Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 8 will offer a shortcut to this app-scripting automation: a long-press of that foldable phone's power button will open Gemini Intelligence in the device's Flex Window. Google's Gemini Notebook, the research and note-taking assistant that went by NotebookLM until a renaming last week, will come preinstalled on Samsung's new foldable phones. While Google didn't list the apps that will work with task automation, it said that the expanded support will allow Gemini to shop for you, make dinner reservations, book travel experiences and buy tickets. Gemini can now also use complex images as prompts and understand what's displayed on your screen. Samsung's foldables will come pre-installed with Gemini Notebook, formerly known as NotebookLM. It's Google's deep research tool that you can use to organize sources from the web, videos, chats and others into one information repository for your use. For instance, you can use it to create a plan for your European trip by feeding it links to video sources, websites and written text. It can then turn information from those sources into slide decks, videos, flash cards and even podcasts. You can also use its chat function to ask it any question about the topics in the sources you've provided it. Some of its features require access to paid Gemini, so the company is giving out a six-month trial of Google AI Pro with every Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Fold 8 and Flip 8 device. The latest Galaxy watches will come with AI features, as well. For the Galaxy Watch 9, in particular, you'll be able to activate Gemini and ask it questions simply by raising your wrist. The companies also revealed two more frames for their upcoming Android XR smart glasses line, which will launch this fall. Finally, Google has introduced an easier way to switch to Android with Samsung's latest foldables. It's a native migration experience built into Android 17 that will let you transfer data from iPhones without having to download a separate app. The new method can transfer your photos, videos, contacts, messages, calendar, Google Accounts, passwords, WiFi credentials and even your eSIM into Android devices. According to a blog post on the Android Developers Blog, Samsung's new foldables come with Google's latest on-device AI model, Gemini Nano 4. The post also states that Nano 4 supports over 140 languages, better multimodal understanding, and more. Gemini Nano 4 also powers Gemini Intelligence features on the new Galaxy foldables. Users can call on Gemini Intelligence, with its underlying Nano 4-powered chops, to automate tasks on these devices. This includes support for real-world actions like ordering food and booking tickets. The new Gemini Notebook feature (previously known as NotebookLM) is also powered by Gemini Intelligence and can turn images, notes, PDFs, and other files into polished and structured information. Meanwhile, more Gemini Intelligence features are yet to roll out. There's the upcoming "Create My Widget" feature that will let users design their own widgets using Gemini Intelligence. We're also waiting on Gboard's "Rambler" dictation mode to hit devices and finally turn our rambling thoughts into coherent notes. So if you're chatting with friends about dinner plans, for example, Gemini can use that context to help you find a restaurant or complete a booking without making you jump between multiple apps. For 2026, the emphasis is on Gemini. First, the Gemini Intelligence feature that completes tasks for you, launched in beta in May, is being expanded to support more than 40 apps and is available out of the box on the new Galaxy foldables. Plus, you can launch your agentic assistant with a screengrab now as well as a prompt (so maybe a picture of an item of clothing you want the AI to look for online). Google hasn't specified which 40 apps are now included, but the idea is the same as before: Gemini can carry out more admin for you, like booking cabs or reserving tables, in your apps. You'll still get an overview of what the AI is up to on your screen, as well as final approval on any important actions, and you can stop the process at any time. Next up is the newly rebranded Gemini Notebook (the AI research tool previously known as NotebookLM). There are no new features here, but the app is going to be preinstalled on the foldables that Samsung just unveiled, and on the Z Fold 8 devices, you can take advantage of the wider screen to drag and drop elements (such as images and web links) into your notebooks from other apps. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 launch: first phones with Gemini Nano 4

Preorders open now, with AI features limited to top-tier hardware Samsung released the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8 on July 22, 2026. According to the company, they're the first phones to ship with Google's on-device AI model, Gemini Nano 4. The new foldables were announced at Samsung Unpacked in London that same day. Samsung says Gemini Nano 4 handles on-device photo and video editing, live translation, stronger text summaries, and cross-app actions. In practice, that means you could spot a landmark in a photo already saved on your phone, then book a hotel through Expedia without bouncing back and forth between apps. Samsung and Google also say local processing should make responses faster, cut down on cloud dependence, and keep more of your data private. There's a catch, though: Gemini Nano 4 still needs high-end hardware, including the latest chips and at least 12GB of RAM, so for now this kind of setup is still limited to top-tier devices. If you've been waiting for on-device AI on a foldable, this release has a real hook. Samsung still needs to show these features hold up outside stage demos. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 also comes with a wider, shorter redesign, part of Samsung's effort to keep foldables moving further ahead of Apple. Reported US pricing starts at $1,199 for the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and $2,099 for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, with reports linking the roughly $100 bump to the memory chip shortage. Pre-orders are already open, Samsung says, in the US, UK, Europe, India, and Singapore. General availability starts August 7, 2026.
