Spark isn't yet available to free users or to those on an AI Plus subscription for $7.99 a month, and it's unclear whether Spark will ever be available on either service. Spark allows Gemini AI to complete tasks in the background with minimal input from you, meaning you can set it up to work on your behalf. You can instruct it to complete recurring tasks and triggers, such as running the same project on a regular schedule, or teach it new skills to repeat regular tasks without your involvement. Spark connects to apps such as Workspace or other Google services to help complete jobs. For example, can set up the agent to review and summarize emails, manage your schedule in Calendar, or work on projects in Docs, Sheets, Slides, or Drive. You can also ask it to search the web on your behalf, with Google often providing an example of how it can plan and suggest travel ideas for a business trip. Those with AI Pro will find the option in a new tab in the top left on the web or desktop versions of Gemini, while mobile versions open a new page for Spark entries. Agentic AI isn't entirely new, with Google's rivals offering similar features such as ChatGPT Work from OpenAI or Anthropic's Claude Cowork. However, Spark has been well received, aside from its high monthly cost. PCMag's Ruben Circelli tested the tool in June and found it to be impressive, calling it the "best AI agent" he has trialed. Circelli notes that most people wouldn't benefit by signing up for AI Ultra, as a lot of what Spark can do is achievable through standard Gemini access.

More people can now try Gemini Spark as Google broadens access

OpenAI's ChatGPT Work is only available on paid tiers, as is Anthropic's Claude Cowork. Pricing for both starts at about $20 per month, though the difference is that they're available in Europe and the UK.
