AI Scribes Reduce Doctor Paperwork but Trigger Accuracy and Equity Concerns in Healthcare

Hospitals are rapidly adopting AI scribes to eliminate pajama time—the hours doctors spend on patient notes after work. But University of Michigan researchers warn these AI-powered clinical note-taking tools introduce serious risks: hallucinations from mismatched training data, performance drift over time, and accuracy problems with non-American accents. The machine-generated clinical notes now form the foundation for billing, research, and clinical decisions.
