to everyone, including non-paying Gemini users. Of course, nothing is confirmed until Google reveals details officially, but with the level of finesse, we hope for that to happen soon.

The button appears below the list of recent conversations and is designed to let users create AI agents from their phones or tablets. However, the Android version presently has five preset templates. These templates cover common everyday needs and make setup much easier. The presets include: * Family coordinator for household chores, keep track of family events, and manage household tasks. * Tutor that can help with homework, quizzes, learning, and planning study time. * Group organiser to coordinate trips, get-togethers, and activities with multiple people. * Marketing agent for creating social media posts, newsletters, and campaign ideas. * Finance agent to help track your spending and remind you when bills are due. At the time of writing, custom AI agents are limited to Google Workspace and Enterprise accounts through the web interface. However, because these new mobile agents appear to focus on personal tasks such as family planning and finances, there is growing speculation that Google could eventually make the feature available to all Gemini users, including those on the free plan. Google has not officially confirmed any rollout plans. Since the feature is still under development, its final design, availability, and supported options could change before a public release.
