Lies of P studio is hiring an 'AI Creator' for future projects but says the role will not be 'directly involved' in the development of the sequel
The successful applicant will use AI tools like Midjourney and Stable Diffusion for "asset creation," post-processing, and training AI models for use in game library creation. The sequel to Pinocchio soulslike Lies of P that was announced in 2023 is now in "full production," as revealed by the latest earnings results posted by developer Neowiz. That's great news if you're a fan of the game, but behind-the-scenes moves at the studio have some of those fans a little less than happy about the overall state of things. The problem is the studio's seemingly enthusiastic embrace of generative AI for game development. Oh, that's the creators of Lies of P specifically hiring an AI "artist" to work on their next game ๐ -- @dandyfloss.bsky.social ( @dandyfloss.bsky.social.bsky.social) 2026-05-13T01:25:27.094Z While some studios disavow gen AI completely, or use it for early-stage concepting and placeholders, a Neowiz job listing (Google translated) for an "AI Creator," spotted by Captain Dandyfloss on Bluesky, is explicit about using "generative AI technology to maximize the efficiency of the art production process and innovate the visual quality of games." As noted in the job listing, specific responsibilities of the role will include: * Creation of character/background concept drafts and expansion of variations using Stable Diffusion, Midjourney, etc. * AI-based texturing, modeling assistance using image-to-3D technology, and asset creation * Integrating AI tools into existing art workflows to reduce production time and build an efficient AI art pipeline * Training unique AI models and building libraries optimized for the project's art style using LoRA, ControlNet, etc. * Post-processing (In-painting/Out-painting) and high-resolution upscaling of AI products to a level applicable to actual games * Identifying the latest generative AI trends and providing AI tool usage guides for in-house artists The listing says Neowiz is "developing games of various genres and platforms to bring new surprises and enjoyment that have never existed before," and in a statement provided to PC Gamer, the studio clarified that the AI Creator will not be "directly involved" in the development of the Lies of P sequel. ""The job posting in question is not a role that will be directly involved in the production of the Lies of P sequel. Instead, they will reside within an independent Art R&D team at ROUND8," Neowiz said. "GenAI tools are only used in preliminary stage work to improve efficiency of repetitive, foundational tasks. "AI-generated visuals function strictly as internal reference material during pre-production, a method for establishing visual direction before formal production begins. The intent is to build a proprietary visual library trained exclusively on assets for which Neowiz and ROUND8 hold full legal rights. All final assets for the upcoming game will be created by experienced artists." ROUND8 is the internal studio at Neowiz that developed Lies of P. It is what it is, as the doomed and the damned like to say, and while I don't personally subscribe to the idea that AI is inevitable in whatever form you want to define "AI" for the argument of the moment, it is at the very least seeping through the cracks. What's notable about this job listing in particular is the way there's no preemptive apology or promised limitations on its use: Neowiz is clearly all-in on incorporating generative AI in its development process, despite how persistently unpopular it is with a large slice of the gaming audience. Even Peter Molyneux and Randy Pitchford, two of the industry's most, uh, ebullient guys, have been relatively cautious about their approach to AI in public. Naturally, there is disappointment and backlash: genuinely how are these people still not realizing that basically every single game that has been discovered to use/promote AI has immediately tanked in interest across the board. I can't think of a single game that has done well after the Ai was discovered. -- @goofygoober.ca ( @goofygoober.ca.bsky.social) 2026-05-13T01:25:26.960Z I feel so disappointed after finding out the studio behind Lies of P gonna hire AI artists for their sequel -- @rashuu.bsky.social ( @rashuu.bsky.social.bsky.social) 2026-05-13T01:25:27.213Z Never felt this angry with a game developers, Im so sad... with such a beautiful game like Lies of P, the sequel will be an AI slop, i will not believe them anymore if they say there won't be AI in the developing of art and story -- @nightsbo.bsky.social ( @nightsbo.bsky.social.bsky.social) 2026-05-13T01:25:27.313Z once again, it doesn't matter how little or minor your usage of AI is, I will not buy your game no matter what, even if I really like your work like Lies of P you can eat the deepest darkest part of my ass bye -- @pixelscum.bsky.social ( @pixelscum.bsky.social.bsky.social) 2026-05-13T01:25:27.491Z Some of that reaction, I think, arises from the perception of Lies of P as a sort of underdog, out-of-nowhere game that took a bizarre concept -- "Pinocchiosouls," as PC Gamer's Lauren Morton put it in 2022 -- and turned it into an exciting, memorable experience with, importantly, a genuinely beautiful visual style. Neowiz itself is no upstart, though: The company reported Q1 2026 revenues of 101.4 billion Korean won, which works out to roughly $68 million -- not a full-on games industry behemoth, but nothing to sneeze at either for a three-month period. Of course, the actual game industry behemoths are also becoming increasingly enthusiastic about AI: Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Hideaki Nishino recently said that AI will enable "gaming experiences like never before," while Google Cloud global director for games Jack Buser believes the advent of AI will straight-up save the industry. Ironically, Xbox chief Asha Sharma, who came into the role after serving as president of Microsoft's CoreAI Products division, promised to avoid "soulless AI slop" and ended development of Copilot AI on Xbox -- although she's also loaded up Xbox leadership with AI executives, so I'm still waiting to make the call on that one.

Lies of P Studio Round8 is Hiring an "AI Creator" to use GenAI Tech to Speed Up Art Production
As we all anxiously wait for Lies of P developer Round8 Studio to finish working on the upcoming sequel to its stellar 2023 action game now that the game's major DLC expansion is out, a job listing for Round8 has been spotted online that has fans concerned for the sequel. Round8 Studio is hiring for what it is calling an "AI Creator," a person whose job it'll be to "leverage generative AI technology to maximize the efficiency of the art production process and innovate the visual quality of games." Generative AI (GenAI) tech in game development is a sore spot no matter where you bring it up, but it's particularly sore when it comes to the tech used in art or narrative development. The idea that Larian Studios was using GenAI to create concept art was enough to create the backlash that followed its reveal of the next Divinity game. Which, it seems, is exactly what Round8 Studio is looking for someone to do, as the responsibilities list "creation of character/background concept drafts" and "AI-based tecturing, modeling assistance using image-to-3D technology, and asset creation." "We are looking for valuable colleagues who will combine the creativity of artists with the productivity of AI to build Round8 Studio's unrivalled art pipeline together," the listing reads. Though the listing specifies the creation of concept art, the idea that this person will be involved in the development of the art pipeline as also stated in the listing suggests that GenAI tech will be weaved into the entire development of art assets for Round8 Studio's games. It also follows that, if Round8 believes GenAI tech is speeding up its concept art production, why would it only choose to speed up concept art and not everything else? Unless Round8 specifies otherwise, it's likely that everything we see for the Lies of P sequel, whenever Round8 is ready to unveil it, will have been touched by GenAI at some, if not multiple points of the process of getting it to its final public-facing version. It'll be interesting to see if this is cause for any notable backlash against Round 8 Studio. Larian, as previously mentioned, faced major backlash for its mention of GenAI use, and while scores of players and developers are against GenAI, there's been no evidence indicating that games made with GenAI in areas like art or even voice-over don't do as well commercially because of it. Even on the critical side, games that we know used GenAI tools at some point in the development are still universally praised, with last year's GOTY Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 being the ultimate example. It's doubtful then that anyone will bother to remember or care about Round8 using GenAI by the time Lies of P 2 is out. That doesn't mean GenAI in its current form should or shouldn't be used; it just means that so far, a large number of players don't care enough to vote with their wallet against games that use it.

GRTV News - Lies of P sequel enters full-scale development, developer looking for new hire to generate AI art
"Hello there, welcome back to GRTV News, I'm Alex, as always, going through the afternoons, latest and greatest when it comes to gaming, technology, entertainment, whatever you like and indeed whatever you love, we always have it here for you at GRTV News and in the YG Game Reactor Network as a whole, so if you like what you see and you want to see more, be sure to check out Game Reactor wherever you get it from for more gaming reviews, gaming previews, movie reviews, series reviews, exclusives, interviews, world news, sports news and of course so much more. Without further ado today, we're talking YSFP, also I think I said YD Game Reactor Network, Yder Game Reactor Network, come on Alex. Anyway, a bit of a good news, a bit of a bad news maybe for people looking forward to the lives of P-SQL, is it seems that the developer Round8 Studio is looking for someone to generate AI art for it, but at the same time, publisher Neowiz has confirmed that the sequel is now in full scale development." "So, what does that mean? Well, it's pretty obvious what the AI art person thingy means, they're looking for a way to speed up the processing or the generation of art instead of using traditional concept artists, they're getting someone in who's familiar with stable diffusion, mid-journey and all those sorts of programs in order to create art and feed it into the concurrent existing pipeline. Gee, if only they had an entire game that they'd already made and released with a massive expansion that they could base their work off of as well. It's just not heard of people. Jokes aside, I think this is going to prove to be quite a controversial thing because while we do see AI art, AI assets used in things like Crimson Desert and Claire Obscure Expedition 33, those are just two examples of quite big games that have used that sort of technology, it always does drum up quite a lot of controversy and people don't want to see AI art in their finished products." "I think people are more open, potentially, considering the reception of Claire Obscure and Crimson Desert and the sales figures that those games got, I do think people are more open to the idea of AI having been used at some point in creation in the process to sort of as a consultant almost, I guess, when you're creating things like digital art. Personally, I don't love it in any aspect of game development, but I think that consumers as a whole are a bit more willing to accept that aspect of it. On the other side, as I say, the more positive side, Neowiz has confirmed that the game has passed its prototype phase and it's moved on to full-scale development. This is also known as the production phase, I think, in more Western audiences, but in any case, it basically means that the game is now being worked on fully, being created fully. They've probably got a vertical slice that they're creating at the minute as well to show off to people, or maybe they've done that already considering it's already past prototyping. But either way, Lives of P2 will still need some time in the oven, I think. The game entering production probably means that it's got a few years at least left before we see it come out. But then again, if you're speeding up things with AI, maybe that won't be the case and we'll see it sometime a bit sooner." "On the other side, and just while I'm talking as well about Green News, we also saw that developer ShiftUp is saying that it's going to be publishing Stellar Blade 2 entirely on its own. It won't be relying on Sony like it did for the first game, which means that we probably won't see console exclusivity there, which is exciting for people because the Gooners will win again when Stellar Blade 2 comes out, and I think Stellar Blade 2 is actually meant to be coming out pretty sharp, actually. But yeah, let me know, does this make you overall less or more excited for Lives of P? What do you think about people hiring AI creators for their studios and games? I guess it means that AI kind of isn't taking your job away if you can get hired for prompting mid-journey? I don't know."

Neowiz's Round8 Studio is hiring an AI Creator to use generative AI tools like Midjourney and Stable Diffusion for asset creation and concept art. While the studio says the role won't directly involve the Lies of P sequel, the job listing reveals plans to integrate AI throughout the art production pipeline, drawing backlash from the gaming community concerned about artistic integrity.

Neowiz has confirmed that the Lies of P sequel has entered full production, but a controversial job listing from developer Round8 Studio has overshadowed this milestone. The Lies of P studio is hiring an AI Creator whose role centers on using generative AI technology to maximize efficiency in the art production process
1
. The position explicitly requires expertise with tools like Midjourney and Stable Diffusion for creating character and background concept drafts, AI-based texturing, and asset creation2
.The job listing reveals Round8 Studio's ambitions extend far beyond simple experimentation. Responsibilities for hiring an AI Creator include training unique AI models using LoRA and ControlNet, building libraries optimized for the project's art style, and integrating AI tools into existing workflows to speed up art production
1
. The position also involves post-processing work through in-painting and out-painting techniques, high-resolution upscaling of AI products, and providing AI tool usage guides for in-house artists. This comprehensive approach suggests the use of AI in game development will permeate the entire art production pipeline at Round8 Studio, raising questions about how extensively these tools will shape future projects2
.In response to mounting concerns, Neowiz clarified that the AI Creator position will reside within an independent Art R&D team at Round8 Studio and will not be directly involved in the Lies of P sequel production. The company stated that AI-generated visuals function strictly as internal reference material during pre-production, used to establish visual direction before formal production begins

. Neowiz emphasized that all final assets for the upcoming game will be created by experienced artists, and the intent is to build a proprietary visual library trained exclusively on assets for which Neowiz and Round8 hold full legal rights. However, the distinction between R&D work and actual game development may not satisfy critics concerned about artistic integrity.Related Stories
The announcement has triggered significant backlash from the gaming community, with players expressing disappointment and anger on social media platforms. One user noted that "basically every single game that has been discovered to use/promote AI has immediately tanked in interest across the board," while others declared they would boycott the sequel regardless of how minimal the AI usage might be
1
. The controversy mirrors recent incidents involving other studios, such as Larian Studios facing criticism for using generative AI to generate AI art for concept work on its next Divinity game2
. What makes this situation particularly notable is Neowiz's unapologetic approachโthere's no preemptive apology or promised limitations, suggesting the company is fully committed to incorporating generative AI despite its unpopularity with a significant portion of the gaming audience1
.Despite vocal opposition, evidence suggests that consumer purchasing behavior may not align with stated objections to AI usage. Games known to have used generative AI tools, including last year's Game of the Year winner Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, have received universal praise and strong sales figures
2
. This disconnect raises questions about whether players will remember or care about Round8 Studio's use of AI by the time the Lies of P sequel releases3
. Industry observers note that consumers may be more accepting of AI as a consultative tool in the creative process rather than as a replacement for human artists. The coming months will reveal whether this controversy affects pre-release interest or if commercial success ultimately validates Neowiz's strategy to speed up art production through technological integration.Summarized by
