Siri AI hints at new iPhone 18 Pro design change
Siri AI is available now in the iOS 27 beta after you get off the waitlist, and it includes a not-so-subtle hint about a design change that's rumored for this fall's iPhone 18 Pro. Siri AI's shape in iOS 27 supports rumors of reduced Dynamic Island coming with iPhone 18 Pro This fall's iPhone 18 Pro is expected to have a very similar design to last year's iPhone 17 Pro, including the full-width camera plateau, aluminum unibody, and more. But a trio of new design updates are rumored nonetheless. One of those changes is a smaller Dynamic Island. It could be about 35% smaller than last year's cutout. And the new Siri AI design in iOS 27 beta 1 seems to provide confirmation that a smaller Dynamic Island is indeed coming this fall. Siri AI on current iPhones has an unusual ovular shape, as seen above. But on iPad and Mac, as shown below, Siri's design uses the more classic orb shape. This discrepancy strongly hints that Siri AI will similarly look like a sphere on iPhone 18 Pro and other new models that have a smaller Dynamic Island. Essentially, Apple wants to make sure the new Siri design integrates the full width of the Dynamic Island. It would likely look strange if it didn't. But on current iPhones, that means stretching Siri into a wide oval -- more of a pill shape. If you buy a new iPhone this fall though, you'll get to see Siri AI as it was intended, just like it appears now on iPad and Mac. What do you think of Siri AI's new design in iOS 27? Let us know in the comments.

Siri AI beta for Mac and iPad includes a major iPhone 18 Pro design hint
The iPhone 18 Pro has been tipped to have a smaller Dynamic Island. The Siri AI beta has dropped a major hint Apple's Siri AI available to test drive for some users of the iOS 27 developer beta and eagle-eyed users have noticed it carries hints of a design change for the iPhone 18 Pro range. The new Siri AI app seems to tie into rumours that Apple plans to significantly decrease the size of the Dynamic Island, which contains the selfie camera and the Face ID sensors. Speculation has suggested the Dynamic Island cut out might be 35% smaller. In the iOS 27 beta the Dynamic Island on current iPhone models continues to be an oval. However, on the Mac and iPad it reverts to a spherical shape. That may be an indication a uniform design change is coming once the iPhone 18 Pro device is launched. The change was noticed by developer 'Lorenzo' who posted the insight on X (via 9to5Mac). "Apple designed the new Siri with the iPhone 18 Pro/Max in mind, as with the rumoured smaller Dynamic Island it's a perfect orb," he wrote. "This explains why it's not a pill in iPadOS and macOS." If you buy a new iPhone 18 Pro/Max this year, it's likely we'll see that smaller hardware feature that enables the oval shaped Siri pop out. Due to the physical limitations it's likely to remain a pill shape on the iPhone 17 range, as Apple showcased during WWDC. The iPhone 18 Pro models are also expected to offer uniform rear glass and aluminium colours and some new colours this time around. The Dark Cherry model appears like it'll be the standout offering this time around.

Apple's Siri AI beta in iOS 27 has dropped a major design clue about the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro. The AI assistant appears as a spherical orb on iPad and Mac, but takes an unusual oval shape on current iPhones—a discrepancy that strongly suggests Apple is preparing for a significantly smaller Dynamic Island on its next flagship phones.
Apple's iOS 27 beta has inadvertently confirmed what many have suspected: the iPhone 18 Pro is getting a smaller Dynamic Island. The evidence comes from an unusual design choice in Siri AI, which appears differently across Apple devices in ways that suggest hardware design changes are coming this fall.
Users testing the iOS 27 beta have noticed that Siri AI takes on distinct shapes depending on the device. On current iPhone models, the AI assistant displays as an elongated oval—essentially a pill shape that stretches across the width of the existing Dynamic Island. However, on iPad and Mac, Siri AI appears as a classic spherical orb, matching what appears to be Apple's intended design vision

Developer Lorenzo first spotted this discrepancy and shared his insights on X, noting that "Apple designed the new Siri with the iPhone 18 Pro/Max in mind, as with the rumoured smaller Dynamic Island it's a perfect orb." This explains why the Siri AI design isn't a pill shape in iPadOS and macOS

. Pre-launch speculation suggests the Dynamic Island cutout, which houses the selfie camera and Face ID sensors, could shrink by approximately 35% compared to last year's models. The design logic is straightforward: Apple wants the new Siri AI design to integrate seamlessly with the full width of the Dynamic Island. On current iPhones with larger cutouts, maintaining that integration requires stretching Siri into an oval. But once the smaller Dynamic Island arrives with the iPhone 18 Pro, the spherical Siri AI shape will finally appear as Apple originally intended across all devices.

This iPhone 18 Pro design change represents more than just aesthetic refinement. A smaller Dynamic Island means more usable screen real estate without sacrificing the Face ID technology that Apple has committed to since the iPhone X. While the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to maintain many design elements from the iPhone 17 Pro—including the full-width camera plateau and aluminum unibody—this reduction in the front-facing sensor array demonstrates Apple's continued work on miniaturizing critical components.
For those still using iPhone 17 range devices, the oval-shaped Siri AI will likely remain due to physical limitations of the larger Dynamic Island. Beta software testing has already revealed these constraints, as Apple showcased during WWDC. Beyond the smaller Dynamic Island, the iPhone 18 Pro models are also rumored to feature uniform rear glass and aluminum colors, with a Dark Cherry model expected to be the standout offering

.The fact that Apple is designing software around unreleased hardware speaks to the company's integrated approach to product development. Siri AI's spherical shape on existing devices essentially serves as a preview of what iPhone 18 Pro buyers will experience this fall—a more cohesive visual experience where software and hardware align perfectly across the entire Apple ecosystem.
